Incorrect traffic pattern logic?

Asking if others have noticed the same thing.

“Flew” into KSEA from the north today, VFR. Runways 34R, 34C, and 34L were all in use. I was told to enter a left downwind for 34R. That has me flying base across two active approaches.

Did another leg to KPSC (Tri-Cities, WA). Came in from the east. Cleared left traffic, 21R. Again, crossing another runway threshold. As I flew over the center of the airport, I saw, plain as day, the pattern wheel (a circle with L’s or backwards L’s coming out that shows an approaching pilot whether a runway has right or left closed traffic). Sure enough, the pattern wheel showed right closed traffic for 21R.

These aren’t the only times I’ve thought the pattern entry was flat wrong, but two solid examples that are fresh.

I searched for others making this observation, and didn’t see anything. What I have seen are people struggling with the pattern entry lesson in MSFS. The instructor apparently says to go left, but if you go left, you don’t hit the markers. May not be related, but seems like they could be.

Flew today, for the first time, into KDFW. (That’s quite an airport for those that haven’t been.) Same thing: crossing 36L on base to land on 36R with aircraft coming and going like crazy. Had to go around twice.

IFR Departure was via SID Jacky7 from 13L - a departure that takes you out on a 270 degree track - which in this case cut across every active runway at KDFW. Doesn’t make any sense to me at all.

So - without knowing any better, or about real life at DFW - I’d have to agree that the logic seems, well, odd at best.

Yeah, lots of bugs with ATC as Asobo said yesterday. Report it via Zendesk though. They need real examples. Some are pilots there now but they are still new so it would be best if we can give them examples they can understand easily.

Yeah, people have to “hit” the markers. Well, kind off. The markers are high so you want to be below them and they don’t need to be passed very close to. At least last time I tried it.

Thanks. Didn’t see the Asobo webcast and didn’t know. Filed the ticket.
