IndiaFoxtEcho F35 Lightning

All updates to MP have been delayed lately, MS have said that there will be no updates to MP products until 29th Dec even then only very few beause they are on CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS. hopefully some time in the new year they will be back up to speed and also back up to full bandwith but thats another issue for another topic.

Received the update today, F35 sounds awesome and raw again! The afterburner has the lower frequencies added (missing in last update) and my home theatre just rumbles! The plane feels alive again with some real muscle! - thanks IndiaFoxtEcho for all your hardwork and effort on this!

What happened with the nav lights? This is the latest marketplace update.

This aircraft was recently updated for the Xbox, and now we have most, if not all the extras that the PC users have. Man, am I happy! Thanks IndiaFoxtEcho for working so hard to improve the Xbox offering. This means a lot!

Version 1.1.9 of f-35 on the way with bug fixes, according to the developers.

Awesome jet, just bought it. How do I activate the VTOL system?

Also, the pitch and roll seem very slow. It seems sluggish compared to even older fighter jets and I can’t seem to exceed 6.5 Gs no matter what my speed.

Tips?

Edit: Just got into the F-35A and it pitches and rolls much faster… Nice! What’s the C variant for then?

C variant is for carrier use. I think in real life its meant to be quite sluggish and not overly capable. The F35 is a bit of a technological marvel but its not particularly highly regarded as a fighter jet. Depending on what you read a lot of people think the entire project was a waste of money. The B variant especially so.

Well, the A variant is my favourite at the moment as it can hit close to 8 Gs or just over. Far more nimble and agile than the B one which I think has been made for VTOL flight. How do you work VTOL btw? Out of the B and C, which one is more fun to fly?

I’m I’m Xbox btw.

Thing struggles to hit mach 1.7 at height but that’s fine :slightly_smiling_face:

Also, shouldn’t the HUD move around with the pilot’s helmet? It stays only in the centre as I move around. It’s supposed to remain visible as I turn my head… No?

Try manual, page 69 here. I think it’s current info! They changed some of the keybinds since I last flew it, but you should be able to follow through the setup for Xbox binds too:

Make sure you’re actually in the ‘B’!!

Thanks a plenty for that response!

Anyone here who can please show me how to do this on Xbox? After work, I just don’t have it in me to sit down and study a manual … If anyone well versed with the VTOL process/hovering, please let me know the steps!

Edit: any way to make the jet pitch and roll faster? For instance, you can turn FBW off in the F-16 or AFCS off in the F-14 to have complete control and pull insane Gs.

Any similar option in the F-35?

I made a short tutorial how to STOVL in the F-35B (the F-35A and F-35C variants can’t do vertical take offs).

Keep in mind that the aircraft’s weight needs to be below 40600 lbs or the STOVL mode will not engage.

I’m on PC so I can’t tell you the XBOX specifics, but this should get you in the ballpark.

EDIT: there was a little mistake in the video. You use the HOOK/STOVL button instead of the Hover button to transition from Normal Flight to Slow Flight. I’ve replaced the video above with the corrected version.

Thanks a lot! I figured it out though after digging up the manual online.

Say, how come the jet never hits it’s G limit? In the FCS menu for the F-35B it says 7G but it barely breaks past 6. In the F-35A’s FCS, it says 9Gs but it barely hits 8G! What is going on? This is kinda getting on me nerves.

Can you tell me why it says SAFE in the bottom right of the HUD? Also, I was expecting the HUD to follow around with the pilot turning his head. Why is it visible only out front?

Can’t speak to the G limits, I don’t know. The SAFE indication is for the weapons systems. It switches to “ARM” when you flip the Master Arm switch below the screen controls on the center console. Of course the weapons don’t work.

As for the HUD: by default the IndiaFoxtEcho F-35 is set to boresight mode and acts as if the aicrraft has a regular HUD.

You can change that by pressing MENU on the panoramic display (top right) and then pressing “HMD”. This will change the display mode to “HMD Off Boresight”. That will keep the HUD display in front of you, but show a secondary Helmet Mounted Display when you look away from the HUD:

Brilliant, thank you so much! It’s looking killer. What’s the most Gs you’ve pulled in this thing? The A variant.

What, the one I linked to you?

Lol… I guess! It was a crazy day… Tiring and lost track of a few things

Listen, are the F-35s sluggish and slow IRL? They never seem to be able to pull enough Gs and struggle to hit even Mach 1.7 at height.

Nowhere as exciting as the Falcon, Tomcat, Felon, Fulcrum or Griffin, e.g. apart from the VTOL thing. Can be fun though… Devs have put in a lot of work clearly.

Does the game freeze for a few seconds for you Xbox guys right before clicking on “fly” on the world map? Only the F-35s do this.

Well the F-35 isn’t really designed as an interceptor / dog fighter but I don’t know much about it.

Ahan. Wish it were faster and more agile. Fun though.

Performance

  • Maximum speed: Mach 1.6 at altitude
  • Service ceiling: 50,000 ft (15,000 m)
  • g limits: +9.0

Note that crewed fighters aren’t built for pulling more than about 9 Gs because it will kill the pilot.

First, yes, there is a slight freeze when loading the F-35 on my Xbox. In the patch notes they do say loading will take longer with the new high res liveries. When you select a plane and livery, the first place it loads is on your Home Screen so your selected plane shows up in the background hangar. So that, “Freeze” happens first, before you are taken into the loading screen, because your plane at least partially loads in the Home Screen.

As for its flight performance, the other 6th gen American jet, the F-22 can fly circles around it.

If you really want to appreciate the advancements, compare the F-35 to previous generation VTOLs. Like the Hawker Harrier.

It is made to supercruise. Flying Mach 1+ without afterburners. And this greatly extends the range while aiding in its stealthiness.

And finally, it is made to identify and eliminate threats before those threats are within weapons range. The goal is to get kills before the enemy even knows you are there.

These days, maneuverability is quite overrated. Every plane needs to slow down to be its most maneuverable. The F-22’s thrust vectoring looks amazing in air shows but it really SLOWS the plane down and leaves it vulnerable to attacks as it works to pick up speed again after a tight turn. If the F-22 needs to use thrust vectoring in a dogfight, it better get the kill immediately. Otherwise it is vulnerable. As advanced as it is, that loss of speed makes it vulnerable to even last generation jets.

Like a car, if you want to turn the F-35 quickly, you need to take your foot off the gas! Tactics in a modern F-35 if it is within visual range of an enemy is to fly fairly straight! Keep its speed up. Launch a missile, and fly right by!

Dogfights make great movies but they really are rare IRL with these 6th generation jets.
