I have Intel Core Ultra 9 + RTX 5080 16GB VRAM + 64 GB RAM and I use dynamic settings locked at 50 fps and practically everything on High.
In the same broad category as me. I have an AMD 9800X3D + RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB + 64GB DDR6-6400 RAM. I use Dynamic Settings and lock my system at 30fps in the sim + 2X frame generation and maintain 60fps everywhere. My general settings are 1440p, TAA, TLOD/OLOD both at 200, most settings on High, Volumetric Clouds on Ultra, Fauna turned off unless I’m doing bush flying. I don’t need to see bears walking along taxiways at KSEA (which I have actually seen before I turned Fauna off, lol).
When I’ve checked with DevMode, I’ve never seen Dynamic Settings actually reduce my TLOD/OLOD by more than .7 or .8 for a second or two, usually as objects are loading in or when GSX is doing GSX things.
Thank you very much for your answers! I play in 4k without Dynamic Settings activated, which certainly makes a difference.
I will test Dynamic Settings later at KDFW. I tried this feature a few months ago and, for my taste, it reduced the visual quality of the simulator too much. The visibility was noticeably reduced. Mountains in particular were often very blurry in the distance. But perhaps the Dynamic Settings have improved in the last few months and are less aggressive now. In any case, I am no longer surprised by our different experiences with performance at KDFW. My settings for the scenery and 4K are probably just a little too much to run optimally.
I forgot to mention that I run the sim in 2.5K resolution and 2x Nvidia frame generation. And if you think it’s too blurry you can lower the fps target. Actually I’ve been using this dynamic setting since the beginning of this week - I hated it before. But I’ve tried it again and it made the sim much smoother for me. Also during my recent flight I reduced the dynamic settings target to 30 fps (an inspiration from @DrVenkman3876 ‘s answer) and that eliminated blurry terrain for me while still keeping it smooth.
I have now also set the FPS limit to 30 (with frame generation I get 60) and activated the dynamic settings. My start in KDFW towards Harlingen was promising, and I couldn’t detect any noticeable visual limitations during the first test. I will leave the dynamic settings activated and continue testing over the next few days. Thank you for the helpful tip!
