Initial Release: Grumman Goose G21A Redux II

That absolutely is not standard and would be an after market modification. TBH I’ve not come across that. Regardless, this Goose does not have a water rudder. Part of the attraction of these old birds is learning about them and then how to fly then properly :duck::small_airplane:

Oh, always Gooses, never Geese :duck::duck::duck:

Yes an unfortunate issue cause by me not updating the code to use their new system. All legacy code brakes with each update which is why I spent considerable time converting to the new ModelBehaviours. Unfortunately I had not gotten to the starters and now you need to use the mouse wheel to activate.
Not sure I’ll get another hotfix out before Xmas in afraid.

This Goose MUST remain freeware as it uses MS objects. However can I suggest you donate to a children’s or veterans charity instead?

We are looking at doing a payware Goose.

I have about 400 hours across a couple versions of Goose in X-plane (Ddenns release) but yeah, the only Goose I have seen in real life (Hillsboro, OR) didn’t have one either. Ddenns versions did have a water rudder, but I rarely used it as I had a HOTAS with two thrust levers. Still really excited about your release, so don’t get me wrong.

Float planes/Sea planes are the reason I got interested in flying, the Goose and Canadair CL-215.

Thx for a new boat for MSFS.

Two things I noticed:

It seems the left engine does not provide electrical power to the system. When I turn off the right engine, the battery runs flat. I noticed generator lamps and switches in the overhead, but they do not seem to do anything?

I understand the Goose has no water rudder and I expected to turn the plane with differential thrust. But even in a low wind condition, this was not possible. Even with full thrust on one prop and reverse thrust on the other the plane did not turn.

Really enjoying the Goose.
Query re the pontoon switches. I finally got a cockpit view set up where I could get a good look at them.
There are 3 switches in a row.
What is the middle one for??

Yes, known Asobo issue and it’s the same reason why I had to set the tailwheel as steerable. I’m happy to make that one concession for convenience.

She does turn EVER SO GENTLY at full single engine and opposite rudder. We may look at this in a future update, but not right now.

They originally all triggered together but something broke and they were a low priority for Initial Early Preview.

@OzWookiee

Shes fantastic . The Goose is a unique craft, well represented in this instance
Interested to see what else you squeeze out of it

Btw, glad Miss Monroe could grace the co pilot seat

Same issue, can’t retract gear with a C&D start, I’ve flicked every switch I could find

I’ve already spent more time and energy typing here than I did decompressing that file, my friends. Let people do what works for them.

Are the engines actually 450 HP? looking in the engines.cfg file kind of looks like they are modeled after the experimental 600HP Wasp engines…?

On a side note, not sure if it was noted already but when I hide the pilot yoke I can’t find the click point to un-hide it.

Enjoying the plane - thanks

It’s fine, just not immediately intuitive. I didn’t mean it as a complaint, just a response to someone having trouble starting his up.

thanks again!

I’m going to call this a great preview of something totally awesome to come. I’ll wait patiently for the final while checking back daily for the latest buzz. Nice work!

Just. Freakin. Awesome. Thank you so much, best Xmas gift this year for me!

FWIW, I’m seeing 5 to 8 more FPS with the Goose than I see with the Xcub or TBM, so that’s a bonus too.

Thanks so much for this release! I’ve been craving more amphibious planes. Tried it out in VR and it was a great feeling  I really hope the base game adds water effects soon as looking out the window and seeing that on the wings would be so satisfying.
The only thing I’d really love to be updated before I use this beauty all the time is adding the water sounds when you land like the base Icon has.
Keep up the great work!

Hey @Zobleb, click the plaques just under the HSI to hide/show the yoke. Yoke column for the co-pilot show/hide.

Just checked with our Flight Engineer and she slipped me the 600’s without telling me so looks like we all got a little extra juice this Christmas!

Yes we’ll be reviewing all of that when we look at the audio.
