IRIS Simulations Pilatus PC-21 Release Build

I like this addon. It’s one of the aircraft I was waiting for, but I have to delete it for now.

After installing it, I am no longer able to access my content manager. I also now have to use the Windows Task Manager to force MSFS to shut down - MSFS won’t shut down and exit cleanly anymore.

I use the G2 and I don’t have any stretched panels at all and I can read everything with no issue…

It was my issue, I fixed it the plane is awesome in VR.

I love the comments about not knowing the developer and seeing if they establish a track record of fixing stuff. Iris Simulations has been around since 2005, and pre-Iris the founder ran DSB Design, which dates back to at least FS2002.

It was pretty obvious from the reports that the issues wasn’t endemic to the plane and was only affecting some users… Glad Iris got it sorted out quickly!

Agreeing with Editer here and asking that people give developers more than a few hours before making statements that they are or might be malicious/bad/untrustworthy, etc. As Editer pointed out, IRIS is no newcomer to flight sim development. The day 1 patch to solve the issue with the controls should hopefully alleviate and future concern about their responsiveness. They’ve always been a solid dev. When in doubt, just ask around. Plenty of us (:older_adult:  ) have been in this hobby for decades and can speak to these companies. Happy flying in the PC-21!

I bought the plane yesterday after the first update was live on the Iris shop. After the first flights I have to say, it looks great and handles really well. I have not finished the manual yet, but so far the FMS seems to have very limited functionality, same with the navigation display on the left MFD. On the Iris Discord the dev acknowledged that they need to rework their native PC-21 HUD. At the moment the F-18 HUD is used by default, but you can switch between both.
For me the Iris PC-21 is a wonderful fast tourer and 100% usable in the current state. But I would be happy to see improvements to the HUD, the nav display and the FMS.

Do you have a link to their Discord? I have checked their site and their Facebook and have searched on Discord but can’t seem to find it.

I had a hard time finding the Discord link as well … Hope this one works: IRIS Simulations

Anyone know how to switch on LOC 1 for ILS? I can do an RNAV approach in this plane, but not ILS.

This thing has a cool autopilot, its fun flying by hand, but neat to see the autopilot too.

Trim Aid Device
Hi,
can anybody explain, how to use the Trim Aid Device ? I am used to trim aircraft for a stable flight, i.e. a certain climb or descend rate etc… How can I trim the PC-21 ? I am clueless.
Thank you
Bruno

I uninstalled the file and downloaded it again. After the new install everything is back in order and working.

Beautiful plane.

Not on my PC atm, but I think the manual states the Trim Aid Device is inoperative, saying that if you want a similar effect, you can enable auto rudder in the sim.

For elevator trim, I use the normal key bindings, just like with any other plane.

Thank you for your reply. Yes; indeed; elevator trim by key presses is working. Basically I am using a Saitek Trim Wheel, which is old, but perfect workking on any other aircraft in MSFS. The IRIS AC is the first and only, where it does not work. IRIS quality has not changed much since FSX, P3D, XP11…
Much likely the PC21 will be sitting in the hangar in the future.
Thank you again, because I did not think to use the keyboard for elevator trimming.

Does the trim indicator on the left console move when you use the trim wheel? Trim wheels can either use an axis, or they send key events (like the Bravo Throttle trim wheel that I use).

After some more flights I have to say that I really like the PC-21. It is hard to go back to slower GA planes after cruising at 330 KIAS

Installed the plane last night and noted that when autopilot is engaged, the aircraft jitters up and down when at high speed. Hopefully the dev will tweak this out with a patch or two.

Also, what’s up with the black bar that shows up in the mirrors? Is there a way to get rid of the odd reflections that the mirrors show?

External sounds are good, but there is a detectable loop in them.

Other than these few things, she’s a keeper.

Just got this. Absolutely lovely plane. Really good fun. The slightly lower resolution textures, particularly noticeable in the cockpit, are a bit of a double edged sword. Yeah they don’t look the best but the upshot is performance does seem to be really good. Although having said that I am experiencing some pretty major stutters with it. I am on the SU11 beta though but I’m sure when things settle down this will be a great looking and performing addition to my hangar. The sounds do need to fine tuning too.

Its superb for flying around the Swiss alps in.

Treated myself to this one. Great aircraft, but not entirely happy with the sounds. I’m working on an Irish paint for it atm…

I thought the sounds were pretty good… I guess that just shows how subjective sounds can be. I’m no audiophile though…

Are we about to have another Kodiak rant? Second question: Does this aircraft even have CFD enabled? I assume so if the visualization can be enabled but not sure if I’ve ever seen them state they use it.
