Is it me? (ongoing server issues during peak times)

I had perfect performance last night and now this morning it’s terrible and scenery not loading

So is there anything else beside it is running for you to back your claim?
I do see over the last 3 days that I am able to run the sim during CET evening/night but not during the day.
A bunch of other people in this thread experiancing the same.

So would you be so kind and explain what you think is the reason for this?

Oh and btw here is a statement form MSFS Support:

As you stated, this is most likely cuased by issues on the server side and we are constantly investigating crashing logs we are automatically receiving from players.

Thank you, given this I would think your statement is as good as mine. Just a guess.
I appreciate your participation and respect your opinion.

Not sure what happened there, I deleted instead of editing it.

Yeah I’m in agreement with the issues that people are having.

I share your frustrations with the current situation, if your like me your trying to do everything to get it working but nothing is giving the expected results

Just a short update on steam user 2024 vs. 2020. Looks like the steam user prefer the 2020 experiance. Do not forget, this is a 4 year old game vs. a new release.

This is where I end up on a sunday morning at 8am local time after deleting the rolling cache, launching MSFS (the client created a Report-loading.toml file because it recognized slow load times), then trying to access the Jet Engine Certification and waiting a long time.

My current working theory is that it could be my ISP’s fault (Deutsche Telekom). see:

I was watching network traffic and the impression I got is that the client seems pretty robust during initial load, but if it encounters some problem streaming content, it likes to stall, and once it’s stalled, it rarely seems to recover (or, at least, it takes a long time to recover).

Okay, if the peering-fu between my ISP and Microsoft’s CDN (is the CDN part of Azure?) is weak, maybe circumventing that bottleneck might help. “Cloudflare WARP” promises to do that. It’s going to add an extra hop to the connection, but if neither the link between my ISP and Cloudflare nor the link between Cloudflare and Microsoft is bottlenecked, the net result might be faster and more reliable.

Stand by.

Seven minutes later: I deleted the rolling cache, the client took five minutes to load, it didn’t create a Report-loading.toml this time, every step on the way to the certification was much faster and the scenario itself loaded within a few seconds. I could exit the client properly instead of having to kill the process.

Could have been a fluke. [edit: it was, see my next post below] Let’s test without CF Warp once more. Delete rolling cache, disable CF Warp, fire up MSFS. The client takes significantly longer to load, it takes a long time of staring at loading screens to get to the Jet Engine Rating scenario, and instead of the Vision Jet, I get “Bandwidth too low”, AIRCRAFT_MODEL_NOT_FOUND and scenery that isn’t loading.

Just to be clear, I’m not a fan of Cloudflare, not at all. In my job I had to deal with their support (as a paying customer) and my experience was sub-par, I also have issues with their service from a privacy perspective (just too much of the net relies on them). But judging from this anecdotal evidence, MSFS appears to work better for me when I’m using their “pseudo-VPN”. And it appears to be free.

I’m not sure who to blame, Microsoft or my ISP (Deutsche Telekom). As a paying customer of both, I can be angry at both. I know that, at least historically, Deutsche Telekom liked to hold their customers hostage to get favorable peering arrangements. But I can also see the point that service providers like Microsoft need to shoulder part of the burden of maintaining the network infrastructure.

Well, I’ve got my workaround, I’m happy for now. I’ll use my privilege as OP and tag this as (my) solution.

My regards to @Senchay6131 for pointing out that CF Warp worked for him:

Glad to hear that the issue is resolved for you now.
Given the moderator merged my topic into this it is resolved also for me. wiered!
Not blameing you for this.

In case it is realy an telekom issue it will be over once and for all for me. I am not going to change my ISP to play this game.
I might see if I give CF Warp a try after the next patch arrived. Maybe it will be the solution for me as well. fingers crossed.
Still not sure if it will also solve the CTD isssues I was talking in my thread.
Anyhow I am not happy having to use another third party solution. Especially it isn’t a EU based company as it seems to me.
Especially considering there are other sims on the market who do not need such a workaround.
For xBox users this is even not an option as well. will see.

Oh, I didn’t think about that. I “unsolved” the thread.
Also, my experience with CF Warp has been spotty. At first, it worked like a charm, I could complete the Jet Engine Certification, but when I tried the ATPL, I saw the same problems with and without CF Warp.
I guess it was just a fluke after all.

I’m not going to change ISPs, get a 2nd ISP just for MSFS, or waste more time trying out other VPN providers.
Germany is an important market for flight simming.

Deutsche Telekom is the largest internet service provider (ISP) in Germany, holding a dominant position in the market. As of 2023, Telekom has a 39% market share of internet customers in Germany. This translates to approximately 21 million customers nationwide. Plus an unknown number of customers of resellers using Telekom infrastructure.

Make it work, Jörg!

(For people who wondered how to correctly pronounce his name: this ^ rhymes.)

Thx for the update and unsolveing the problem.

Given your experience with CF now and what you describe I might wait anyhow and see how the situation evolves with the announced patch.

I am totally with you on not changeing my ISP and your assesment of Telekom as a major player in the german market.

I tried CF warp too. It works better than without but still not good. Today without warp it’s not loading at all. With warp I get maximum of 20 mbit/s but mostly around 5-10.

For me it’s still the loading simulator. I think of all the time the game was running I have around 20% actual flying time

At he moment, Europe (Croatia) 1Gbps speed test, and sim is not loading world map in free flight with messages about low bandwith. Tried 3 times and it just CTD-s after som time trying.
Second weekend gone with unusable product…

UK based can’t even get to the menu screen without CTD.

As I’ve mentioned in other threads last 12 hours have been a sh** show for the sim for me

Not sure what player numbers they expected but if it’s impossible to start a flight for a large number of people two weeks after launch probably not many.
Almost looks like they had no hopes for their own game.

@D1rtyDuckUK

You might give CF Warp a try.

Just a few more thing I have done beside numeros others. Some of them I did already several times.

  • DDU and reinstalled the newest NVIDIA Driver
  • Complete reinstallation incl. manual removel everything I could find on the harddrive as well as in the regestry
  • DNS Flush
  • Delete online profile as suggested from support
  • get rid of all add-on only use vanilla
  • reduce grafic settings to the bare minimum
  • sometimes using a reliable 3rd party aircraft to reduce the load - only once and a while not do mess up with the vanilla approach
  • get rid of one of my 32GB RAM and only run the system with 32 GB
  • limit the number of cores down to 20
  • disable XMP and all other overclocking efforts
  • Increased the rolling cache to 100gb
  • cleaned the NVIDIA rolling cache
  • heck I was even close buying a new system to make sure it is not related.

Im playing on Xbox SX, loading times its takes ages, I have to go and make myself a coffee or go open a beer in the mean time. The real problem is when the app crashes, I have to get another beer, lol. If I become alcoholic Im gonna sue MS. just kidding.

I have an 850Mb/s internet speed, so my internet isn’t slow at all. After finally I get to go into a flight, (mission/free flight), seems is “okeish”, ground personal is terrible AF, builgings in the airports are like FS 1995 edition. But ok, nuances, Im gonna be flying right? go into the flight, and for the first missions/free flight, all seems ok, but then after a couple of hours of playing, all starts going to, you know where. FPS drops, loading times gets longer, textures super bad.

At this point I said to myself, time to take a rest. :facepalming:

One thing maybe someone can help me with, in the Network settings, there are some values, like cache and so. Has someone played with those, anyway to improve the experience?

I wish there was a toggle, “prefer local storage over streaming” so when on, it will let you download data for specific regions and keep it there. I don’t care allocating 100Gb+ for this as far as the experience gets better.

Cloud Flare Warp client only ensures that your system is using their DNS (1.1.1.1).
I’m using their DNS on router level and all dns requests goes to 1.1.1.1.
So that does not help…

Thank you for explaining this. I just try everthing I find in the forum that someone claimed worked for him.

I am just getting so frustrated that over the past view days so many people telling me it is me, my system, my ISP, me being unable to install this properly, me using to many add-ons in 2020, my Wifi (despite the fact I am using a cable to connect my system with the router).
And all I hear at this time from the same people it is running fine for them and this is the prove it is my fault. Most of the claim they not having any issues at all.

And all you hear from MS on this topic is, everything is running as expected.

Sorry sometimes it helps to get this out of your mind.

I am realy getting tiered of all of this.
Thank you MS/Asobo for creating the worst sim experiance of my life.

Mines been working fine as you know but it’s not anymore. No idea what’s changed apart from what ever was done last night when people couldn’t even connect to MSFS20.

I now know how you feel, it’s infuriating as there’s nothing we can do. I keep trying but I’m feeling that I’m wasting my time and getting annoyed about something I can’t resolve…

Why is it that I am constantly having bandwidth too low messages (except late at night) but when I use VPN, even from the same country, I get full bandwidth and normal loading times?
What is going on here?
