Just bought the PMDG 737 and I’m wondering if you have to buy the PMDG liveries from the marketplace or are there decent free alternatives on flightsim.io
If you are on the PC platform, all liveries are free of charge and you should never pay for any. You can find many in our Ops Center and can install every livery you find on other sites.
Unfortunately, it is currently not allowed to offer free downloads for the Xbox and Cloud platforms, and you are limited to the ones we offer on the marketplace. we hope this limitation for Xbox will be removed as soon as possible.

That is totally up to you. How often do you really look at the aircraft from the outside?
Do you fly a specific airline only?
In a 737 you do not see anything of the aircraft from the inside, so personally I would not bother with buying repaints. It’s not like a GA aircraft where at least some of the aircraft is visible from the front office.
Yes. I’m on Xbox and have bought a few livery packs. It makes it more realistic in my opinion. I know I wanted American, Delta, and United. As far as fictional liveries, I was never a fan of them. For any plane.

There are 3 (THREE) operators of the 737-600, well 4, but one is an ACMI or something.
And PMDG isnt the company that throws an Easyjet Livery on a boeing…
You should buy the 737-800, that is a VERY prominent aircraft in North America, the 600 just isnt.

OP is on PC. As TheFalconOne said there is no reason to buy them. Way, way back in previous sims repaints from McPhat Studios were worth buying in my opinion due to their quality.

Yeah I miss them.
I know im on Xbox and don’t have a selection choice, but I have bought probably 10 livery packs for various planes. Sure, some liveries I never use because I tend to stick with ones I’ve been on or see regularly. But I’m happy I got them & that they’re available.
