In FS2020 the Navigraph Nav Data add-on was needed so the sim would have up to date navaids when using real world flight planning tools. Is this needed anymore in 2024 or does the game keep itself up to date?
What were/are you using Navagraph for in 2020?
I figured Navigraph Nav Data was used to get the current AIRAC cycle into the sim. That way if you’re using real world (or semi real) planning tools you’ll get the correct data. Otherwise the in-game nav aids sometimes won’t match the real ones. It also has charts and such. I see a lot of this is now built into the EFB in 2024.
If you don’t have a Navigraph subscription now in 2020, you probably do not need one for 24. Both will have updated nav databases, albeit slightly different ones from Navigraph, so no worries for you today.
Nowhere near the amount that Jeppesen has. Furthermore LIDO charts are tailored for catagory C and D aircraft.
I don’t know if the base sim has charts, but that’s largely why I pay for Navigraph. Being able to pull up 10-9’s and approach charts for any airport in the EFB, standalone app, toolbar app, on my physical tablet, even embedded in some aircraft via the Working Title avionics is awesome.
I found this YouTube from Easyjet sim pilot helpful with answering your question. https://youtu.be/OhgtUDQjRy0?si=q2HUPdfPl6qkJB_g
It does have LIDO and FAA charts.
Oh nice, I didn’t realize it had FAA charts. I’m not keen on LIDO as I fly GA, but FAA charts are helpful since I fly in the US.
The sim is updated with the latest AIRAC cycle too. 2020 has been the same for quite some time.
I’m still hanging on to navigraph though as it’s just a more streamlined system IMO.
Yeah I just like Navigraph even if the sim has charts and such. You can add Navigraph to the game EFB too.
Same. LIDO charts are pretty useless to me, lol.
Navigraph also has updates for the Garmins in the game.
I guess my question was, Do you need it for the AIRAC? Seems like not but it’s got other good features so it’s worth keeping.
Need? No, but if you want the best navdata available I would go with Navigraph (Jeppesen).
Some aircraft do not have the ability to transfer plan from EFB to avionics (its broken).
Simbrief integration may still be used in, for example iniBuilds aircraft.
Issue is, in current state, the integration between new “planning” system with number of aircraft does not work.
I guess that depends on what you actually do with them. I find the charts in 2024 very good. They even show aircraft location on the chart. Lots of nav data and VOR data also available. There is an offline version of the EFB which is also very useful. Flight Planner
For me, I cancelled my Navigraph subscription. I may return, who knows.
Actually no, MSFS2024 has not latest AIRAC cycle. Till today there’s no way to update airacs, not even with a Navigraph subscription. We’re waiting for that.
Nor Garming 1000/3000 has integration with charts (Navigraph or Lido) so far.
We’re waiting fot that also.
The answer of OP question is IMHO no, because MSFS2024 LIDO charts are pretty good, are up to date, and integrated with universal EFB (oh yes, and all for free)(and yes, I am an heavly navigraph user).
In the near future we will see in depth integration of both charts in the sim.
Personally the real needs of a Navigraph subscription could be having simbfrief flight planner up to date, but it’s a small bonus considering 100 bucks for one year. Maybe a VATSIM atc could be assign to you a SID or STAR too new for simbrief but, again, you have always LIDO charts up to date.
I dunno, maybe navigraph should consider lowering subriction price, because LIDO has everything (planner, up to date charts, native sim integration) and it’s for free.
Navigraph doesn’t need to do anything. They’re going to remain very much relevant. I will continue to buy Navigraph subs for years to come. One of my best investments in this hobby especially as a VATSIM and PilotEdge user. It’s one of the very few subscription services I don’t mind paying for.
Flight Planner is unfortunately not very good, for example one needs to input average fuel consumption manually for a given aircraft model to get fuel allocations.
They have way too much to fix to be usable.
Personal Comments and Observations
The Navigation Data is still better in Jeppensen for other regions outside of CONUS. Arguably, there has been some parity in the last year between Navigraph and Lufthansa data within CONUS thanks to integration of the FAA Supplementary information. LIDO Charts now give an option that is platform agnostic and doesn’t pass additional costs to the end-user, thus achieving in some part what Charts+ was envisioned to do many years ago.
Jepp Charts are still more plentiful and have a wider spectrum of coverage. Navigraph also has a full blown Flight Planning and Weather Mapping integration in the Charts application, as well as full in-cockpit integration for specific Flight Management Systems (Beta in FS2024). And those plans are of course fully integrated into Simbrief for dispatch.
Hopefully that gives folks a better idea of what the options are like.
