From what I’m hearing, nVidia is throttling the 4090 supply until they can clear out their huge backlog of Ampere cards.
That’s part of the reason they ended up canceling the 4080 12Gb. It would have both added to the oversupply situation, and ended up being a laughing stock part that could easily have ended up filling up shelves that they could have been using to move 3080’s.
Or worse, could push people to buy up the RDNA2 stock. Remember, the 6800 XT is retailing for $550 right now, and would likely beat the 4080 12 GB in non-DLSS3.0 scenarios.
The absolute last thing they want to do is get people looking at their competitors, especially right now.
Welcome to global commerce. Scalpers are also speculating with chips and small components themselves, so the 40xx series is just like any other product. It´s not special at all. Even countries have now strategic reserves of components and even countries are acting as scalpers as well, so we all better face the situation and face it fast because there will be no sales until global production is restored to the status it was years ago and the high demand of electronic components is relaxed worldwide. This is a real fact and a severe risk for all companies, specially for the ones that need to provide critical services. The 40xx are just a luxury article that nobody really needs but there are much bigger problems out there that we will start to notice in our pockets sooner or later as well.
When you compare to the late 90s its the same thing allover again.
voodoo cards started coming out and made msfs 95 look at least less grainy and a little more fluid. planes looked like they were cut from paper or something. but there was a sense of 3d.
People would get newer and faster pentium pc’s and there was a better, bigger video card every year. msfs was always made like you needed just a little more power to make it really shine. So we went out and bought hardware. lots of it.
The point is that somewhere in the middle of all this there was a moment when everything was just perfect. Good add-on scenery, good planes for free, and a medium powered xxMB video card. The best moments were in the middle, and never once we had the perfect game station.
I could see that right now, once the 40xx card is there with a 13 gen intel, you will end up looking for the little shimmers, stutters and flaws. At least I would.
All I wanted was for stutters to be gone while being able to stay above 60 fps. I know there are many who say you don’t need more than 30 fps in a flight sim, but I have experienced that once you see and play this sim in 60 fps, you realize that 30 fps is just not ideal. 60 fps is sweet and perfect for me. Now with 4090 I don’t have to go through hundreds of tricks and changing settings everywhere in and out of the sim to get it to run smoothly.
I’m finally able to enjoy this sim stutter free with 60+ fps. I don’t care about DLSS or frame generation. I think it is still not in it’s mature state. TAA and DX12 is a dream right now with everything on Ultra and 4K.
You are right, this sim is like living a dream ever since I first saw it. And if you can make it better smoother and not worry about restrictions this is the best you can get.
I was trying to compare the situation back to over 20 yrs ago, and some things are cyclical / but as I said we all went out to get the 16 MB or 32MB voodoo 3dfx cards in the end. Human nature.
And I probably will update sooner or later too.
And I am definitely looking forward to watch some great new YT 4090 content!
Hmm, I saw this, but unless I see many reported issues like this, I wouldn’t stress it. So far there’s only been about 2 or 3 people reporting something like this and this one story is the only one becoming viral. This has been a story since the 3090 plugs.
Not saying it’s completely false, but you be amazed what people do to go viral.
Thankfully, I haven’t had this issue with my 4090 and have tested the temps in the plug.
The provider explanation (do not bend cable so that connectors do not come lose) is amazing. There´s no need of a new certification. You just export the risk to user in a 10 lines post on your website and everything is solved It´s not important at all why the connectors can come lose, however they already have a 90º angle connector fully developed, tested and certified in a matter of days. This is the magic of modern world business
And it would not stop there. You would probably have to think about what else would become the bottlenexk. Memory? Processor?
Just upgrading one aspect of a PC rarely gives the advantages anticipated. A machine needs to be in balance.
It’s the real deal because if you are in cpu limit any you have over like 35 FPS then enable dlss3.( under 35 for me the stutter is still there with dlss3)
Fps goes up to like 60 or 70 and the game feels smooth not stuttering.
So i don’t need to upgrade my cpu now.
Nice work nvidia
Could not agree more with the above. I don’t give a hoot what anyone’s FPS are from an outside view. In my opinion it means absolutely nothing and I never use tests like that to make a determination on hardware.
