Is the absence of wind gusts in live weather on purpose or is it a bug?

Have they disabled gusts in live weather because people didn’t like it or because it made landings too difficult for some people?

Or is it considered a bug? I haven’t heard Asobo about this issue, to me this seems an important feature. Even in a storm the plane just lands itself and you barely have to compensate like in real life. I hope they haven’t disabled it to make landings easy. At least make it an option.

I don’t believe it is a disabled function, my guess would be more of a “not developed correctly just yet” answer.

I was working at release though. So they removed it or it’s a bug they have not acknowledged.

As you say, they used to work.

The devs were once asked about this in a Q&A some time ago, to which they responded that gusts were present and all you had to do was fly near a mountain or increase the temperature. They got ‘gusts’ and ‘turbulence’ totally mixed up, so as to you whether they’re actually aware or even understand what we mean, I’m not sure.

I hope they bring them back, the weather environment is so static and not a challenge without those wind gusts and variations in wind.

Looks like there are gusts in live weather to me…
(yes, graph is compressed, it was for another purpose, does Real weather stop around 000Z ) - but it show the wind speed changing over time.

Interesting, we have users posting the same/similar graphs over in the BETA which show a total absence of wind gusts in live weather.

The chart certainly shows it, I wonder why I don’t notice much ( if any) effect on my airplanes though.

Maybe I should make another graph, that has a suitable Y scale, to show the exact wind speeds, and directions. The one above was designed to only show that they did not go FLAT, during the 0000Z period.

I like doing the Graphs, as they SHOW the point, rather than me just saying it.

A picture is worth 1000 words

Really, that was me ? and it does show wind changes. The Long thin lines are the “flyback” from 2400Z to 0000Z

Not you, another user.

Were they using SU8 Beta ?

All I claim is that with SU8 Beta , the live weather does not seem to be stopping around 000Z anymore, and it has wind gusts (at the location I was measuring from)

Of course, it would be possible to be at a location, where there were little or no wind Gusts

and , those Presets for a weather profile, and very high and non-typical !!!

Yes this is with SU8 BETA. A bunch of us have tested multiple locations reporting gusting winds, and so far the winds at each airport/location we’ve been tested have only been the steady wind with the gust factor missing completely. Although this is not new to SU8, this has been the case for a long time now, in my experience anyway (and many others).

Well all that user did was set the same wind conditions in that preset as reported in the METAR and as you can see the graphs for live weather show no variation or gusts in the wind, whereas when set manually it does.

The tests we’ve done can only lead us to the conclusion that wind gust factors are not simulated in Live weather.

I will not disagree with that. It would be informative, if when displaying the weather setup screen, when in Real Weather, if it displayed the actual injected live conditions.

Yes absolutely. This would be beneficial for a number of testing purposes and also for flight planning.

I actually display the winds (simvar values) on my Stream Deck, so I am just about to take a look.

Another hour wasted on MSFS that I will never get back !!

Ok, I can’t resist it, I have to say it:
“aaand loving it”

REAL WEATHER @ KJFK today

Wind speed is gusting but by only about 10% of what is reported in the Real world Internet metar.

CLEAR SKY PRESET ADJUSTED TO MATCH] REAL WORLD METAR

Looks 100% correct in SIM.

Conclusion, while I do not know what the metroBlue wind gust are that are actually being injected into the sim, or if they are being injected correctly, it looks like the Real World injected weather is only resulting in about 10% of the desired wind gusts .

There is a lot of unknows !!! and a lot to get sorted out Asobo !!!

Yes, I love this stuff as well – must be he Aviation/Software geek in me !!!

You could say “I am fully IMMERSED in the technical side” !!

Found CURRENT MeteoBlue weather info from their website

This is the same as the Metor – but we have no idea what is really being feed into MSFS, and if that data is incorrect, or if MSFS is not representing it correctly ?

but SOMETHING is not right !!

Of course, that info got from the MeteoBlue site, looking at Metars, might not be what is in their model being sent to MSFS ??

Interesting info. is this whilst running the BETA? If so, would you be kind enough to post it over there too (there is a thread in the SU8 beta section re wind gusts) just to keep it all in one place and also as Mods have a tendency to close threads discussing BETA stuff outside of the dedicated area. Cheers
