Is the Flight Model of the MSFS 2020 realistic or do we need a completly rewrite?

And now the sim vs game argument really turns in on itself…

I’m a licensed pilot and simmer. One big difference between real world flight and the fs2020 flight model is there is virtually no torque at all in the model. I fly single engine land, when the prop is on full power during take off and high powered slow flight (steep angles), there is a significant roll to the left. Pilots have to apply right rudder during the take off roll and high powered slow flight to overcome this. In real life, it is dangerous and happens a lot but nonexistent in the sim. The torque is the result of action and reaction, inertia, etc. Prop rotates to the right strongly, makes the plane roll to the left. Twin engines solve this with counter rotating props. If there is an engine failure on a twin, this effect is compounded because you also have off center thrust giving one wing more lift.

Wow! Are you and I flying the same sim? That totally not my experience.

That depends on the individual aircraft in MSFS. A few do require a significant amount of right rudder to counteract the various prop moments.

The majority of twins (including all 3 default twins in MSFS) don’t have counter rotating props.

Some third party craft do simulate this. The Piper Arrows come to mind. It’s not extreme, but still present.

Some of the default ones do, e.g. even the low power 152.
If you don’t apply rudder when flying close the stall, the ball is way off center, approximately a ball width.

Can’t confirm your findings.

I don’t agree.

Make sure that the flight model hasn’t changed to legacy on its own.
If it still is at modern, cycle it.

Did exactly that, didn’t help a thing …

It seems like everyone is flying a different sim…

It’s quite possible you have a defective joystick.

Pretty sure its not, for me it is like this for quite some time. I actually thought it was my old Logitech tur.d but seems not to be the case.

You see my vid in the other thread?

Yes I have, I don’t know why I have the GTA flight model.

Can you make a vid? Don’t have to, just curious.

Yeah I will when I’m back from flying.

Alright, have fun.

Not really, red-eye shift :joy:

Yikes, my father hates those!

I have compared MSFS flight model with XP11’s side by side. They are very comparable. I’d say you might wanna calibrate your peripherals.

I think the biggest difference between MSFS and XP11 in latter’s advantage is the amount of high fidelity airplanes. But that comes with a high price tag, someone told me to check out the Toliss 320 series, I did and was blown away by how expensive they are, two of them each costing more than the sim itself. I am sure they are really good, but boy do we have it good here with a32nx by FBW

Exactly. And it took XP a long time to get there too. For quite a while people swore by P3D/FSX because PMDG didn’t wanna port their airliners to XP. Then a few years later Toliss, FF and FJSim came along and the ecosystem became a little more complete.
