Another advantage is that you don’t fly on rails and scared to fly into any magenta zone on your WX radar.
What does that mean? They way you write it sounds like you cannot look outside and control the aircraft and its direction at all?
Try to turn on your imagination or at least google it. Dunno.
Look, I have seen so many “real simmers” who allegedly know so much about these games’ flight models using that term, it’s like a catchphrase that is being thrown by the crowd who know so much more than the rest of us to describe the flight model in MSFS. Probably because some youtuber who has lots of street cred in your group used it to describe it after the launch. So, I was just curious how you define it and do you just throw it around without much thought.
By flying on rails I mean it feels like there is no inertia, there is no apparent atmospheric effects affecting the ac and such.
Has nothing to do with peripherals, sensitivity is set to 50%. As I said I blamed my old Logitech for this, but with my new TM its no different. Also it does not explain the neutral stability on the roll axis and the lack of static stability in pitch.
The whole thing just feels so wrong, not just the sensitivity. Its way too direct, it has to be more fluid. Don’t have a better way of describing it. Its not pleasurable to fly at all. Even the FSX flight model has a more realistic feel.
Seems like I’m flying a different sim then most here, I have cycled to Legacy flight model and back, will give it another try.
I guess a problem we all share is the atmospheric model being too stable, turbulence in clouds seem to have disappeared. Turbulence and gusts only exists when flying close to obstructions with a high windspeed.
Check your bindings. Make sure the axis’ are actually bound to axis instead of buttons. The MSFS flight models is incredibly smooth and inert compared to FSX which is much more direct and linear in comparison. Your experience makes me think that either your hardware calibration is off or your binding is wrong.
I agree on these two points, but this doesn’t degrade the FDM to a joke IMO.
Hmm, the in-sim flight controls mimic the joystick position accurately and smoothly. When bound to a key binding instead of axis this would result in very binary controls I assume? Doesn’t seem to me its a hardware problem, I will check the axis and recycle the flight model…
Alright it seems to be fixed! As @PZL104 suggested I’ve switched to the legacy flight model and flew around a bit. Somehow the LEGACY flight model felt realistic (?!) and more fluid, after that switched back to MODERN which felt exactly the same as the LEGACY flight model, absolutely no change. It appears as the MODERN flight model became active when selecting LEGACY, weirdest thing ever. I knew about this workaround and have done exactly the same a couple of times before without result, something must have got stuck somehow. They should get rid of the LEGACY flight model, it causes nothing but problems.
I thought this might also have resulted in a weird bug which somehow almost nobody seem to observe where the autopilot steers opposite when giving roll input with AP engaged. But this weird behavior is still present…
What airplane were you flying? They effectively did get rid of the legacy model for all of the default airplanes (at least definitely for the unlocked ones as those are the only ones that can be checked by us). There is a new setting that locks the airplane to the modern flight model regardless of what you select in the flight model options screen. I checked all of the unlocked default airplanes and confirmed that they all have this setting implemented.
That would explain why you didn’t see a difference when you switched from legacy back to modern. It doesn’t explain what you apparently experienced before switching back and forth.
Its a mystery to me, I tested the C172 and TBM930, both previously were almost impossible to fly accurately, being extremely sensitive. Didn’t change any other settings. The difference is night and day.
I’m using my new TM Airbus edition, default settings (sensitivity 50%). There are no problems with it the in-sim controls have been mimicking the joystick position accurately and smoothly in accordance with sensitivity setting of course. I have tested different settings before but didn’t make it more flyable.
A lot of people were hoping to be able to convert FSX planes and use them in MSFS2020, which is why it was implemented in the first place. And a great deal of people do still do that.
I’ll have to remember this trick though. This whole “no inertia” thing seems to be a common complaint among some people. I wonder if they were all stuck in legacy somehow.
But it shouldn’t be an option in the main menu, it should be an option in the .cfg file or something. But apparently the LEGACY option doesn’t exist anymore for default planes. So it remains a mystery…
At the end of the day, the legacy flight model is just TERRIBLE. But people asked for it so they put it there… oh well.
Nobody asked for it. It was simply a MS requirement to make old FSX aircraft somewhat compatible.
Wow, switching to legacy and back did the trick. ![]()
This should probably be in a bug report or something. Or perhaps a PSA of some kind. “If the flight model feels wrong, switch to Legacy and back. See if it helps.”
For me is the MSFS 2020 for all those people who will fast fly and dosen’t follow accurate the real world procedures of a A320 etc. Which dosen’t need 100% accurate system which nearly reacts like in realife. and for people how me which will fly from a to b is the msfs 2020 more as good enought. And Guysw who want in a Simulator a 100% accurated system. I have to say it dosent exist. You have to make your pilote license and fly in realife.BY the way i havent ever flown in realife and i dosent have a pilot lisence.
Have you seen the Fenix Sim A320 being developed?
