Is the HP Reverb g2 worth buying?

I have a G1 and it has the same resolution as the G2 . G2 supposedly has better sweetspot and more vivid colors. From my research I am happy enough with my G1 that the G2 upgrade is not enough to justify $600. Just take it as a data point.

Howsthe night flying? I’m really a fan of the OLED screens of the O+.

Coming from an O+ too, night is not that bad I must say, I feared it to be worse. One thing I miss about the O+ is the general quality of the headset, as I already have my second Reverb G2 due to technical issues, which is broken again and needs to be repaired or replaced. I never had any issue in 3 years with the Samsung.

Came from the original Samsung-O, the G2 doesn’t have the pure black night look that the Odyssey has but the G2 also doesn’t have the Odyssey’s black blurring when you move your head (known OLED issue), and the G2 is, of course, higher resolution which makes it basically screendoor-free.

There’s one local on craigslist for $600. I may have to see if I can get him down to $500 to give it a try.

You’ll need a recent graphics card (2000 / 3000 series) to push all those G2 pixels. I’ve managed to find the right settings with a 1080ti for a smooth experience and readable cockpit (with some leaning in) and sorta sharp scenery with live traffic but many settings are turned down.

Therein lies the problem. I also have a 1080ti. I actually have 2. My thinking was to sell both of them and get a 3080; but man, people want a lot for one of those. I just got a 5800x to replace my 3600 CPU and I wanted to do the upgrade all at one time as it’s a water cooled rig.

I use quest 2 with 3080 & 10900k

I run at 1.5 super sample which is about
2600x2600 per eye

Clarity is great & sharp
Sweat spot seems very big too
( my prev headset was rift CV1 )
Fov would be my main concern on next gen of headsets -another 30 to 50% would be good

I wonder how I’d personally perceive the reverb G2

I’m also waiting for a 3080 card. Did you get your O+ running smoothly with your 1080ti? I’m running the G2 @ 60Hz with OXR Preview=ON, OXR=80%, MSFS =70% and most of the other MSFS graphics settings at Med/Low. FPS varies from 20-30 FPS so the reprojection feeds the G2 60 FPS. The G2 @ 60Hz was a little annoying at first during the bright daytime flights, less of an issue with dawn/dusk flights. I’m used to it now but when I get a better graphics card, I’d prefer to be running the G2 @ 90Hz.

I may dust off my Samsung to see if I can increase some MSFS graphics settings and still have smooth flights. It might turn out to be a better experience with the 1080ti even with the Samsung screendoor effect (I’m not doing much night flying so the OLED black blurr isn’t a factor).

I did but I’m back to the G2 as the Odyssey screendoor effect is very distracting, probably less of an issue with your O+. The G2 @ 60Hz is also flyable with the Bonanza G36 with OXR Preview=ON, OXR=70%, MSFS =80% using the 1080ti.

I pulled out my O to check the difference between it and the O+. Wow, big difference. I couldn’t tell you my framerate as I’ve never checked it in MSFS. Sometimes it’s slower than others but it’s never been unplayable in the medium hight graphics range.
