Whenever I fly low and close to the watermasks they get erased before my eyes.
See video: (St Barts TFFJ)
Is this a known issue? Sure hope so, because its a big buzzkill!

Not sure really. Could it be anything to do with your settings in options e.g. level of detail distance or something like that ???
I think that might be a bug/issue. I noticed it in a couple of Youtube videos I was watching.
Yeah, it’s a known issue. :\ Hopefully it’s addressed on the 27th as there’s so much emphasis on floatplanes with SU5.
at least know to some users, but not sure if SU5 will fix it (actually doubt it, it will)
This happens if you fly around 1300ft or below, where normaly the high resolution texture would load in, but for some reason it is not just a different level of detail but a different texture entirely?
i mapped a part in north of germany where this occures
visible aswell in ObsidianAnts video (time mark 2.14)
What Ive noticed about the water mask issue, is that if you fly along certain areas, due to bad reporting stations, the masks will change. Just the other day Im flying along Lake Erie take off, get out over the lake fly to about where Lost Nation airport reporting station is, and boom the water when from having 3 of 4 foot waves to being perfectly flat, then as I passed into the next reporting area, boom the waves and winds are back to where they were when I took off.
I think its more of an issue with the reported weather, then it is with the water masks themselves. If I turn off live weather the lake stays consistent the whole flight.
This same behavior can be found in Xplane as well when live weather is on its just not as pronounced, but its still there. I’ve seen it in other areas ingame as well.
i’m not sure what reported weather has to do with different ground textures? That wind and therefore waves change in different reagions (even though rather abruptly) coudl have to do with it though.
In response to the original post, this bug has been around at least since the France/Benelux World Update and there’s already a thread about it.
I have experienced similar issues with the water at Baie de St Jean where the water mask turns into a square. It has been an ongoing issue there ever since I have had the sim. Will try to post a screenshot later of it. Have noticed it at times elsewhere but not as much as in this specific location. I wonder if the issue is somehow linked with Bing Ground imagery where often the Bing imagery as well has imagery of the coastal waters? I have never noticed this issue over open ocean or large bodies of water, only over water that is close to land.
We’re talking in a 60 mi radius. Cleveland to Erie, as the crow flies. There are 5 weather reporting areas 3 of those stations report weather correctly. The other 2 I dont think are even sending data. So as you move from a valid reported weather into one of these zones the weather will abruptly change unless the real weather is the same as the erroneous reporting stations. If not then there are some very sometimes even funny changes in the weather and sea conditions. One time Im flying (this is a benchmark flight btw) to Erie on my morning should I bother flight, its raining like hell, there are actual white caps and as I cross over into one of these non-reporting stations all of a sudden the lake is flat as gas and the cloud cover (heavy at the time) disappears and turns to blue skies, then as I crossed out of the reported area and into the next the clouds pop back in and and the seas are rough once again.
Ive lived here most of my life and while I know that weather around here can change in a heartbeat, it never changes like that in real life.
Xplane has the same situation in the same place though not quite so dramatic or comical. So again it boils down to 5 reported areas with 2 not giving anything but the same info.
Of course on the other hand Aws was hacked again today knocking out several major servers, so that could of had something to do with it. LOL?
fine, still a completely different issue, this thread is about different textures poping in at different flight levels.
No it isnt its about the water masks changing while at low level flight.
Hi there,
This topic is about water masks, not weather. However, I am going to close this topic, as it is a duplicate. I would suggest logging a separate Zendesk ticket for this Lake Erie issue.
