Is TrackIR worth it?

I have TrackIR as well, with the additional active headset thingy. Works very well - except if there is a bright light shining on it when it goes berserk! Unfortunately because of this I cannot use it in mid to late afternoon because the sun (yes we do get sunshine in the UK) is shining through windows directly on to it. Unfortunately do not have the luxury of a separate place to put my rig.

I tried TrackIR with clip on headphone for almost 2 weeks.
I get pain in my head, eyes and neck cramps, because it’s so difficult to hold the view a bit stable.
On a short flight it go’s well, but for longer flights it to demanding.
I tried all settings to lower the responce, but it is not stable enough for me.
Finally i sent it back to the store and got my money back.

I will stay with my triple monitor configuration.

This is why it has a pause function…

I paused it permanently by sending it back to the store.
It is nothing for me.

I would assume: you not found the right setting

But yes, it is still a Head-Tracking and you move your head allways. If you try to hold still all the time, you get issues with your neck. Working with the Pause function is very helpfull , in special in the big airliners where you not realy need the real-time head-tracking , compared e.g. with a helicopter or the little airplanes with more focus on what happens around you.

Case closed!
TrackIR is back to the shop.

Had this problem with my GrassMonkey Puck. It hopped around like a frightened cricket. Blinds and drapes solved it.

For me personally triple monitors (four in my case) isn’t enough. TrackIR is a huge QoL improvement in a flight sim and when I ran over my first TrackClip PRO I immediately bought another one and couldn’t play DCS, XP, P3D or MSFS till it arrived, it just wasn’t the same anymore. There are things TrackIR can do that a triple monitor setup can’t.

I would say it is worth it

Not always.
Depends on the position and intensity of the surrounding lights in the room.
Sometimes I have to recenter by pressing F12 but it’s pretty doable.
Back in time, with the TrackIr I had to adapt the fact that moving your head translated in movement of field of view.
After a while it felt complete natural and since that moment I wouldn’t fly without it.
Glasses don’t screw up ( at least not in my case)
