Thank you for your honesty.
I think that probably explains a lot of it.
just have a little patience. the chaos will surely subside again soon. like at PokemonGo back then
I did some rest flights at EGLL last night. It was very busy but to be fair the vast majority of players were forming orderly lines on the taxiway and waiting their turns. The skies were very chaotic but I think it’ll settle down. When the game first launched and people were doing videos there always people doing outrageous things. Plenty free 747 aerobatic displays.
I mean, what do you expect. Console players are mostly not simmers, but gamers.
Simmers traditionally use a PC, run several supporting programs along the sim (charts, performance calculators, nav tools, online network and VA clients..), add expensive hardware, only to fly hours on a flightplan, and even having fun doing it in the most realistic way.
There is no goal, no real action (although landing can get exciting depending on weather, airport and procedures used).
What can you do on consoles? Most of them use it on game pass. They fly over their house, and then search for action. And after seeing this ‘game’ can’t be ‘played through’, is repeating, it will get boring and they move on.
That’s the majority, I don’t say there aren’t real simmers along the Console community.
I’d say that regularly returning console users will be very few compared to the number of users now. Console is great for gaming, but only the PC is suitable for serious simming.
It’s always going to be a thing, and some clever Twitch streamers will quickly figure out a way to monetize their crazy antics in MSFS 2020.
I do have Live Traffic on, but I rarely see anyone else in-sim. I only really ever fly around SE Asia.
as simmer, we can only hope people on xbox stop to play the new toy after one months of two and go back on warzone and fortnite.
Please don’t speak in the name of all “simmers”.
I hope XBox users keep on playing/simming as long as possible.
If you want people to follow rules, use alternatives. That’s nothing new but applied before XBox release alike.
was not mi intention to speak as all of simmers. maybe i just got salty.,
yes, on separate servers, and ideally, on a separate codebase.
I disagree.
I disagree again.
absolutely free to disagree.
neither opinion has more weight than another. they’re just opinions.
now, for the facts.
graphic quality has drastically been reduced to fit within constraints of couchgamers. full of videos, screenies, etc. fact.
people trying to shoot an ILS after a STAR are seeing inverted 747s above airports, people taking off from taxiways, etc. fact.
opinions are opinions.
facts are facts.
console gamers and pc just don’t mix on this game.
“Other players are having fun and that upsets me.”
That has been the case before xbox release as well.
Many similar threads here on the forums are a proof.
I believe what you’ve missed in my suggestion (re: using a nudge…) is that it is not about forbidding anyone! That is the beauty of it to me actually: it uses psychology and behavioural studies proven to be working IRL.
There is an article linked in the topic which explains how this approach is in fact very effective. It takes the example of urinals where just painting a fly reduces drastically the occurrences of people u.rinating outside the urinal (because your mind leads you to u.rinating on the fly instead).
There are other examples I’ve seen in documentaries where just painting a fake 3D shadow below pedestrian crossing white marks makes drivers slowing down significantly (much more than planting a speed limit signage) because the mind sees the white painting as if they were protruding from the ground. (I believe this one example speaks more to non-American people - believe me I’ve been living both sides of the Atlantic and at least in France, the concept of a pedestrian crossing a road is really different than in the USA for example )
So you are right, this won’t prevent anyone doing anything, but I strongly believe it will help a lot naturally, and even if not, just the suggested wording changes are in my opinion more appropriately reflecting what these two default lobbies are meant for anyhow (compared to the current in-game wording).
Do you use the VR Cockpit Zoom function? By default, it is supposed to be assigned to the right mouse button. Mine wasn’t, but as soon as I figured that out, I put it there and on a button on my joystick, and when zoomed in, it’s clear as day. Although I don’t seem to be having the same issues as you even zoomed out, but I also have HP G2s, so the higher resolution could help explain that.
As for the OP, yes, I’ve seen some of the antics of which you speak, and I am in the “it’s a new toy for Xboxers who will get bored quickly” camp. You can probably fix a lot of it by not using “All players”, but rather the other one that I can’t remember the name of that forces you to use real time and weather. In my experience, those tend to be more serious folks, but I have no idea if the Xbox release has changed that, too.
I don’t believe I have a solve for your question, but related to it, here is a post about this you might want to check out to see if you agree with:
Make it impossible to spawn on runway in Live mode - #55 by CptLucky8
Thanks, I voted for the thread a long time ago. There are various approaches to change this, yours included, my main concern is that it is at least addressed.
Kind of begs the question, don’t they do alpha and beta testing on this stuff? How is it possible that this made it out of alpha, let alone beta, testing?
It’s cool, I’ll just wait. Only had it a few months. I just don’t get how some of these issues weren’t discovered before an official release.
@Coppersens
The post I’m linking to above contains new materials that only occurred to me lately.
The game already has everything coded and used already to supporting spawning at the gate or on the runway, in the aircraft state you’d want. The only missing piece is that they provide:
-
A selection tool to choose from more than the 2 defaults states they are using and which every aircraft vendors is already providing (C&D, taxi, takeoff, flight, etc…)
-
An additional spot point which is the RWY threshold, if not anywhere on any taxiway.
At least, offering a drop down list to select from 3 states manually, instead of automatically being C&D at the gate would help a lot and is mostly a UI change and a what might end up being just a few lines of code reusing the existing code doing most of this already.
