I thought I’d share a thread aimed at people who enjoy ‘third-person flight’. i don’t want to appear unkind, but I think ‘third-person flight’ gets looked down upon.
I quite accept that in-cockpit flight is more authentic. It more correctly simulates flight. We don’t follow aircraft around from 30-feet behind in real life! But for me, I find it more immersive to enjoy the flight from such a perspective.
It’ve taken the time to bind my HOTAS with double-button binds so that I can fly (more or less) completely from stand to stand without leaving a 3rd-person view. (Airliners next, that could be more challenging).
I’m past 100 hours flight time in 2024 and I have yet to complete a single flight ‘in-cockpit’ and frankly have no urge to do so.
Anyone else enjoy 3rd-person flight?
Or is this a guilty secret I shouldn’t be discussing?
I am with you on enjoying 3rd person flight. I find it has been one of the most important aspects of flightsim since the FSX days. It allows you to enjoy the scenery going by and observing your aircraft in flight. I also like to make sure that the pilots and crew are depicted properly.
It makes for the most visually stunning screenshots and the fun of just switching back to the pilots view for landing and critical maneuvering.
I have always found this to be of great importance although I really like the ability to pan around and see the aircraft at all angles.
I agree, both are fun but the outside view is way nicer.
I so wish we had custom outside camera view, like wing, close to fuselage, tail view. Something Chaseplane did so well with FSX
I haven’t installed it yet in FS2024, but I own //42 Flow Pro, and it has a nice interface for selecting camera views in FS2020 I didn’t know I had. IIRC, one of them was a really cool wing view.
This i like, but i do this in drone mode unfortunate in msfs2024i have not found the way how to control the airplane like i did in msfs2020 with the keyboard c key.
With drone you have more possible view scenario like aircraft high in the air while camera view to the ground or aircaft flying at high altitude with camera is even higher and the possibility to display the plane in whatever corner you like and display as much of earth area as wanted.
I really like the new mode for screenshots on PC using the Shift+V. I find it is really nice as you can zoom in and out, reposition the camera and focus. I found on some aircraft that I have been using,
oh yeah same. I do external chase view 90% of the time. I just fly for fun, and fun for me is the world view and seeing around. not doing buttons and systems.
i am using MSFS2024 but i can not find a aircraft which really supports YourControls for shared cockpit in MSFS2024. Does the IRIS Grob 115 RAF Tainer really fully supports the shared cockpit in MSFS2024 ?
I love chase view. When flying VFR in particular, it gives great situational awareness. I know there are many in cockpit or nothing snobs out there but I say each to their own!
