I’m with the OP on this one. I understand it was a lot of work, but $40 is a steep price to pay in order to fix something Asobo should be doing for the base sim. I feel the same about buying scenery packs for roads or obstacles.
Figured I’d take one for the team and try it out.
Couple initial notes:
- the manual is available before your purchase, and it lists every airport that’s covered. If your favorite airports are not covered, you can find this out before you buy.
- they note that if you have conflicts with other scenery, you can remove their version of any individual airport by renaming the .bgl file from the folder, so it won’t get loaded in future
My first test was at KHIO (Portland-Hillsboro) which by default has all the taxiways labeled wrong. I have a custom version from flightsim.to installed, so let’s see what happens!
ATC put me on departure to 31L via taxiway A8 from the south parking, which makes sense. Signs look ok, no duplicates, and the taxiways are correct.
Let’s fly over to KUAO (Aurora State), which I don’t have a custom one for. Simple airport, but looks correct after landing.
Respawn over to untowered KMMV (McMinnville Municipal), with two runways and a slightly wonky layout. Signage on A is good (and correct – the default scenery calls it B!), but no signage on D after crossing 04-22 from A2 or farther down going towards 35. I’ll report this on their forum in a bit.
So far, some missing signs that are no worse than the default, and some improvements.
Later landed at KOLM (Olympia) and found that while the taxiway signage was correct, I was given wildly bizarre taxi directions to parking.
This product changes the default taxi signs in all airports if you allow it to.
That makes it work in other places not just in the US. The fact the taxi signs are now readable makes this one of the best add ons I’ve bought for MSFS.
They make the task signs larger and slightly more orange as compared to the default bright yellow. And I don’t even fly in the US.
I agree that this is how taxi signs should be default in the sim, but till the time Asobo fix this, this addon will be very handy.
Does anyone know if the creators intend to keep the taxiway data up-to-date or will it remain in the current state, resulting in outdated data in some years?
The latest MSFS update (Oct 21) broke it… Not just CTD on my rig, but a full shutdown!
Not a word out of Just Flight and I can’t seem to find any developer named, “Black Square”.
Buyer Beware!
I never had a CTD using this Mod, when I fly around the U.S.
Working just fine for me after the update. No issues, no crashes. Just better taxiway labeling as advertised.
It’s given me reliable CTDs on SU6 as well.
I’ll definitely wait for Asobo to fix the taxiways. In the mean time I still have Navigraph charts to reference.
I’m sure that is just the differences in everyone’s own rig.
As always, your mileage may vary!
What I did notice as well as during taxi, prior to CTD, one of the inserted signs at my favorite airport read, “ZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZ”.
I figured that was the rest area!
No crashes here. Try wiping your rolling cache, if you haven’t done so already. That fixes a shocking number of things…
The signs are washed out at night so still need to be close some what to read the signs. Idk if it’s worth paying the 40. I’m up in the air yet if I like it or not.
The latest update has completely REMOVED ALL MY taxiways from EVERY airport??? Uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch??? HELP
Is there anyway to just keep the ground markings with the black outlines, but not the signs update and other stuff?
Been working on an airport that has drastically changed, but don’t want to have the signs dropped in wrong locations now, but love the black outlines on the markings…
I guess you just have to rename the selected airport. Look at you addon folder root installation and find xxxx.bgl in the \scenery\global\scenery folder
Anyone else not able to get the black back taxiway signs ?
anyone else unable to get the black back signs to show up, selected the optional textures but all sings are still yellow on the back.
At one hand-crafted airport I see no taxiway signs. They do appear when viewing the default version of the airport. This only occurs at one airport. I’m using Real Taxiways, but the situation is the same if I remove Real Taxiways. What is the fix?
What airport?
