It’s becoming more common to see two or more very highly detailed renditions of the same airport releasing in a short space of time. Most recently there’ve been LEBL (MK and Sim-Wings) and ENGM (Finn Hansen / Orbx and Jo Erlend Sund / Aerosoft). Last year we had potentially four versions of CYUL, though only two were ultimately released.
We now have two decent-looking sceneries for Kefalonia — one covering just the airport, and the other a bit of the island too. The only online review I could find covers FSDG’s, with nothing for Fly X’s — does anyone have experience with either? Or at a push, both?
The FSDG seems to be the clear winner — and the inclusion of other bits of the island is certainly an attractive bonus — but with little to go on, it’s a tough call. Fly X’s is significantly cheaper but I’d rather pay the extra for a superior package.
The one thing that puts me off Fly X’s is the disproportionate focus on the terminal interior and arriving and departing airliners in the promo vid. I always find this to be a sort of intentional but subliminal diversion from other aspects of the scenery which might be far less impressive (i.e. more basic).
FSDG is an unknown quantity for me as I currently own nothing of theirs. They’re German; and German products tend to be of a very high quality!
Thanks in advance for any insight.

I got the FSDG version of Kefalonia yesterday. A beautiful airport. Textures of the ground and buildings, interior, a very detailed landside. It all looks very nice and has been realized with great attention to detail. Only the tower without an interior disturbs the good overall impression a little. Everything else has been recreated in such detail that the tower is a bit of a shame. And I noticed one or two bugs, like the terrain sticking out of the tiles at one point in the baggage claim area. But these are minor details. All in all, a clear recommendation from me.
And I also took a closer look at the trailer from Fly X Simulations. Interior and textures look better in FSDG. And I think the very detailed road away from the airport is completely missing in Fly X. For me, FSDG is clearly ahead. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether this justifies the extra cost. But I almost always buy the best version of a scenery.

Yes, definitely would prefer to spend the extra and get the best, if one is significantly better than the other. I recall CYUL getting released by both MK and BMW/Amsim, around the same time — as is often the case, there seemed no clear winner so when the BMW/Amsim version got put on sale almost immediately (half the price of the MK), that made the decision for me.
I’ll get FSDG’s, based on your recommendation. My gut feeling was that it’s superior to the Fly X so you confirmed my suspicions. In this case, the extra £4 is going to be worth paying.
