I love the Asobo Cabri but she cannot fly very high. She gets out of breath at 7k+ feet and then of little use in the Himalayas or the Andes for instance. So I am looking at the Lama or the Alouette.
which one can fly the highest of the two (in the sim,, in real life I know) ?
is one faster than the other ?
And are they FPS friendly to use on an old computer (4770+1080 combo) ?
I have both of them and am equally happy with each. The Lama is a little lighter weight obviously but they will both get you up to Everest base camp and higher with good power management.
I think you would be happy with either. i5 with a 4070 no issues
Just about made summit of Mont blanc a few days ago in Allouette it really struggled and i feel i pushed it to far that was around 16000
a better high alt helicopter would be the H125
Airbus H125 (technically was a AS350) , is a single-engine, light utility helicopter. It holds the world record for the highest-altitude landing and takeoff, performed on Mount Everest at 8,848 metres, a title still held today.
I have most i do not have EC135, 145, lama or the long ranger
the H125 is one of the best, i’ve done a lot of high alt flying in, it its always my choice for that. Currently been flying allouette around the alps and while i love it it does struggle.
also loving the new R66 too
A bit surprised everyone likes the Cowansim H125 so much. Yaw behavior seemed quite odd to me, and visibility is relatively bad compared to most other MSFS helicopters. I really prefer the Lama, great performance and loads of character! But a big update for the H125 seems to be coming soon, looking forward to it.
No odd yaw on H125 for me V1 was horrid v1.02 was great, im expecting it to be ruined on V2 if its anything like the md500 which has been ruined
though the R66 is great
I don’t know the history of the lama but i am surprised it was designed for Himalayas since it has a ceiling of only 17000 feet. maybe at the time that was best could be done
That’s totally normal i do that on all helicopters as well as in the hover Any small movement on cyclic or collective will need compensating inputs on tail rotor there used to be a saying something like if you stop moving any of the controls you’re not doing it right.
in the hover power inputs change quickly. also your control settings may affect how it reacts. I find all helicopters far to sensitive in all axis so usually for tail rotor i have quite a big extremity dead zone about 25%
The Lama reminds me of driving a sports car while the Alouette flies like a large truck, just my two cents for some perspective. You can’t go wrong with either, Taog makes the best helis in the sim imo.
I’m curious: speaking about flight model, which do you prefer: Taog’s Allouette or Cowan’s H125?
I have the impression that Taog helos are more detailed in all aspects: graphics, deep systems and flight model, only surpassed by FlightInside helos. Or am I wrong?
I much prefer both to Cowan’s. The Cowansim helis fly like they are on rails to me… it feels as if the helicopter is unaffected by environmental factors. Now I do agree that flyinside has the most realistic flight model, but for some reason Taog’s helicopters feel like I am actually sitting inside them while with flyinside I can tell I am flying a pc simulator. I know that statement would make some people mad but that is just my two cents
Exactly my feelings! I also think Taog has the best combination of flight model, graphics and features. FlyInside has more realism, especially in the engine department. HPG are the kings of modern systems and auto pilot. But flying a Taog’s helicopter feels the most immersive to me.
Presumably it depends on the variant? A Lama has held the altitude record for helicopters for 50 years. One reached ~42000 feet (13000 feet higher than the summit of Everest) in the early '70s and the record still stands.
Edit: Before someone says “buh buh buh but!” about the AS350 that touched down on the summit of Everest, that one was lightened too. The interior had nothing in it except the pilot’s seat, and even the top hat on the rotor disk had been removed to save a bit of extra weight. The “Mystery Chopper” as it came to be called wasn’t a stock AS350.
Not to be that person buh buh but, Fred North did beat the record in 2002, In Cape Town Africa. 42,500ft. The French government wouldn’t allow him the airspace clearances to complete the task in his home country like his predecessor Jean Boulet in his Lama. So yes this record still stands in France. But the world record for Helicopter Altitude was set by Fred North in a As350B2.
Interesting side note. They both flamed out on descent and had to restart their engines.
As well in my attempt in CowanSims H125/As350bB3 I only made it to 31,000ft in the sim.
