Landing and/or taxi lights on airplanes don't project far enough or bright enough

Agree. The taxi and landing lights are far to dim and do not throw anything like a realistic beam of light.

Since this wasn’t improved in the last update, let’s hope it will be in future updates.

PLEASE fix them. Out of most aircraft i have flown there either barely visible or dont do anything when in the cockpit. They appear to illuminate the ground in external view but in the cockpit there completely useless. I just had to land at a airfield with no illumination and i could make out the runway even at 50 feet. And when i did land and was taxing i couldn’t see where i was going because there was no light ahead of me. That was in the king air.

Please please fix. I enjoy night flying. And this bug makes it not fun at all.

Regards
Mike

If you look around this forum, you will see a discussion about how to fix them. Also, flightsim.com has a freeware patch that may be helpful. Look in the msfs files.

Found it: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=79887055

Hi all, it would seem I found the FlightSim lighting download, which I’ll just send you to the github: TBM 930 Enjoy!

The one i found at flightsim.com seems to go with all aircraft. Have not tested it yet because i’m doing a OnAir flight. But after the flight i will check it out and Report on it. I’m flying the Kingair atm. Thats what sparked the post

Ok so i have been having a look at the Kingair in more detail. And what i have found is well just plain lazy or HORRIBLE QA.
So in the cockpit turning on Landing lights/Taxi Lights does nothing at all. In external view YES they do work like switching on left landing light it illuminates, right landing and taxi etc etc. But and i couldn’t get over this, in order to have ANY light in the cockpit illuminating the ground i had to turn on recognition light switch, and that is a waste of time because the default light settings a weak. I dont want to harp on about it but this is VERY poor. That we have to goto a modder or tweak the settings ourselves to have something that should be default experience is quite shoddy to say the least.

Couldn’t agree more with your assessment of the default models. I have gone as far as writing the CEO of Microsoft and EVP of Gaming at Microsoft. These would be fine placeholders if we were still in Alpha testing, just to get feedback. But to launch a pay product at this stage of readiness is bad business, because it is so frustrating to use. I’m gonna hang in there, because I suspect things will get better, but a far worse start than could have been.

The TBM mod fixes it for the TBM 930:
https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/tbm-lighting-updates/261103

And I also incorporated a fix for the G36 in the G36 improvement mod project, it will be included in the upcoming version v0.4 (currently in dev branch):

Surely the default is very lazily done, but at least you can count on the community to come up with some improvements on the standard-edition aircraft.
Asobo simply created effects for most aircraft in a common fashion (using the very same effects file), did not bother to tailor the light effects (only position/orientation) for each individually. This is why it looks bad on most of the aircraft.

Hello? taxiway and landing lights do not illuminate the taxiway with the Beech King Air 350. it is annoying at night not to see the road. Thank you

In addition to not illuminating anything properly, I have recently had issues in the TBM with the landing lights turning on and off while the switch is on (pulse function is not on). I keep getting “Landing lights off during approach” penalty in OnAir during my take-off roll, while the switch is set to on. I can see them going on and off randomly when flying in IMC.

I agree,The strobe, beacon lights also doesn’t illuminate the ground properly and these lights as well as their ground reflections lacks that flashy bloom effect .This effect is properly rendered in XP11.
Also,In general the illumination of all the airport ground lighting (apron, taxiway, runway lights, papi) needs to be inceased as well.
If these little things that affects realism are addressed,I feel we don’t have to look into any other flight simulators in the coming future.

This thread needs more upvoting

absolutely agree

Agreed. Landed at some airport that had no lights besides the runway ones, and there i am attempting to taxi and find a spot in the King Air with lights that illuminate nothing.

Agreed100%

To add, the strobe and nav lights don’t seem to illuminate their surroundings. Using strobe lights in a cloud should be disorienting to the pilot. Right now they’re just little white dots at the tip of the wings.

Has anyone seen strobe lights illuminate the ground? Once again, strobe lights are VERY powerful LEDs and should be disorienting to look at at night.

Its better to search for related threads already raised regarding these issues and upvote and comment on those threads rather than creating multiple similar threads. This is also convenient for the developers to track all the comments regarding a particular issue at a single place. By creating multiple threads the votes get distributed which is not beneficial in any way and is also against the code of conduct.

So, better to do as said and upvote an already raised issue so that the issues move up the line and a realistic demand for that topic is reached

The taxi and landing lights are SO DIM. Doesn’t even feel like they’re barely on. I’ve noticed this in most planes and especially in the Cessna Longitude.

Hm, maybe it could be the same problem as the night lighting bug.
