Since about 2-3 hours my sim is suddenly missing all trees, osm_buildings and waterbodies worldwide (example screenshots show default Madeira Island). Addons have been deactivated. The only thing that changed is that NVIDIA seems to have installed a new driver in the background (see screenshot)

Could you try to start in safe mode and test again ?: once into the sim, go to the Windows task manager, terminate msfs.exe and restart, you’ll get the safe mode prompt.
I’ll be… running safe mode fixed it! Even reverting back to normal mode had everything working again as intended. May not have been the NVIDIA driver after all as this one remained unchanged.

Ok, Safe mode disable both your community folder addons and Marketplace ones located in a different folder. So maybe the culprit is one of your Marketplace addons.
I did the approach into LIPZ with no visible problems, and also spawned there and didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. You could try to re-install your driver, (whatever version you choose). I’ve heard that 555.99 is buggy, but I still haven’t had the time to research and find out why. I’m on 555.85 and it’s been fine for me.
That’s interesting. Been happy with latest Nvidia driver since it was released. But today I had a lot of problems trying to get going in the sim, nothing in particular, just general malaise. So eventually I “forced” a close and restarted in Safe Mode, which completed quickly and cleanly. Exited and tried again in normal, all now okay. Very odd!
Yes, that’s what fixed it here too. I noticed immediately when it happened because all trees and houses were gone WORLDWIDE - which could have been a community folder issue with faulty excludes or the like.
What did strike me however were those other glitches with waterbodies not working neither and the weird tiling and low-res landsat imagery popping in way too early. Which seems to be more engine related and nothing from the community folder.
Also resetting graphic settings and clearing the cache didn’t help.
The only thing that helped in the end was running in safe mode once and after that all was good again.
