This exactly, the eye adaptation is so overdone itâs awful and has been through 2020 and now 2024. I can only assume some developer is really in love with this effect and is unwilling to tone it down or make it optional. This topic has come up plenty of times before and has always been ignored. I guess it makes for pretty screenshots anyway.
Our eyes have to adjust to screen brightness on their own, thereâs no need for such a strong simulated effect to amplify that.
I agree with this topic wholeheartedly ! This effect is NASTY !!! Especially in VR. Creates ugly washed out colors like a colorful t-shirt that has been washed milion times.. just super UGLY ! I do not understand that devs cannot see the atrocity of it !
In 2020 I was able to tone it down using Rex Atmos.. but still after 4 years no fix in 2020 and even worst in 2024.
The problem with referring to it as eye adaption is it doesnât reflect exactly what the sim is doing. The sim does not have eyes.
What it is doing is changing the exposure level automatically. Thus auto-exposure describes the issue perfectly.
But whatever, as long as it gets fixed, I donât care.

Are you sure? Iâm not a pilot IRL but certainly in Australia and Asia generally haze in the atmosphere can lead to a significant brightness and washed out appearance of the landscape. Haze can occur from many sources such as smoke, salt spray coastal areas, resins from trees, dust etc. Not to mention smog from vehicles!
I am not using the autoexposure setting as it does not simulate natural processes where the human eye compensates for light intensity (if that is its intended function). Although it could be useful when in VR and time is changed instantly from night to day, lol!
You can see here how in cloudy weather this auto-exposure completely, completely ruins ruins the sim.
It needs to be removed asap.

Maybe someone who is fluent in french can translate the issue for the Devs?

This is something we were all complaining about in msfs2020 as well, and they never managed to fix it.
If I remember correctly, the eye adaptation effect is less noticeable in the live SU1 version.
Not sure if this belongs here, but the Strip in Las Vegas has turned into a large glowing yellow blob at night. Even while on the tarmac at KLAS, its almost blinding. Glad I wasnt in VR.
Human eyes will dilate depending on the level of light they are receiving and will change between looking out at the sunlight and then back to a dark interior, and thatâs what the simulator is trying to emulate. In the current state, itâs technically not wrong, itâs just that the range of change is too great and needs to be more subtle, or at least adjustable by the user.
Now that is the issue. They stated they increased the range but im not so sure. Cause at sunset. It just starts to dim. Then plunk. Pitch black. Same thing happens in cloud cover. Theres not much variance.
I suspect they arenât testing it in VR. I think on 2D monitors it can solve some problems. But in VR my eyes are actually working like they should IRL.
In VR we should be able to disables this and it should be by default.
This slider is not in TAA ? I donât see it there - I donât use DLSS
The slider is doing what it says â biasing the auto-exposure value up or down by some given amount.
It is not doing what you want, which is to change the auto-exposure algorithmâs ability to track a target brightness so that having bright sunlight in front behind clouds doesnât make things as dark and looking at flat areas under the clouds doesnât look as bright.
We had this topic in the past in FS2020 already.
In FS2020 it was possible to disable eye adaptation by editing UserCfg.opt file manually. Then, I think it was with sim update 10 it was completelly removed from VR. It never bothered me again (I play exclusivelly VR).
It also never bothered me in fs2024. But looking at the videos posted here I agree it looks awful and I am actually surprised that its still present for monitor users. I have now discovered that the option that we used to disable it in fs2020 is now missing in the UserOpt.cfg file.
However I would recommend trying it anyway. Chances are good that it is removed from the config file, but maybe still interpreted by the graphics engine.
try adding this to Graphics section in usercfg.opt file. edit it with notepad++
