Leonardo Software House – MD–88

Nobody is talking about this new expansion?

I found the MD-88 pretty nice with all the “modern” avionics"

just lacking good tutorials for it, anyone here got it?

It’s hard to tell what is different from the MD-82 as the cockpit looks very similar. Which parts of the avionics are different and do you think it’s different enough from the MD-82 to justify getting?
Have yet to see a detailed yt video showing what’s new so have held off getting at this point.

Probably no noise about this because Leonardo have decided to do “An Expansion” on an existing product and not release a new variant as a standalone product, just like every other developer have done in MFS??..

This means that if a new customer wanted to get just the MD-83/MD-88, they’d have to spend 120 flipping Euros (or $130). Insanity.

They continue to be obtuse in the way they port and deliver their products to this platform. I was hoping they’d see more sense after their first release on MFS, but clearly they cannot adapt to the MFS landscape.

All I see are some extra fuel pump switches on the overhead and the FMC showing I have the new engines.

I think the thing here is their MD-82 comes already with the retrofit EFIS panel, unlike like the original -81, -82, and -83 which had round dials. So the MD-88 expansion doesn’t sound too appealing (at least to me), because you already have the more modern gauges, you’re just getting the extra fuel tanks and corresponding switches for the most part.

I flew the -88 yesterday and struggled to notice any difference from the -82. The -83 is the more useful one I think with more powerful engines and longer range. I owned the addon in P3D so this one cost me nothing.

Same question

What is “modern” avionics" of md88

Is it worth 25 euro?

On the flip side, PMDG releases multiple variants with their releases. TDFI is planning for the MD-11 to have several variants. The MD-83 is the same airframe as the MD-82, just with better engines and additional fuel tanks. The only change to the cockpit is to add the fuel handling. The MD-88 is the same airframe as the MD-82 with better engines and a glass cockpit. The MD-82 was already $85. Now adding another $30 puts it at $115, whereas with PMDG, I get mutliple variants for $70. The pricing model seems kind of excessively high, and $30 for what we get with this expansion seems steep as compared to any other MSFS aircraft.

Keep in mind, the MSFS population is 10 million now. That is more than any other flight sim ever. All prices from all vendors have adjusted accordingly except for Leonardo. I just don’t see this expansion as worth another $30 on top of the $85 I have already paid.

But the maddog has the EFB

Yes I am struggling to see the benefits outside of the engines and performance. The cockpits seems the same as the MD-82 to me.

So do I. Not really interesting.

I get it and try the md-88.
The new engine is strong and I love it
It is worth buying than the expansion just change the bird size

The cockpit on the MD-88 is practically the same. If they kept the original cockpit on the MD-82 and -83 (round dials), then you’d see a difference with the -88. Their -82 already comes with the retrofit EFIS cockpit.

Would be really cool to see the old cockpits without the EFIS at some point.
