LGA 1700 or AM5? What do you think?

I plan to change MoBo and CPU (actually Ryzen 7 3800X) cause they bottleneck the new RTX 4070Ti too much. But i am really not sure if i take a AM5 board or the LGA 1700 from Intel. I am pretty sure that the MoBo will be from Asus and that the CPU should not bottleneck the GPU.
For the MoBo i plan round about 300€, for the CPU 400-500€ and for the new DDR5 RAM round about 200€. I just want to hear what you think resp. which decision you already made and what your experiences are?
Is there an actual poll here in the forum?
Or will this thread fit better to tech talk? I am not sure since its not very specific.

You will still be CPU limited in most cases. That’s just the nature of the current game. I’m still CPU limited most of the time with a 13th gen Intel and 6800XT.

No thought to the simple route and upgrading to the 5800X3D?

If you have to change MB and RAM, go with the 7800X3D. It’s the best fps/price ratio right now.

The 7 5800X3D wont be a real upgrade compared to my 7 3800X. I already thought about that but i dont want to buy a new CPU and realize then its still not sufficient enough. I am just insecure when it comes to question LGA1700 or AM5?

Is the 9 7900X3D the few bucks more worth?

Only if you make mixed use of your PC (i.e. gaming + heavy multitasking, video editing…) because the extra 4 cores don’t have access to the 3D VCache. I’d say that the 2 CPUs are equivalent in gaming.

Thank you for your post!
Your topic has been moved to the “Tech Talk” subcategory of “General Discussion & Community Support”
The Tech Talk sub-category is meant for simmers to discuss, ask or answer any questions related to sim installation, performance, crashes (CTDs), graphics and optimization, hardware, peripherals, community folder/add-ons, and anything that falls under the umbrella of “running the sim”.
It is open for both 1st party (base sim) content as well as 3rd party content,

The General Discussion category is meant for discussions that fall outside of our other sub-categories.

Please check out these other categories for your future posts:

  • Aircraft
is where you discuss current or future planes coming to MSFS.
  • World
is where you discuss scenery, airports, and weather.
  • Aviate, Navigate, Communicate
is where you ask for help with flying.
  • Menus & Activities
is where you discuss activities (landing challenges, bush trips, etc), plus anything accessed by the menus including the Marketplace, settings, logbook, cameras, etc.

OK i hope the benchmark is comparable to my rtx 4070ti. Since i use Unreal Engine 5 for designing regularly am i right the 9 7900X3D isnt a bad choice?

Oh thx. I was so near  My first thought was tech talk but the i guessed its more about things like ctd.

It’s a great choice, as well as the 7950X3D if your budget allows

For MSFS it will be.

For MSFS it will be. Drastic improvement at a low price point in your case. Value wise, interesting.
However, if you plan to use your computer as a workstation for MSFS & dev work, rendering etc, than 7950X3D provides the best performance balance as of now.
Note Intel is expected to release its 14th gen CPUs in Q3 2023 (maybe october).

OK. Skipping the 7950x3d and waiting for a better cpu in the future and meanwhile using the 7900x3d is probably my plan.

Frankly speaking i need it not only for MSFS. I think AM4 is dead and if i bauy 5800x3d i am afraid i wont be satisfied to soon and then i wasted 300€+x. If i am sure i will use this combination for at least 3 years it seems to be ok.
And Intel change the socket quite to often/fast in my opinion. AM5 will be supported at least until 2025.

Staying on AM4 only makes sense for a value upgrade for MSFS only.
For workstation tasks, AM5 is the better choice at the moment for the reasons you mention, platform longevity and performance.
As to core count, 7900X3D is no slouch but the higher end chip has 33% more cores…

Performance wise it’s a no brainer, there is a price premium that may or may not be justified depending on your specific usage/circumstances.

Thx and i did not knew this link. What i forgot to mention is that i also use Unreal Engine 5 frequently.
