List of Asobo enhanced airports

With every world update the say they have X enhanced airports, but they never give a list of which ones . I have to scrabble around trying to find mentions of them.

Is there a thread or list somewhere that has all the enhanced airports Asobo has done over the last 11 world updates or is there a way of highlighting them on the world map ?

They are usually listed with the release of the World Update. All releases get announced in #community:news-and-announcements

Or a search in that subcategory on “WorldUpdate”:

Search, and you will find:

Booked marked this one. Much easier than searching a dozen release notes. I’m surprised there isn’t an official pinned post that also includes POIs.

Would be handy to find a complete list of airports and pois definitely, so I don’t end up waisting money on add ons to find theyve already been hand crafted in a world update. I’m not messing about searching through 11 world update release notes trying to find them all.

I have noticed that the Asobo airports have a wonderful performance, and look almost the same as third party airports (normally I would not talk about FPS because what do I care if a videogame or simulator has 48 FPS or 32 FPS or 20 FPS or 29FPS or whatever-FPS… the GRAPHICS the visual quality the eyecandy is most important, and the rest can be tweaked in the graphics options menu anyway.)

But after finding out that almost all third party airports have an outstanding performance of 1 or 2 FPS while the Asobo Airports that look exactly the same have the usual 20 FPS or so I always fly with, I think I am going to switch back to Asobo quality
ALL airports back Asobo only until a proper graphics card is plugged in.

And there is an interesting detail, after clicking this link I see that the “WU#11 Bella Coola Airport” is on top of the list.
For example that third-party Bella Coola Airport I am using is not even showing up on the navigation display of the Fenix Airbus, while all Asobo default airports are.

So it is not the best solution to install too many third-party airports because these are often poorly implemented on the terrain and map, have a performance that is literally horribly (no matter what graphics setting and which airplane is used - it´s 1FPS), often don´t show up on navigation maps or have no functional ILS.
That´s why I am always happy to see Asobo themself taking care of the visuals and the realism of default airports

Thanks for sharing.
This map if not anything else shows which parts of the world have been grossly neglected till now.
I hope focus will shift accordingly sooner rather than later. (SE Europe. Asia. Africa. S America)

Hopefully with your permission sharing the screenshot.

don’t need my permission  it’s not my work, and it’s public.

This is what I am looking for. Thank you so much for that.

Well, it’s not the neglect from the flightsim team, rather than the inabilty to share or even the non-existance of dem data from those countries, as cartographing their country probably isn’t their first priority and if it is, their defence ministry will probably advise against sharing that data if it exists… because ofcourse, the fear of flightsimmers finding ammo storages all over just wouldn’t be the right cup of tea for them, even though we mean no harm, we just mean more detailed landscapes. I’m pretty sure the flightsim team is prodding every country out there, and who knows, maybe some flightsimmers higher up the food chain can do some good at voicing their flightsim desires to their local government… every bit helps in getting this sim as cool as it can get. From what i see on that map right now, is not where they didn’t go, but what they achieved with the shared dem and photogrammetry data… it’s not everyday a team gets to recreate the world!? Sharing is caring.

Anyways, back on topic, i love that map with all the addons, i use it to plan a route quite often after updates.

Woof ~ Woof & Salute!

What are you talking about? I have tons (> 30) third-party airports, and with almost all of them the performance Is just fine, not much different to stock handcrafted ones.

I believe most of the ‘handcrafted’ airports in world updates are done by third-party devs (ORBX etc), so no surprise here

That is probably a bit too generalized if we are talking about two entire continents (South America, Africa), plus all of mainland Asia, plus half of Europe.

Yes, I imagine that getting good DEM data is probably more difficult in dictatorships and/or in countries with weak economies, but it’s not like everything outside the US, Western/Central Europe and Japan fits that description.

Your point is widely known, the devs have said that multiple times. However, two points:

  • There will be countries in those areas that have excellent elevation data available
  • Would be great to know if the best and latest publicly-available DEM has been used, because there are areas in Africa particularly that don’t look so.
FYI there are free elevation datasets that cover 99% of the land surface from 83° north latitude to 83° south latitude with 1 arc-sec (30m) resolution.
    Anyway, lets hope.

adding to that, they are probably working on the most popular airspace first. Most people fly over NA and Europe, so that’s where the initial focus is.

Still hoping for SA, Africa, India etc myself as well.

You’ve got a problem with your setup if you have 1-2 FPS. I have many add-on airports with minimal impact to FPS. I suggest you do some testing.

And regarding the quality of Asobo hand-crafted airports, I agree that most are very nice. But, I flew into KDFW at night the other day and the terminal B ramp didn’t have any apron lighting. I think that’s a pretty major oversight.
