List of bug avoidance measures for MSFS2024 Career Mode is as follows:
Be aware of skipping the taxi stage. Users have reported that this can sometimes lead to “aircraft crashed” screens
Another bug in the taxi stage is when you are told by the game to cross or enter an active runway. Do not do this, as it will give you an aviator performance penalty. Drive around the side of the runway on the grass/terrain to the ‘hold short’ box to avoid the penalty. (Yes this works, I tested it).
Sometimes apon restarting a flight, you might notice your plane has significantly less fuel than what you loaded. As career mode currently has no way of loading fuel once in the mission, you need to bind “add fuel quantity” in your settings to add fuel to the aircraft. (A note on the TBM930 fuel issue is further down)
The Beechcraft Bonanza G36, and Robin D400 will give aviator performance penalties for “flap exceeding speed limits” when completely stationary/taxiing. The beechcraft is worse in my experience, giving you a penalty for every time you select notch 1. This has led me to avoid it completely.
The game will tell you to ‘hold short’ of taxiways behind the aircraft after landing which requires you to do a U-turn on the runway. However, some aircraft cannot do a full 180 on a narrow runway, and going onto the grass or anything surrounding the runway will give you an aviator performance penalty, so to be able to uturn, you need to press Alt+P to start a pushback so you can do the full turn. Also, when approaching the hold short markers exiting the runway, beware sometimes these will move at random, so go slow and stop the plane in the back half.
In regards to the ‘overflying airport without an announcement’ penalty, there is nothing as of yet to stop this. Just hope the bug bugs itself out and doesnt register at the end of the flight which is surprisingly common.
Some planes like the TMB 930 are stuck at 0% fuel in career mode. Even the ‘add fuel quantity’ keybind does not work. The only way to get fuel in the aircraft is to go into free flight, add around 70% fuel (enough for all missions), then go back to career mode and you plane will now start with 70% fuel in all missions as long as your session on msfs2024 lasts for. If you restart the game, you will have to do it again.
For any flights requiring IFR clearance, cancel them once starting your approach into the destination airport, as the AI ATC is absolutely abysmal at giving approach instructions and will often just vector you away from the airport at cruise altitude. Cancel the IFR and manually request landing permission from the airport tower. This has worked every time I have tried it. Although, I am not sure about what happens if the airport you are trying to land at denies your request. When that happened to me, I somehow forced the tower to accept my landing request while VFR.
Skydiving missions require you to takeoff, and skip the entire climb because the game expects a C172 to somehow do 1000+fpm up to 10,000ft, which is literally not possible. Once you skip the climb you need to drop the jumpers, and as soon as the jump zone finishes, dive and sideslip all the way back down to the airport final approach and land immediately. This is the only way to avoid getting 0% in the time section of points.
A final note on the blue boxes. It is advised to stay on the path of the EFB route, but the altitude of your plane doesn’t seem to matter from my testing. In flights over land with hills or trees, it is hugely beneficial to climb an extra few thousand feet to get above the ridiculous turbulence experienced by pretty much every GA aircraft in the game. I noticed the flights I did above the weather had scores in the high 80s-90s so I don’t think the aircraft altitude is actually a factor. Lastly, stick to the flight plan in the EFB/top left map. That is the one you want to use, and following it will give you the best overall score. This includes following the pattern, ect.
Hope this helps, and sorry for the word vomit. I just dont want people experiencing the same pains as I did . Feel free to add and expand with yours in the replies.
The De Havilland Canada DHC-2 also has the aviator performance penalties for “flap exceeding speed limits” thing.
An addition to this list is that some hold short points are perfectly on the line between taxi and runway. You can technically still do this if you stop dead on the line. Just go inch by inch stopping each inch and you’ll be able to pass the hold short without penalty.
Another addition is to always turn on landing lights when taking off and landing, even during the day, or just leave them on for the entire flight. The game constantly penalizes the player for having them off even when it doesn’t make sense to have them on.
No, but seriously, I don’t blame you for figuring this out. And honestly, this is a good barometer as to how messed up our airmanship has to be in order to game the system. I look at it as a major bug report.
I have no idea how this is possible, but I regularly forget or just dont turn on my landing lights for many flights and I have never been penalised for it. Very wierd how some experience such issues and others don’t.
This may be a plane by plane issue, similar to the flaps exceeding speed limit thing. I have seen it on some planes and not others. I know for a fact the X Cub has had the landing lights issue.
Reporting each issue individually would take a lot of time lol. At this point i’d rather keep updating the full list so people are aware then sometime in the future turn it into bug reports.
No problem. It is currently 2.36am and I am bored out of my mind, and have nothing better to do . Seriously though, I think career is an excellent mode and if they can iron out the kinks and polish it up it will definitely be something that keeps people engaged rather than doing 3 freeflights to look at your house in sim then never touching it again
Not enough fuel to complete a mission is the biggest bug i have encounter that is an issue because ATC ask you to fly a more than optimal flight level and there is nothing you can do. it sucks after a 2 hours flight to ran out of fuel before landing.
I would like to point out that I was about to run out of fuel quantity. turns out that if you run full mixture the whole time, you will run out. Lesson learned here.
-no night missions with night certification (the is my biggest issue, i love flying at night)
-weather not being displayed correctly on mission view
-(possible bug) no citation vip charter services with the speacialization unlocked.
-insane turbulence in some places (with no warning pre flight)
-speeding during taxi with no indication of speed
(possible bug) looks like no a320/321 or a330 with the airline pilot certification, not sure if this is on purpose or a glitch.
not a bug but a request is some form of filter for missions so it doesnt get filled up with 172 missions when im jet-engine rated.
im enjoying playing with the game as is however would make it 10/10 if these things were fixed.
on a positive im so glad you can use sim speed to speed up flights to get full credits, however its a bit unstable at times…
Found another one. The game will tell you to fly over the white house/associated restricted airspace, then give you a penalty for it. For someone that’s not american, knowing when you are going to fly over something like this is impossible unless you are analysing each flight plan in detail.
One correction though. For the skydiving missions, adjust your mixture with your C172 to avoid struggling around 9k feet. I had no issue after that to reach 10k feet for the drop.
My best tips is to wait for a better plane to do it (e.g Caravan). You will go up there much much faster for the same amount of credits.
Yeah, you can adjust your mixture, but like you said its basically impossible to do the climb in the time required flying the C172. The other issue is that the economy is quite grindy, just to get a caravan its over 1 million credits, and even with your own company, thats like 5 hours straight grinding.
I found a lot of bugs regarding VIP Charter services. Even if you 100% follow the FPL and gonna do the smoothest landing in your virtual career they still gonna give you an airline procedures score of 30%.
Same thing with cargo missions. Airline procedures score seems too random for me.
And regarding long haul (2h+) medium cargo missions: sometimes game gives you missions with not enough fuel in your airplane even to fly to your destination. And there is no legitimate way to fuel up (tried with EFB menus, got nothing).
I just finished the first parachute jump mission and did not see the jumpers in the plane. Tried reload and still no succes. Well anyway i got my money (most important in the world)
Since the 172 is so common, people should be aware that the fuel selector defaults to the left tank and should be set to ‘both’ when starting every flight.
