Live traffic for MSFS2020

Does anyone know how or where I can get live traffic real flights etc for MSFS2020?

Assuming you’re on PC, search for Aerosofts Simple Traffic or you could wait for something called FS Traffic which is due for release really soon, or might even released now, not sure but it should be close. You can turn on live traffic in the traffic section in the sims options or is this not what you want?

Allot of us are using AIG.

Not free though not expensive either:

Live traffic is available through the MSFS general options menu.

I dont get why anyone would prefer aerosoft simple traffic over AIG its like superior in every aspect and it is also FREE

AIG

  1. Complicated Setup
  2. Complicated Setup
  3. Complicated Setup
  4. Not Live
  5. Resource intensive
  6. Huge & complex download involved for airline liveries

Simple Traffic

  1. Uses default AI (not perfect, but benefits from every default enhancement)
  2. Simple to install
  3. Uses Live traffic (ok, cut back density that ingame sim uses)
  4. relatively cheap for what it does and is small enough to install quickly at just over 1GB (AIG another story completely size wise)
  5. Uses real world schedules to populate the airport with relevant liveries.
  6. It’s a ‘fire and forget’ add on. Spend more time flying!

Because ST does several things really well:

It overlays real liveries onto existing MSFS Traffic.
It doesn’t require managing and caring for external programs in order to generate proper traffic routes and volumes.
Because it’s using Sim stock Traffic, there is no FPS hit due to models, etc.
If you use Offline, it generates a historic Pre-Pandemic set of routes and carriers which holds up quite nicely no matter where I’ve flown - and I’ve used it in most regions.
At 30 percent Offline Traffic settings, you will have TONs of traffic around you in an 80 NM radius

And most importantly, installing is literally One-Click using the Aerosoft One Utility.

This product has paid for itself many times over in the last several hundred sim hours I’ve flown.

I also use ST in ‘live traffic’ mode. Although not recommended it seems to do the job quite well with many localised liveries showing up. You do get the occasional Easyjet in San Francisco etc but overall quite good in Live Mode. I just have ‘static traffic’ set to 20 or so for some gate static traffic otherwise the airports look empty until live traffic shows up. This is why they recommend using AI Offline mode for ST but honestly live traffic mode works well too.

Yep, it’s default sim behavior unfortunately. If the ICAO doesn’t match any available ST liveries, the sim will just randomly assign one. I’ve seen that happen a few times. That requires a revamp of the underlying traffic logic.

Live is nice because it really doesn’t hammer system performance at all. But to your point, lonely gates. :grinning:

The lonely gates just need static traffic to look better though. Again they populate with real world regional liveries quite well. If you are the type of person who instead of flying you just like to hanging around in sim airports wondering why some aircraft never depart then fair do’s, but it works for me as I don’t hang around that long.

Live traffic after SU8 is much better now they added departing traffic back in. I’ve had two straight days of lining up in EBBR behind (somtimes as many as 5) live traffic aircraft before takeoff. It’s very nice. Just wish they would improve the base models a bit (I hate the pointy nosed low poly default AI aircraft. I also hate how they pirouette in circles at times, but that’s another story!

Yep, I was so happy being No. 3 for departure at KBOS and we had both 22L and 22R in use behind some Jetblues and an a Delta.

I watched the amazing UFO move - this was back in SU5/6 - over Long Island Sound just past Groton - the airliner stopped in mid-air, did a Michael Jordan 360, then pointed up at an incredible 85 degrees nose high, then decided, nah forget JFK, we’re headed to upstate NY. I was so astounded, I lost 2,000’ (was handflying) before I realized it. LOL.

I do wonder if perhaps the live data feeds are the issue sometimes. Even on Flightradar 24 (which the sim doesn’t use) you can get aircraft that just pause then suddenly either speed up drastically or disappear completely. Very often on the ground before or after landing. I guess live tracking isn’t completely foolproof either.

I suspect that’s ADS-B shenanigans. That’s also why some a/c disappear after landing, because they’ll shut off their transponders. A lot of blame is put on the sim, but in real life, data is absolutely imperfect, and so that shows up here.

What else is out there besides AIG thats free? Also AIG the stable version says offline they only have the beta?

I believe its because there is no suitable parking that planes sometimes just disappear after landing.

There’s that too.

Its very expensive, 180 bucks for a year to have some AI in a sim is ludicrous in my opinion.
