Live weather accuracy significantly degraded in SU7

I was really hopefully that the introduction of blending METAR data with Meteoblue would see the weather system go even stronger, but from what I am seeing, it’s probably the worse depiction of weather I have seen since the titles release.

Cloud coverage in particularly seems to be very off, even when the airport has a working METAR, see below the example of Bristol that is reporting overcast clouds yet showing nothing like this in the sim:

I hope this is just an initial bug with the server, if not then I think we have taken a massive step back here with weather depiction.

Another example, LFLB:

EGSS

At KEAT it seemed to be fairly correct almost all day. Although when it started snowing it never showed in the sim, even though AWOS was indicating it.

Ahh okay. As you can see from above the airports I’ve just tried now, it is completely wrong, even though they even report OVC in their METAR.

In real life it looks like it is matching ?? No thick overcast in the places you say ( bristol could be though … on the edge

Nope it’s not matching at all, lots of overcast cloud around, plus as I say it’s even reported in the METAR:

Yeah u are correct … flightradar shows overcast also

Lets hopenits just server overload … things tend to stabalize after a few days with previous patches. Not sure how thos can stabalize though …. But clinging to every piece of hope after EVER update !!!

Really hoping it’s just a bug server side, otherwise this is a massive step in the wrong direction for weather accuracy :frowning:

I see the METAR says overcast on a couple of those airports. Seems something is a miss. Are you in that region and can confirm the accuracy of the METAR?

I’m not in the region, but I’ve tested several airports now around Europe and compared with the live satellite imagery (see above) and there is definitely something amiss here. I’m guessing a bug in the data server side maybe.

Yeah sounds like it. If you’re not too far away you can also call the airports ATIS/AWOS and listen to the broadcast to know first hand what it is reporting and compare. I did that earlier with my airport and it was a lot closer than I would have ever assumed.

Even testing where I live at my local airport, the weather depiction there is incorrect in terms of cloud coverage and height.

Currently on EHAM

Flightradar

REAL

SIGH

-EDIT-
Metar is different ??? flightradar ICON shows overcast … but the real METAR shows broken … real life is OVERCAST … so even real life metar is broken :joy::joy:

Yep same story in Amsterdam too:

I have submitted a Zendesk report, which I would recommend anyone to do that is also experiencing this.

I’ve also PMd a moderator who I’ve messaged quite extensively with live weather bugs in previous versions of the sim, so hopefully he will bring it to their attention as well.

Check my edit …. Even real life METAR is wrong

Says broken .. despite overcast
However the flight radar condition icon does say overcast

Weird stuff

The weather servers went down. That was the issue as I understand it. The metar, although not prefect, was much improved in beta.

Not necessarily wrong, a lot of UK and EU METARs only report clouds up to 5,000ft, this means it could be overcast at 5100ft and wouldn’t get reported in the METAR. This has always been a huge disadvantage with METAR based weather addons in sims. METOBLUE overcame this because it had cloud data about the upper levels.

Right now though, I’ve no idea what we’re seeing. The METAR data was meant to blend with Metoblue data, I’m still convinced what I’m seeing in the sim now is totally wrong and a bug.

All the airports i have tried this morning around Europe have sadly shown weather depiction that is not accurate at all. I can only hope there is some bug still going on server side.
