This is the most annoying defect, there are times when I literally lose hours of time just trying to start the sim. Absolutely unacceptable, especially two months after the initial launch.

I cannot upvote this bug report enough. Please, Asobo, pretty please.

ā€¢ Yes.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
ā€¢ The loading time is long compared to XBox version (which I run on the same network as my PC version btw). Loading process often gets stuck at 68%. CPU utilization is maxed out, while network traffic is minimal.

I (and many others) have done all of these, and more besides. Whether it loads is as much chance, as doing a particular step (do see the extensive comments in the thread I linked to).

Every now and then, I think a step has worked (so I was clearing the streamed stuff folder before every launchā€¦), but they generally work a couple of times, and then not againā€¦

I havenā€™t deleted my cloud save as Iā€™m not having any of the issues associated with that:

"If you are experiencing issues with your Avatar or your sim is crashing when you are creating your avatar, please delete your cloud save. This should resolve the issue.

We have also seen that if you are having graphics glitches such as your avatar spawning inside buildings or inside the tarmac when you load to the airport, deleting your cloud save can resolve these issues as well."

Interestingly, if my load ever crashes before it starts (i.e. CTD) and Iā€™m asked to do ā€˜safe modeā€™, it seems to always load (and quicker than at any other time). However, the stuff it purports to disable is stuff I donā€™t have (my community folder is empty), so there shouldnā€™t be much/any difference. Of course, this could just be luck, again, but if you could make ā€˜safe-modeā€™ available as a general start option, I could test thisā€¦

In my case, safe mode wonā€™t always work either, nor do any of the proposed workarounds. The only process that seems to work (but alas not always) is to uninstall and reinstall.

Iā€™ve contacted our Customer Support team who have given some further steps that may help you to resolve the loading issues:

  1. Synchronize your Time and Region settings.
Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and select Settings.

Select Date & Time and toggle the ā€œSet time automatically setting" and ā€œSet time zone automaticallyā€ to ON.

Click on Synchronize your clock to synchronize your systemā€™s clock with an Internet time server.

Then click Region, and double-check that your country or region is correctly set up (for example if you live in Canada, make sure that the region didnā€™t switch to USA or vice-versa)

  1. Move your installation folder
If you have installed your sim to other drive than your C:\ drive, try and move/reinstall it to your C:\ drive. We have received reports that this has resolved the issue for some users.

  2. Remove certificates that have non-English letters on them, such as: ā€˜Å”ā€™ ā€˜Ä‡ā€™ ā€˜Äā€™ How to Remove Certificates from Windows 11: A Step-by-Step Guide - Support Your Tech) How to Remove a Certificate from Windows 10: A Step-by-Step Guide - Support Your Tech

  3. Uninstall the Google Maps mod

We have also received reports that if you ever used Google Mod in MSFS2020, it can cause loading issues in MSFS2024. If you are experiencing loading issues, we highly recommend checking to see if this mod is still making changes on your PC.

Use the windows search bar and search for Notepad. Right-click and select Run as Administrator.
In Notepad, go to File > Open and then navigate to Windows (C:), Windows, System32, drivers, etc
and open the host file.
Get rid of:
127.0.0.1 kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net
127.0.0.1 khstorelive.azureedge.net
Save and exit

Warning: we do not recommend using any streamed map data add-on to replace Bing maps.

I understand that some of these steps may not be applicable if you havenā€™t ever used a map enhancement mod, however hopefully these further steps will resolve the loading issues youā€™re experiencing!

Thanks

Thanks, but Iā€™ve tried all of these already (and havenā€™t used the google maps mod). As far as I can see, I donā€™t have any non-english character certificates.

Moving my install to the default ā€˜Cā€™ location, as other fixes did, seemed to work at firstā€¦then it didnā€™t any more!

None of these solutions work. Please check the page Stuck at 68% MSFS2024 (PC) - #91 by FG91X, in which many others and me discuss all the workaround we tried.

Those two conditions you mention here are solutions for a particular issue.
Deleting your cloud save does more than that.
It removes your controls setup and other saved items, any of which ā€œcouldā€
be causing your issue.

You may need to reset your cloud save to fix a variety of issues caused by corrupted saves or profiles. Try deleting your cloud save if you are stuck on the loading screen or crashing after clicking ā€œPlayā€. You can also reset the logbook to 0 hours if you want to start your game over from scratch.

I noticed in another post that someone had enabled a console/log (using developer mode?). Perhaps this would be useful to find out where weā€™re all getting stuck? Please advise!

Iā€™m willing to try pretty much anything ( I mean, within reason!), so will give it a goā€¦Iā€™ll report back.

Update after clearing cloud save. Next load caused a CTD at about 19% :joy:

Cheers

Now loading via safe mode. As usual, video is jerky initially (fps is quite up and downā€¦) but it get to 13% much quicker in safe mode (itā€™s when the fps takes a hit that the progress percentage actually moves on!).

It then flys through loading sim objects (like 5-10 times quicker in safe mode at a guess)

And now itā€™s a CTD again (51% this time). Time for a reboot me thinks!

Iā€™m still unsure what this thing is doing on load. Neither my disk drive or the network do much at allā€¦ Just CPU/GPU

Next load after rebootā€¦ Stuck at video and spinning wheelā€¦ No percentage shown. Didnā€™t ask me to go into safe mode, even though last load was CTD (itā€™s usually much more consistent at just sticking at 68% than this!)

Next attemptā€¦ Stuck at 68%. Only thing the drive is doing is reading the pressstartvideo-4k.mp4 (2-3 MB per second).

According to resource monitor, flightsim.exe is waiting for anither process (svchost.exe LocalServiceAndNoImpersonation - p)

After going through many previous workarounds that donā€™t help any longer (network off/on, disable IPV6, cache file cleanup, complete sim reinstall) I report some success with the (for me new) workaround of deleting all StreamedPackages every single time before starting the sim
the Activating packages phase is still very slow, but at least it loads the game
really hope others get in with this mehod

As far as I can tell from a bit of searching, the game is waiting for the windows applocker serviceā€¦ Can anyone from support shed any light on this?

Others with the bug, can you check if your getting stuck waiting on the same thing (itā€™s in the resource manager in Windows).

Itā€™s probably the servers again, I am running 2020 and got the sound stuttering problems back today which happened a couple of weeks back when the who of 2020 and 2024 was broken with a server issueā€¦
