I don’t have fiber but nevertheless, what is MSFS loading for 6 minutes before it even knows where I’m going? A bit of user input is required before loading plane and scenery data.
Yeah, I have to say I find this (almost) unusable.
For me loading takes about 50mins to reach 50%, then surprisingly only 5-10 mins to complete after that, but worse than the hour or so it takes to load is the 100% CPU usage, which completely cripples my system!
I can’t brows or do anything else till it finishes loading. Simply changing tabs in my browser often takes a minute or so to change, and when the tab finally switches, often the tab shows an “unreachable” error nodoubt due to a timeout, even if it had loaded beforehand. This makes it all but impossible to even check email or anything before the sim is ready, rendering my system completely unusable for the hour or so.
Admittedly my system is rather old now [i5-7600K CPU, 1070 video card and 16 GB of RAM] but the sim itself actually runs fine. I have low quality settings and all that but the sim itself is perfectly playable (and I can still look things up and brows forums) with the game loaded, it’s just the actual loading that kills my PC for the hour beforehand that really does make it intolerable.
I have the same issue. The game loaded within 4mins for the first day… Now it’s stuck on 90% EVERY time I try to load in. Speed tests show no problem, I can download and play other games at high speed. This is a problem only with this game.
I experience exact same thing - during loading, which can take from 15 minutes up to 1 hour or longer at which point I just kill the app, the CPU is at 100% (all cores maxed out) - I also have pretty old CPU (i5 6600K) but I upgraded my GPU to RTX4060 and the game runs fine on mix of medium/high settings after it actually loads. It surely looks and runs better on PC than on my XBOX Series X - the only drawback is the loading time - on the console it loads in 2-3 minutes. But when it finally loads on PC into the main menu it’s pretty solid, on console it seems the longer I play it degrades stability. After few flights the game will just bugs out someway (random crash to dashboard, can’t get into a flight etc.). On PC I could play for hours without any issues.
They need to rework the way you get into the game, because it seems really broken - if you look at task manager and resource monitor you will see that the Flight Simulator.exe is maxing out the CPU while there are several requests awaiting response from the Microsoft servers. Why is the CPU working so much during this time is baffling. Either the programmers have no idea what are they doing (using libraries that they don’t understand fully - a sign of bad implementation), or maybe they are using our CPUs to just mine bitcoin, who knows at this point? (yes I lnow GPU would be more suitable - it’s only a joke of a frustrated player). And spare me the workarounds with clearing hosts file, syncing time, reinstalling, disabling newtork connection etc. I tried them all. They can be placebo effects because even if I don’t do anything the game sometimes loads and sometimes doesn’t.
Nvidia filter switched on ? - I have noticed that these increase the loading times immensely (in addition to the FPS limiter, as I have already reported) - I only switch these on in the menu and also the FPS limiter from River Tuner. This means I have short loading times and can use everything as usual afterwards.
So FPS limiter off and no filter NVIDA/Reshade and I gain almost 2 - 3 minutes!
Only as a workaround, if necessary!
My workaround to the 100% CPU utilization during loading is to just limit cores for the FlightSimulator.exe → while the game is loading open Task Manager, go to Details tab, look for FlightSimulator.exe, right click → Set Affinity and untick few cores (I have 4 cores so I leave only last 2 cores ticked). That way the game is still loading, but my CPU is not bogged down, so I can do other tasks while it loads. After I get to the main menu I just enable all the cores for FlightSimulator.exe.
I have been hearing its a server problem, but as a former IT Sys admin, servers don’t take long to resolve a traffic issue. Long story short, my issue was it will stick for 10 seconds at 90% then crawl very slowly, after coming back an hour its still at 97%.
What worked for me was renaming the community folder to community.old, relaunch the sim which it will create another community folder. No more delay time, it goes into the main menu less that 2 to 3 mins.
Suggest moving over mods, planes from the old community folder to rule out which mod could be affecting the load time.
Still having issues, but it seems really hit or miss - sometimes it’ll take a few minutes, sometimes I’ll give up after half an hour of sitting at 10-15% and play something else. I’ve got no DLC installed or anything that might be tripping it up, but it’s getting to the point I’m considering uninstalling it…
loading time on the carreer is terrible just get a circle going round and round some times take above 10 mins to load a carreer some times i just give up
