it lags so bad whenever you open it or try to browse it

Secondly, it doesn’t always record takeoffs and landings.

There are a couple of existing bug reports that are slightly different one from the other but all related to not logging in he correct flight data. Check in that list the ones that could apply:

It would be much better if a logbook entry was created at the point of landing to allow multiple logbook entries per session for those doing multiple legs in one session

There is an existing wish:

Logbook record flight segments

Would be really great if the logbook could record the flight segments of a multi segment flight. For example if I fly from airport A to airport B and then fly to airport C the logbook only records one takeoff and one landing and only airport A to airport C with no mention of Airport B. It would be better in my opinion that each take off (or departure origin) and landing be recorded as a flight.
