Looking for Updates black screen blue bar stuck

Sorry but being french and old I’ve some difficulties to cope with your explanations. I’ve re installed also and (As usual after a full reinstallation) MSFS is working again.

My installation is on my C SSD drive where Windows is located. I think that it’s the best way to have it behaving. Next step is that I will try to avoid updating this bloody XBox when prompted and see what happens.

What do you mean by :

  • and MSFS is now thinking about it
  • Win 10 activity Monitor shows…so I guess it’s a SIT on it and wait a few hours ???

Hello…what I meant was the program (MSFS) is searching for “updates” I think it is trying to find an “updated” file that it expects due to a date or other indicator.and ties to incorporate it into it’s system…during this time there is an indicator of progress i.e. blue line so the operator will know that the download is progressing. Back in the days when I did some programming we called this problem an “endless loop”. Once the file is accessed and downloading it continues forever unless there is a time or operations limit by the program. Most responsible programs will indicate with an error message at some point "unable to locate/download file X which at least gives you somewhere to look for the error/roadblock.
Unfortunately no one at either Microsoft or X-Box will reply with exactly what MSFS is trying to download. maddening at the least. On my system I have not had any recurrent problems so far. I did allow X-Box to update and have since purchased the new Aerosoft CRJ add-on ($50) and have not had any problems.

Yep. That’s it exactly. Can anything be done?

The only thing I can think of is to continue to complain and post comments to try and get Microsoft to respond. I’m considering leaving Youtibe comments on those sites that post videos promoting MSFS. Perhaps if there is some public negative publicity about MSFS the company will be more forthcoming.

Well after a full reinstallation a couple of weeks ago I’m back to the problem of stucked loading and black screen. It seems once more that the jokers have been cheating with the XBox live and once more have screwed the sim.
Could fly without any problem over the last 2 weeks whatever the aircraft WT CJ4 or Aerosoft CRJ or Cessna 152 of ASOBO. Did not fly only yesterday and tonight when trying to start the sim got the black screen again after the update check. I’m defintily upset with all this mess since I did not change anything to the sim of course.

Whatever Zendesk or XBox team they don’t give a ■■■■ to this problem and I don’t know how to manage to have them caring at least a bit for their clients. Any idea or action we could operate ?

Hi. So far I haven’t had any new issues I allowed X-Box to update thru Microsoft. I wonder if you use any programs like “Avast Clean-up” or “Acronis True Image” both of which I have heard have had problems with MSFS?

You’re right I’m using Avast Clean Up but my MSFS is declared as an exception into Avast. To be honest I did not really check if the problem with MSFS was happening after an Avast cleaning. Will take care of it but MSFS being excluded from Avast check it should not the source of the problem. Unless Clean Up being a separate apps would not take it into consideration. I will look at it more carefully. Thks a lot for your answer to my post.

Now when you that you did not have any NEW issues I would say that it’s exactly what I said myself during a couple of weeks after a full reinstallation but in the end the problem was back again. So I still don’t know what to think about it. XBox or Avast, that is the question… I guess.

Happy fly

I suspected Avast after reading an online comment so I have not used it since. I have updated MSFS twice since and have not had any new problems. I also updatged X-Box using their automated uppdater without any issues. So at least at this point hopefully this will be a permanent solution. I have yet to contact AVAST to ask for a refund and point out the problem to them. Good Luck.

I own Avast, but I disabled all the useless stuff which should per se not be contained within a Anti-Vir-tool. Additional more worst are these additional tools like a “Clean Up - make PC faster” thing offered in the Anti-Vir-App to buy. But this is not only Avast, simple all of these Anti-Vir tool creators offer such useless stuff… useless tools which cost money and cause in worst case some trouble and bring zero benefitt.

But anyway… I not heard about that the additional “Avast Clean Up Tool” remove some files from MSFS and @ReverentGlint71 already added MSFS into the runtime-check-exclusion list ( as said: this are two different things ). But who knows, … if issue happens after such a clean-up was running…
But may be the issue is another one, e.g strange network constellations where somewhat with the cloud-sync goes wrong ( big guess ). At least somewhat must be special so often it happens in your case.

PS.: Acronis True Image is a backup tool

As you said Acronis True Image is a backup/mirror tool which works very well. I believe it also makes changes to your registry files which in some way interferes with MSFS during it’s update routine. I’ve read others comments that this particular program and others interfere with MSFS so I’ve not used it since. I suppose some of these comments are guesses but since Microsoft/X-Box haven’t commented or offered any guidance seems like we’re left with suppositions. I would like to discover exactly what/where the program is looking for updates…

Don’t know what acronis true image should have to do with MSFS… I simple start these tool if it is time to create a full backup. I not use auto-backup features ( where I then want play in the time where the tool do the backup ) and I also not use other so called “add-ons” from it, just same as for these "best-of-must-have-addons "from the anti-virus tools

If users have configured its Backup-Tool ( which one ever ), that it do a Backup while MSFS is running, they don’t be confused if the performance drops ( or others strange things happen ).

I agree all of this is a big mystery not the least is the lack of response from the developer. Back in the day (1970s) when I did some programming we always used GOTO/GOSUB routines which generated and printed an error message with the line number and error code and a limiting code to prevent endless loops. At some point I would like to find out exactly what MSFS is looking for when it generates the message “looking for updates”. In the meantime so far so good here. I have not used Acronis or Avast and have had no recent problems. Gone thru the last 2 updates successfuly.

HI was away for a while. I really think that AVAST is not the responsible of this problem. I’m still using it (Having excluded MSFS from its control) and my sim is behaving perfectly…since a new full reinstallation after the last update of XBox live. So for me it’s obvious that everytime XBox is updated there’s something wrong happening to MSFS. However at the moment, everything’s going well. Let’s wait for the next XBox update in order to confirm if it is the source of the problem actually.

AVAST CLEANUP!!!

After almost a year, I have finally found a solution to the blue bar/black loading screen issue. I got rid of AVAST cleanup, reinstalled fs2020 and so far, i have had no issues for the last 3 months. I have uninstalled and reinstalled fs2020 at least a dozen times prior to this hoping to fix the problem, and every time it would appear to work but only for a few days, or maybe a week or two if I was lucky before the problem would show up again. Getting rid of AVAST cleanup, seems to have fixed my issue, so I am now convinced that it was AVAST cleanup that was responsible for the issue. If you are suffering from this bug like I was, and you currently have AVAST cleanup, get rid of it, reinstall fs2020 and see if it helps you like it did for me.

I agree 100%. I had the exact same issue for several months. Once I disabled Avast Clean-up the problems has not reoccurred. Trying to get a hold of Microsoft or X-Box for help was a total waste of time!!!

yep… as former mentioned… I disable 95% of these bloodware coming with Avast and thus I had never an issue, but still a good protection. I can only recommend to disable all that useless tools/bloodware which comes with Avast and/or each other so called Anti-Virus-“Suite”'s. What users need is a good Anti-Vir-Protection, may be with Browser and Mail-Check and nothing else… No own own firewall, no sandboxes, no real sites, no extra remote protection, nothing with clean-up in name , also no auto software updater, performance optimizer, passwort tools, document protection… nothing from that useless things.

These companies want only justify the extrem overpriced products with this additional stuff and suggest that "you need it " . What happens is very often nothing else as trouble and these kind of trouble where you need a long time to find out that it was the d…n Anti-Vir-Suite.
