M3 - Free Multiplayer Model Matching Utility - Now available!

the most confusing part is how to format the path correctly.

Basically, you have to make sure that you copy and paste slash dot dot slash dot dot slash

(the forum will not let me actually type those characters for some reason)

before the name of the sim object

instead of using your windows explorer path to the local file.

The flightsim.to page for this addon is where the dev is answering support questions, so that is definitely the place to go for help.

We’ll have a tutorial video online soon to explain the process for adding target aircraft.

That’s awesome! The PMDG 737 uses several texture folders and so on, and I think also dont have its own effects folder. So it could maybe be a good example to use.

One example could be from Bredok3D 737M to PMDG 737-800 (which is one of the aircraft I really would want to change as it shows up as a Bonanza on my end)

@flyndive

What happens if a new target aircraft you are trying to add does not have an effects folder? Can I leave it blank or does not mean it can’t be used?

The effects folder is optional. You can leave it blank.

Here’s a detailed tutorial video for using M3: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/2ffmNnPpRfw

Good to know.

I used M3 on a Community Fly-In event for the first time, and was impressed.

There were a lot of Warbirds on the Fly-In that got matched to the EXTRA 330LT, so one of the things I decided to try was to add the Freeware Hawker Hurricane as a target aircraft and try and match all the Warbirds to that plane. I went through the instructions and generated a new package.

Next time I fly on-line, I’ll see if my attempt was successful.

I guess the most important thing is I need to remember to put the Hurricane in my Community folder. I use AddOn Linker, so I’m afraid if I forget to link it, bad things will happen when it tries to match…

Is this correct or is something wrong with my ICAO?

You’re good here. Just hit continue and carry on. If you want to override the default aircraft shown, then click the checkbox. You would check the box if you want to force the override (such as making aircraft look like something other than default matched aircraft). For example, making all aircraft look like a Bell 407.

Are there any plans to find a different way to distribute profiles/targets? Currently it seems these are updated with each release.

Perhaps a GitHub repo or similar could be setup where others can submit pull requests?

The issue at the moment is we need to know what aircraft we well encounter which is not possible in advance.

Maybe down the line some kind of API could be used to pull down the latest profiles/targets and/or allow submissions for unknown aircraft?

Kind of see this like a community aircraft recognition service

When I’m flying, I run a modified nameplate utility that captures ICAOs from all aircraft in range. It counts the frequency of ICAOs as well, so new aircraft that I haven’t seen before are easy to identify. These are then added to our list for our next release. Of course, anyone can add a new ICAO if they see something in game. I do get your point about making these known before we roll them into a release. I’ll look into the GitHub repository idea..

Great stuff, I’ll look out for it.

Do you mind sharing what tool you use to collect the nameplates? I didn’t think this was a function as part of the SDK for multiplayer aircraft.

Unfortunately, its a mod of a tool that a Shadow Display team member created. I asked for permission to modify it for my own personal use, and stated I wouldn’t share it.

A doubt. Are these updates cumulative? That is, the last one has everything above?
Or do we have to download each one of them and update?
Thank You
