Make Cloud Streaming Optional -MSFS 2024

Yesterday when I was in the sim I saw spikes as high as 600mbits/s and the sim was still struggling to load in scenery. This was on final approach into denver

I applaud the effort by Asobo/MS to try to make it work, but I can’t see this happening yet. Also I don’t think it works well for the sustainability/profitablity of the platform. I’d like to have it 100% work off-line as well.

I ended up refunding until the issues get solved, it’s completely unusable for my case, what we had with 2020 was a step in the right direction. I hope they can give us both options.

Somehow my different wish was merged into this one, instead of the other way around, which is super dissapointing. They were very seperate wishes.

This thread is about abandoning streaming all together, which I think is crazy. I was actually wishing for a balanced approach, where while things are loading we are able to do things. Pity you cannot probably now ā€œunmergeā€ my idea :frowning:

You will be able to do that. I’m thinking they poorly explained this and hope that they address it because a lot of people (myself included) thought they meant everything would have to be streamed. But you’ll have the option of installing content or streaming it and and pick and choose what you’d like to do. So you can have some installed and some streamed working together as well.

Planes and custom airports eventually indeed, but that leaves a lot of other stuff in the base install that still has to come down a pipe, that’s locally stored in 2020, that hasn’t been mentioned.

Can’t imagine it’s that much of a stretch to offer it, but maybe it’s only been programmed to allow downloads that are present in the marketplace.

They should definitely explain what of the base items are streamed vs not. I’m not on PC so I don’t have insight into that in a folder, but there is a lot of scenery and other things available in the Library that we’ll be able to install as well. Would be nice to know the items we can’t touch in that screen.

In its present state not becoming a big fan of this streaming idea…

I have very good internet speed…downloaded MSFS 2024 today (Pre-ordered Aviators edition) also had premium deluxe MSFS.

I Loaded the sim up just now only had 20 aircraft showing…restarted sim this time using VPN U.S…over 50 Aircraft were available .I am U.K based.

Turned off VPN back to only 10 Aircraft available…

Agreed with the OP - There should be an option to run this thing fully offline. I don’t expect it will happen but…it would be nice and perhaps help with server congestion

Without a doubt best practice is to give the user choice, over how much is downloaded and how much is streamed.

However that requires a fixed target, where say half is downloaded today and the rest streamed tomorrow.

If the sim version changes overnight, then the sim can collapse and fail.

The downloaded bit would have to downloaded again, to match the new streaming.

So Asobo have to have fixed code versions that last at least a week or two or longer.

If the version changes daily the benifit of downloading is lost. Therefore the version should change as little as possible to gain maximum benifit.

In reality there will be a sweet spot we can all live with…like the AIRAC cycle.

I’m sorry your thread was merged with this one. But I can assure you this thread is not about eliminating streaming altogether, but rather having the choice to choose what can be streamed versus downloaded which will differ from person to person.

For example, if you want to stream the Midwest but download the east coast you should have the option to do so. If someone wants to download the entire UK but stream South America then they should have that choice as well. If I want to stream some planes and download others then I should be allowed to do so, etc.

The best fix would be able to download the sim. Relying on streaming to fly, you your control settings and using an aircraft is not working. All it is doing is frustrating customers.

I’d definitely prefer to keep the sim locally like 2020.

AMEN!!! I would much rather download the full 150GB of data and have to do occasional updates - and for people that wish to have everything on cloud let them have that option!

The original post did say make it optional so people have a choice.

I think it will be an option for sure after such a poor launch and seeing the down side with everything on a cloud - they will look to have option to download everything.

I’m headed back to 2020 until we are provided a downloadable link for the game on PC. Streaming is not a valid solution for the amount of flight loving friends we have here with your product. I look forward to the day when I don’t have to wait over 30 minutes and then half-way into the game it crashes!!! Keep my money fix our problem- please.

Well we sort of had that with the World Updates. I usually uninstall the ones I don’t fly in currently.

The key part, freedom of choice :). I am also sticking with 2020 for now but that is mostly because I want to fly the 380 and I am not sure if it works in 2024 yet.

Well the 757 will be for 2020 upon release, so I’m definitely sticking with 2020, but I will miss the A350 which will hopefully be out Christmas time… I hope 2024 is in a somewhat stable state by then, because I would buy it just for the 330 and 350.
