Mandatory Updates Unethical

I have been using FS2020 for years and the experience has been very satisfactory. So why, out of the blue, do I have to perform mandatory multi-megabyte updates for something that works well anyway?

I am given no choice, update or be locked out of the sim. And no reason is provided!

This is a form of blackmail and I find it objectionable. Why cannot upgrades be optional?

I suspect you just ran into the monthly NavData update, nothing nefarious to see here.

If you’ve been using 2020 for years, then mandatory updates will not be a new thing. They’ve been doing that since day 1.

I think you may be a bit confused. The updates are not mandatory. You have the option to stop using Flight Simulator at anytime. What I find ironic is that some is crying about update while at the same time wanting thing fixed.

World/City updates are not mandatory.
Sim Updates (once a year now for FS2020) & monthly AIRAC updates are mandatory.

I do believe we should be given the choice if we choose to update or not. After we have paid for a license of the game. Especially if updates make things worse which in my experience I know this can happen

That would be entirely impractical for many reasons. Addon compatibility and product support would be infinitely more difficult if anyone could use any of the dozens of versions of the sim at the same time. And that doesn’t even begin to touch on the server-side elements of the sim that require everyone to be on the same build.

No updates may mean that you can no longer fly the simulator due in incompatibilities…FWIW

Because it’s an Online Live Service game where everything needs to be on the same page for everyone. If you want offline with optional updates you gotta use P3D or X-Plane.
