City Update 10 - United States 4: Dallas & Fort Worth, Denver, Honolulu, San Francisco. Planned for April
Dallas! Wowā¦its about time! and Honolulu. and a new San Fran and I guess we didnāt have Denver yet? I hope all that is soon - very soon.
And also I really hope the LOD and memory improvements do a great deal of good for us on X Box.
Also - what the f on the countryside TIN? originally it was āeventually all of North and South Americaā and now its ā100 or so and weāll add them piecemealāā¦wellā¦better than nothing but itād be nice to know what was in and what wasnāt.
I donāt remember that has ever been promised. I think heād originally said he would try to get most national parks in North America and that theyād probably also get something for Europe.
Jorg doesnāt ever really promise anything. He just has high hopes and wants.
Turns out you are partially correct as he never mentioned South America:
but, as he mentioned today, sometimes the countryside TIN data isnāt as good as old fashioned DEM so Iām sure theyāll make good calls. Iāve been seeing more and more obvious new imagery in 2024 thats really sharp and high res. Its ridiculous though because I still think it should be better now that Iāve seen good quality PG.
I found this livestream rather lacklustre. Apart from filling in a few of the timescales, I didnāt finish up with any great feeling of moving forward. VRAM for example - the only advance on that topic was a small improvement for those using ray-tracing, so I donāt really expect that to be fixed in SU2.
The best news for me actually came a day before the livestream - I am now able to download the Aviator edition aircraft in FS2020, so at least I ended up with some benefit from my purchase of FS2024.
So what interested me around this was exactly what was not said: Last monthās livestream suggested that asset optimization was more of a problem than any VRAM bug, at least that was how I heard it. With that in mind, I was listening to see what they would say about bug number one, which was not much. My sense is that since they are optimizing all the first party assets, that they expect bug number one to go away over time. I could be wrong about that supposition but since they didnāt produce a smoking gun for SU2 (which they said last month was ready to go) to polish off, may it just be the way users interpret the results of non/poorly optimized stuff, as a VRAM leak? SU2 is right around the corner, so we will find out soon enough. Meanwhile, I am having a great deal of fun flying whatever works for me in 24, and the rest in 2020. Cheers!
I think it was a really good stream. Lots of questions were asked and answered. SU1 was a step in the right direction and seems SU2 will be even better.
Glad to see Aircraft like Embraer Praetor & Heatblur F-4 coming in too. F-4 is an insta buy for me.
SU2 in April is actually sooner than I thought. I thought Beta branches would start in April with final release in June.
Jorg was pretty clear from the first MSFS2024 stream that the launch was a catastrophe. He still seems very enthusiastic about this project and whatās eventually coming in for us. Thereās clearly passion there. I honestly respect them going to Bat answering pre-recorded questions and live Q&A. Keep in mind they also donāt have to do any of this. Thereās not a whole lot of massive franchise developers who are doing what Asobo is doing with the community. So in a way I think weāre lucky to see that kind of communication every month.
I ditched 2020 when 2024 released, first regretting it, still missing stuff I loved (Bush trips) and some weird bugs, poor UI and whatnot. But it does looks quite a bit better, perform better, load faster (on my end)
Thereās also a lot of cool planes coming in from various 3rd Party. (Flying Iron Spitfire remake, Black Square Analog Caravan, FlightFX Stuff.
That game should have been named Microsoft Flight Simulator 12, drop the ā ā ā ā yearly names. release in fall 2025 and avoid this whole mess lol. They learned the hard way.
Also as a big HPG H160 fan. The answer that Jorg said about the current situation (with HPG and H225) is pretty dire. Really doesnāt look good from HPG side of things. Thereās only 1 thing they have to do, make a statement and support your product. If they donāt, I think thatās the end of them.
I downloaded the Western Montana bust trip from flightsim.to. As far as I could tell it was mostly working except there was no narration in that particular trip.
I was also impressed by the dev stream. I didnāt catch all of it live so I listened to it non live. I was surprised Jorg shared as much as he did regarding the situation with HPG. It was clear he was disappointed.
Itās really nice to see Dallas will be included in Aprilās city update. Like Jorg said ā¦yay!
I feel fortunate Jorg is at the wheel. He definitely has passion and the fact he is a real life pilot helps for sure.
I am so looking forward to SU2 beta. Hopefully it will be a nice surprise.
I posted in the Vram bug thread my take on what was and was not said. In short, I believe there is more to it than what was explained regarding Ray Tracing. Weāll know soon enough.
