Take the C172 Steam and Glass.
Basically the same plane, just different cockpit.
C712 Glass (the New plane ) has all its cfg file viewable
C172 Steam (the Older plane) has isn’t cfg file encrypted.
But most of the Manufacturer’s data is the same for both planes.
The only real difference is the MSFS specific parameters for the different cockpits layouts.
So why is it OK to expose the NEW plane, but hide the old plane ???
Does the manufacturer really care about a few MSFS .cfg file ???
I submitted the question to last month’s Dev Q&A, with an elaboration that most of us would be happy to just have the config files unlocked and didn’t need the entire plane decrypted. Once Asobo realized the request wasn’t to make the files piratable, but just able to be modified, they were open and enthusiastic about it. I think the original phrasing’s implication of full decryption was just a no-go.
As for who at the manufacturers would be concerned about the files being fully decrypted, my guess it that it’s not engineers, it’s lawyers, who need to be reassured.
You can remove any plane or scenery using Content Manager.
For example after the next big update I will be removing the F-18 hornet military plane using this method.
Do not remove it using File Explorer. The game will detect its missing and just download it again. Removing from Content Manager ties the process to your account and it remembers.
it has nothing to do with lawyers, manufactures or any thing like that !!! only reason these files are encrypted is because it is an aircraft form premium batch that requires you to pay for it EXTRA $$$$ otherwise it would be easy for premium version owner to share the aircraft with non premium version owner, never mind all these are actually available anyways, but that’s a whole other story.
Point of this thread is to allow interested developers to fix ■■■■■■ premium aircraft and make it to the state that A320 FlyByWire group did with A320 noe.
Again nothing to do with lawyers or any manufacturers BS.
The primary files that need to be available to MOD these planes are the .cfg file, some of which are NOT encoded, while others are.
The other .fsarchive encode files, can still remain encoded, and this alone would force the plane to have to be in Official, and therefore under the MS DRM supervision.,
NOT having the .cfg files encrypted would NOT be a change that would allow these plane to be copies and used by non premium version owners.
Just to add to this I do think whatever is needed should be unencrypted as more and more addons will need this. For example RAAS was just released and that needs to read them to work. GSX will arrive at some point which will need this. Offline atc. Be great to have this especially as you can buy the same software outside of the sim which doesn’t come encrypted. I will buy there until this is resolved but I don’t want to rebuy all the ones I already have. I also like the store as it makes sure everything I have is kept up to date and in one place which helps for a reinstall. Thanks
99% of the time, you will get your updates far quicker, direct from the Developer, or an online store they use, than waiting fro MS to “vet” the update, and make it available through the MS-Store.
This may improve in 2020, but currently, expect to wait WEEKS for updates, that are readily available from the Developer, if you purchased NOT through the MS-Store.
Not to mention, you typically get a detailed receipt from non MS Store purchases, while you do not seem to get anything that actually Proves you purchased a specific item from the MS-Store.
Allow me to correct myself. Yes they are out of date but I don’t have to actively go to the website to check if there is an update. I just login to MSFS and check my content manager so it has potential. Things like orbx central do this well but other apps not so much since you just download the scenery.
The reason for this request is that there are hundreds or dozens of types of users in the simulator.
Some are gamers, some are private pilots, some are flight instructors and there are simulators in flight schools. For each simulator installed, different setup and hardware controls behaves differently and needs certain adjustments in the flight_model.cfg file.
This is something we have always done in previous simulators (FSX, P3D and also Xplane) without a problem
I don’t think there is anything secret in the flight dynamics of the plane that does not allow us to edit it
Please extract flight_model.cfg file outside from .fsarchive file
just like you did with cameras.cfg file
or at least let us to make community changes of flight dynamic of the encrypted aircraft.
there are alot of hardware setups: joysticks, yokes, rudders, home cockpits and many simmers, especially real pilots and flight instructors want to edit and fix unreal flight dynamics that are sometimes present.
these features existed in previous version of MSFS, P3D and also Xplane.
Good flight simulator is not just eye candy.
The power of a good flight simulator is measured by its ability to be a training platform for student pilot.
