Massive FPS drop because of SU9

After 8 hours in the air my fps drops to 1 fps. When I pause the game I got my fps back in the menu. I continue and fps down again. I turned Photogrametry and live traffic off. Before SU9 I had no fps problem at all.

For what it’s worth, I noticed slower frame rates near photogrammetry cities and big slow down landing and parking at airport with this latest update. Have dropped terrain detail down a little to compensate. Hopefully future updates will improve performance.

Seems like clouds weren’t the main culprit after all.

There is actually no difference in performance when I am in the FBW A320 or in the stock Cessna 152.
Suddenly I only have around 27 FPS and tons of stuttering. I really hope the Hotfix improves performance to SU8, or even better, SU7 standards again.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Yes. Same Issue. Huge performance drop in many areas with SU9.
Cleared community folder. Tried multiple planes. Tried different weather settings.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

Limited by Mainthread. Manipulator thread load went up too.
(Sound Device set manually
this is not an issue)
Performance already degraded with SU8. But now its much worse. Before i mainly had issues at EDDF and London City.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Performance is especially terrible in the UK. Even in non-photogrammetry-cities and non custom built airports. In Canada its fine. Before i never had issues in the UK.

Actually, after downloading the latest NVDIA drivers my system seems to be working well again. I would still say there is a FPS drop but at least my sim is usable again. Sometime the simplest fixes can make the difference.

The resemblance with my pictures is striking. Seems like we have the exact same problem.

Seems so. Welcome to the “Limited by the CPU group”.
Which airport is on your pictures?

LOWS. I always use the same location for testing. Lost around 10-15 FPS since SU9.

Its such a terribly optimised game. Cant for the life of me understand why it was built in the way it was.

Good News Everyone:
Same issue there at LOWS
Mainthread and Manipulator thread is abnormally high
which isnt good news at all.

Pathetic performance after SU9 .

Some more:

1st Picture from 13.03.2022 (SU8)
2nd Picture today (SU9)

Same addons (no improvement when removing addons). Same PC.
MainThread and Manipulators are much higher on SU9.

Despite the overall loss of 30% FPS, I also have those weird stutters where my performance suddenly completely tanks. It affects Mainthread and GPU the same time. In addition, if I turn on some clouds the sim is pretty much unflyable.

Hi Tweak112, to see the full situation, you must also see what is happening disk and network usages. Here you can see it in my screenshot. I used the CTRL-ALT-DEL Task manager in compact view graphs, which you can get to run ‘always on top’ – set from ‘Options’.
Can you do the same?
NB. What you need to determine is if any of the graphs, especially the disk drives, and the network utilization are saturated / spiking during the periods of stutters.

I’m having no problems over New York today.

Same topic like all of you (using FBW A32NX). Tried everything from empty community folder during update, more virtual memory
to lower graphics setting. Indication is that GPU and network are constantly loaded to the limit. Very variable fps, sometimes ok in the 45’s and then towards the end of flight in the single digits.
Decided that I wasted too many days with trying. Will make a 2 month break with flight simulator, deinstalled all additional hardware (TCA, Screen
) and paused the Navigraph subscription.
Please Asobo: make a patch to SU9, but release it only when fps issues are solved and improve your quality assurance process otherwise you may ruin the good name of MSFS 2020.

I managed to capture the exact moment when my performance suddenly tanked.

39 overall FPS is still much lower than I am used to in comparison to SU8, but it is at least flyable.

Suddenly down to 30 and lots of stuttering.

As stated numerous time. I used clear weather, since turning on clouds makes my Game unplayable since SU9. (Photogrammetry off)
Come on Asobo, you managed to fix the performance issues of WU3 as well with a Hotfix. Please don’t ignore this one until SU10!

Edit: FPS stayed at 29-30 after that and did not recover.

can you do a test ( for me ) and switch the avionics off/on if that happens ?

39fps over Manhattan is pretty good.
But stuttering in your case indicates a momentary blockage somewhere.

I few things I see from your graphs:

  1. Your CPU looks like it’s throttling to below 4GHz (suggests it’s thermally limited when loaded – so it cannot deliver its potential). The could also be a reason why the framerates go down, and then don’t go back up again (ie. while the CPU’s main-thread core remains in an overheated state.)
  2. You are connectivity bandwidth-limited by using only wifi. I would expect that real-time photogrammetry smooth streaming into the sim absolutely needs a gigabit speed cable ethernet connection to the router.

Obviously, though, something has changed between SU8 and SU9 which is placing more work on the main-thread of the CPU. And consequently marginal systems (eg. maybe simply with inadequate cooling?) have difficulty adapting to the increased CPU load?

Is Asobo patching SU9?

Im getting very bad FPS since SU9.

That might be the case, but this one is on Asobo.
If everything was perfect before SU9 and suddenly more than 260 users experience the exact same issue on completely different Hardware configurations, Asobo changed or overlooked something significant which causes those issues.
Let’s wait for the Hotfix.
