OK, now this is going to sound fully nuts, but I’ve repeated this three times in a row, once on approach, then twice on departure. When approaching runway 09R (or departing on 27L), a couple of miles away from the airport I experienced a MASSIVE slowdown in the sim (to the point where it was barely playable). This lasts for a few miles which take FOREVER to complete. Anyone else experience anything like this, at this airport or any others?
Not to that extent. But Florida for me has been a real issue since the last update. Sometimes it’s unplayable and sometimes it’s slow /stutters then is fine-ish again but never great. I fly all over Florida and have noticed issues just about everywhere in the state. Super frustrating.
Performance bugs thread is on fire about this.
Please vote for this bug for visibility.
Seems to be quite common at a fair few locations, especially since Sim Update 3 (most recent update)
Try the same approach but with all online data services disabled. (Bing, photogrammetry etc)
Also, check same approach with windows resource monitor open, Flightsimulator selected (check box) and overview tab.
Keep an eye on “Disk” field. Do the stutters coincide with a sudden surge in activity?
No, you don’t sound nuts at all. Performance last two days in central Florida is terrible and renders sim unusable. Certain stock airports (i.e. KPIE, KORL, KMLB, KSFB, others) CTD before sim loads the flight (multiple aircraft attempted with same result). Even more frustrating KMCO, KPBI, LatinVFR KMIA are rendering absolutely smooth and seem to stay that way. I have tested other areas KBUR, KSNA, KLAS, RJTT, RCSS and found no issues- smooth performance with high graphics.
The really maddening thing is that, prior to update, I had everything running just fine. I dread these updates more and more. Is ‘quality control’ still a thing?
Confirmed. I’ve been doing great flights overseas and even last night over P-cola Beach all the way up to Destin.
I built a quick flight from X59 (bizarre side-note, if you start from the runway, you’re stuck listening to ATIS until you reach 500’ then you can talk to ORL) to KMLB. I had already built an IFR plan, but of course the moment I load and activate, the route logic sends me over MLB backtracking across 9R approach path to do this silly butt arch back to FIBOP.
Anyway, I’m here (screenshot) and the frame rates drop from the mid-40s into the single digits. It’s totally bizarre.
Ah phew! Thought my computer was giving up the ghost…
Nope. Probably part of the overall performance degradation problem since World Update 3 and/or Sim Update 3.
Sorry to say it seems almost random where these slowdowns are occurring if we try to map it to common scenery or subsystem theme. Probably explains why there’s been no further detailed comments from the Devs. This one’s definitely a Whack-A-Mole.
What’s weird is if I click on ESC to end the flight and return to Main Menu, I was in External View when I did this - I could still see the plane moving (as much as the single digits would allow) which shouldn’t be happening at all. ESC is about as permanent a hold you can put on the sim, even more so than Set Pause On.
Happened to me at KBDL last night. But, it happens almost everywhere. And not always on final- I can be on a downwind leg or just overflying an airport too. Noticed it after UK update in the UK, but then everywhere I fly after SU3.
It’s pretty much a universal problem now unfortunately.
Before the update I was using Vero Beach (KVRB) as my home airport. After the update no airport is my home airport because I’ve stopped playing until there’s a fix.
Flying over WDW was always one of my favourite VFR type flights, unfortunately SU3 killed this for me and it is now unplayable. In some ways comforting to know others have issues in Florida and hopefully this bug will be resolved soon.
I’ve seen it happen in an unusual place, KEVY (Summit Airport; Middletown, DE. This is a small airport with one paved and one turf runway. There are no buildings on the airport, nor any other concentration of structures that would tax system resources. Yet when approaching the airport, my frame rates drop to slide show speeds until flying clear of the area. Then performance returns to normal.
