May 16th, 2024 Development Update Blog Discussion

Very teue indeed.
And what to say about @bijanstudio who is already waiting for weeks to get his seasons app update released. This is really getting out of hand in this way. The releases should be spread amongst a wider range of creators.

Maybe this is their way of declogging the pipeline? Lets get this rubble from one creator out of the way so we can focus in the others again.

But for us, this is not how we want to see it.

That’s interesting. I hadn’t realised the connection.

And Sofly’s creation of VA as a new company just raises a new question.

Should existing Marketplace vendors be able to create new companies without the new company going through the validation process?

And if the answer is no, then why is the new company not at the back of the queue?

I think it’s worth bearing in mind that these VA Systems [packages are supposedly very simple and therefore don’t require rigorous vetting/testing. But they ARE taking time away from devs offering better stuff.

On an unrelated note, has anyone else noticed any significant increase in loading times (both to load the sim and between the World Map and your flight) since that small update that dropped a day or two ago?

Ah good to know that the next delay drops on May 23… looking forward to it.

Fair point in terms of the testing.

However, when we first entered the process for Arrows Across America we only had 73 small custom sites in the original package.

As an addon it was, and remains, optimised and has zero impact on FPS, load times etc.

We have had zero feedback from the process despite regularly updating the application, so it is not clear how far the complexity of the addon has any bearing on the process.

It has begun to feel as though there is a group of applications that were made between the initial rush in 2020/21 and whatever new processes have been put in place which have ended up in some weird backlog that no one is looking at.

Perhaps the oddest part about it is that anyone prepared to apply is also prepared to pay MS a c30% commission on all sales via the Marketplace.

If we are happy to pay to get access to the marketplace, then why make it so hard to get in there to begin with?

Hi,

The Marketplace clearly needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom, that vincludes everything from Admissions to UI design and so on. It’s clearly a system that could be used to benefit the community and to some degree it already has, but like a lot of things with this game in general it could be so much better than what it currently is and right now it’s simply become a mess.

Thanks

In last dev stream it was said that it will be/is redone for 24.

Yep, I saw that. Hopefully “redoing” it will include clearing the backlog.

Brazil World update is the only updated marked for 2020.

I don’t see any mention of a Sim Update 16.

That’s because SU16 isn’t scheduled until 2025.
Regards
If you want to see what they said about SU16, look at the transcript of the last Dev Livestream, and search for "SU16)

They’ve already said SU15 will be the last major update for this year, after that they will focus on MSFS 2024 release.

Thanks. Here is the text for others.

What are the plans for supporting FS20 after FS24 is released?

[Jorg] Yeah, so I think we talked about this before. So, 2020 obviously continues throughout this year. I don’t know if you just said it and I didn’t hear you, but Sim Update 15 is the last Sim Update on FS20 for this year. Simply because we need to focus the team. But we are planning on SIM updates for 2020 in the future. So there is a SU16 planned. It looks like it’s going to be early in 2025. And that will bring some of the features, as Martial mentioned a few earlier, like some of the things from 2024 will be backported if possible. So that’s that. And then the world, we will continue to do World Updates and City Updates and those types of things as well. And while not everything, because we’re bringing some new stuff with 2024, so not everything of that will be possible in 2020. We will continue to add new aerials, new height fields, new POIs, new airports, new TIN. All that will continue. But as far as sim updates, I mean, Seb you were the one who said we should do one or two a year. And I think that’s the current plan.

Has Microsoft/Asobo said whether 2020 and 2024 will share the same airspace where groups don’t get split up based on which software version members are flying?

I can see it being similar to the way users in the beta can’t see users still flying the last release. But I can also see how in a protracted overlap, they might have the servers send player updates in whichever message format each sim requires. More server load but probably doable and maintains one large community instead of splitting it.

It’s in MS/Asobo’s interest to not have all traffic in the same space. It would encourage more to update sooner and could remove the need to accommodate both sim protocols on the servers or possibly make SU16 “unnecessary”.

Have they said?

To my knowledge, they have not said.

I highly doubt they will though.
