I get that sometimes but then fire up the regular oculus software and then the debug tool works no problem
Thank you for your help.
how do I run Fs2020 using openxr only, every time I chose run time oculus, it says no vr headset found when I press cntl tab to enter VR mode in FS2020. However if i run steam Vr first then run fs2020 on my desktop, then run fs2020 on my desktop then cntl tab then I get into VR mode in fs2020 and can see it in the Q3 headset but the image is shaky , tearing and the houses buildings etc do not look like they have loaded completely. Using 5G wifi.
Ok, major update here for Q3 and Virtual Desktop. I think I have it dialed in pretty nice, just a bit of fine tuning. It went from unplayable to AWESOME. Here is what Iāve done so far:
Setup: Q3, VD, 4090, 13900K, 64GB ram, Asus AXE-7800 6E router (using the 6ghz getting 2400 mbps)
-
Installed VD-Open XR (thanks mbuccia, see above). Got it running on āOculusā instead of SteamVR
-
Disabled Spacewarp in VD (this was by far the biggest improvement, previously all the images on the horizon would blur with head tilting). Bitrate set to 200, AV-1 10 bit codec.
-
Played with FPS in VD, with spacewarp off I was getting 38-50 FPS so I am settled on 80hz for now.
-
Switched from DLSS to TAA (100%), the graphics were immensely improved.
Now its almost perfectly smooth and detailed. I am running Godlike with the Snapdragon upscaling turned off in VD. I have TLOD at 250 and OLOD at 150 but am still optimizing these. Everything else is at Ultra. I am flying a Piper Warrior and am in Little Rock AR, I havenāt pushed it into busier areas or loaded any extra traffic etc, but thatās ok I can always adjust the TLOD/OLOD.
By far the best experience I have had in MSFS. Also of note, I was occasionally getting CTD when using TAA, after I updated to the latest NVIDIA driver (537.58) I havenāt had any yet, hopefully I wonāt because the fine detail on the instruments is so much more legible with it set to TAA now.
Also, turn reprojection off according to mbucchia if switching to his VD-OpenXR program.
I will update if I make any other major discoveries!
anyone using the link cable with quest 3 and msfs? as my internet speed is not the best and vd did not really work well for me with the quest 2 I always used the link cable⦠curious if its worth but Im really thinking of getting one today.
Thanks for these extra settings, Iāve got the same pc spec as you, so these will help me get dialled. I had a brief go with the VD runtime beta and found that 120hz was working the best for me, but I will probably change that with these settings.
Are you using the XR tookit at all? I think I had CAS on 70%.
It looks like VD-OpenXR will be the solution to my problems (and @clayton41158342 above). Canāt wait until itās released.
I havenāt even tried the toolkit yet. I have seen reports of additional improvements so once I play with it I will report back.
Why te ppl write a hocus pokus that none understands ?
What is VD-Open XR ??? Is it Virtual Desktop working with openxr ? At least give the link to software you use. That what you write is not helpful at allā¦
If you read the entire thread you will see the user who has already posted that this software is in beta testing and a link is available in his discord. I did not want to post it here since I felt it was up to him to do so, but it is available if you are resourceful. I suspect a new threat with a link will be available shortly. But yes, it enables you to bypass SteamVR and use OpenXR.
In the meantime if you have a Q3 and are using virtual desktop, I would start by disabling space warp and see your result. Mine was dramatic.
Hey, there will be a thread about the tool when it releases officially.
Right now itās almost ready, just not quite yet, so please a little more patience
Itās great to have tons of testers, thereās actually much more interest than anticipated, so please people slow down so we all have time to wrap up the official release and work towards the best out-of-the-box experience
This tool will only be of interest to users of compression-based/streaming HMDs, right?
Thanks for the guide. Do I need to install the openxr runtime ? I had the pico 4 before so I don`t know what other software to install for quest 3. Asking as I did install the beta VD-Open XR but when running MSFS in VR it pops up that I do not have openxr installed
- Use the runtime switcher to make sure VDXR is the active runtime.
- Launch VD on desktop
- Launch VD inside Quest 3
- Launch MSFS from VD inside the Quest 3
Yes itās specific to Virtual Desktop and Oculus Link.
Will you make a manual for the absolutly ignorants who just want the best experience ? Like myself ?
I found that when I would launch MSFS from the games tab in VD, it would revert back to SteamVR. Solution is to launch by just opening it on the desktop while in VD.
Iām sure detailed instructions from the developer are pending, I was just so impatient and disappointed with the Q3 being worse than my Q2 experience I spent an hour learning about discord, GitHub, and lots of other stuff I hadnāt heard of. But it was worth it:)
My questions now will be if the OpenXR toolkit can make this experience any better!
It can! Several options for tweaking⦠I currently ignore the most of them to be honest. I just use it to correct the colors, as I donāt like the Quest colors. It is like sitting in front of a Samsung TV or mobile⦠not realistic.
You can also change sharpness, resolution, foveate rendering, contrast, and and and and⦠have fun!
btw. I like you attitude, not giving up⦠and want to learn that stuff to make your experience better. At least I have a GitHub and Discord account since years and knew where I have to look at⦠For you it must be something completely different - but you went that track to make it happen! Kudos!
Just tab in using the keyboard, avoid the Steam VR button in Virtual Desktop
Yesterday I tried VDXR and it was running almost perfectly I was really satisfied.
Today I wanted to fly again, but somehow the resolution of MSFS in the game, especially when you look in the outer area of the FOV, is really bad. Like 800x600 pixel - even in SteamVR. When I switch out of the VR-Mode and see the game in 2D through the lenses the game looks sharp but in VR Mode itās unplayable. It is even hard to read the text of the main menu.
I donāt understand what happened. It cannot be a router problem because yesterday everything was fine
Half Life: Alex with Steam VR looks really fine! So it seems to be a MSFS problem?
I would appreciate any ideas
EDIT: Solved. I changed FFR in Sidequest to Off and the picture is now super clear!
BTW I am using an old Asus RT-AC66U router with 866Mbit 5Ghz and it is running fine in Godmode.
