METAR keeps disrupting the weather/ bugged weather/Cumulus/CB clouds only/no medium to high cloud coverage

@arniex78

Yes it’s as clear to me as day is to night, that SU5 decreased the visual quality of the clouds, probably for Xbox or performance gains because people were complaining that was totally unnecessary as long as you ran appropriate settings on appropriate hardware with an appropriate expectation of FPS in a flight sim, and that SU7 messed up the injection of these poorer quality clouds resulting in further decreased visuals and more inaccuracy. Both of these updates combining to give us a far, far, inferior sim than we had on release.

Yep totally agree too, it’s night and day. I’ve been using it since the Alpha, and what we have right now is by far the worse rendition of live weather.

It’s just a joke that since this update you can have beautiful clouds and skies, then as soon as you get close to an airport METAR area, absolutely hideous. How you can go from this to this, I just don’t know.

Then…

It’s like two different worlds.

With the new weather system,

CAVOK (no clouds below 5000ft), oh apart from the absolutely massive hideous ones that look awful and are clearly incorrect.

The new live weather system is a mess, ugly and inaccurate, it needs removing from the sim and testing properly until it works.

here’s another example, Humberside UK, absolute messy representation in the sims…which was once capable of pre su7

I wish Rex Weatherforce was not so stuttery when loading in new METAR’s, and did so more gradually as well. Even though I have persistent weather loading enabled, which is supposed to load the new metars in over time - it is still not transitioning smoothly from OVC to CLEAR for example… If the conditions are the same the transition is not as noticeable, but going from OVC or CLEAR, or vice versa, it’s very noticeable, and that totally kills the immersion for me…sigh.

I really hope Asobo can fix live weather, and give us more cloud variations - because that’s what makes flying fun and interesting! :frowning:

I posted this in the General Discussion forum, but here might be a better home for it.

"I have flown with live weather since I first bought the sim in March last year. I flew frequently and happily until SU5, when it introduced colourbanding. As a GA flyer flying exclusively in Ireland and UK I come in contact pretty much every flight with lots and lots of clouds. Overnight my clouds had turned purple and green.

So began a long 6 month wait for colourbanding to be acknowledged as an issue, the root cause of the issue found and a break-fix implemented.

My flying time has dwindled month by month since SU5 largely because of colourbanding. But now just when it is fixed I find clouds have been damaged even further by the new live weather.

I downloaded the patch last night and flew for 15 mins over Dublin.

The enormous dark brooding grainy sooty volcanic columns that greeted me are like nothing I ever saw in live weather pre SU7. And they are certainly like nothing I have ever seen in nearly 50 years living in Ireland. I don’t recognize these skies, they are other-worldly. I wrote in another thread that if these occured in real life there would be gridlock in Dublin as people stopped their cars to step outside to gaze at and photo this end-of-world event.

Furthermore on two occasions last night entire cloud banks blinked in and out of existence. One second I’m in low cloud on take-off, one nanosecond later and it’s gone.

I don’t want to abandon msfs, but for now I have to abandon live weather (like I’ve abandoned ATC) and try learn how to use preset weather. I didn’t purchase a sci-fi game. I cannot see how they can fix this before or with SU8. I really hope they introduce a switch allowing us choose to switch to legacy live weather.

Maybe in other parts of the world live weather looks ok, but it seems Ireland has been lost."

It’s bad in most places, I fly everywhere. Here in Belfast the weather looks also awful most of the time, like today, cumulus clouds almost on ground, high and broken wispy clouds…it’s really not playable for me. But italy, Japan, Taiwan, Alaska, New Zealand…all with the same skies the same issues. I hope Asobo can resolve this before su8 or at least within that update. It’s sad to think how it was 2 months ago and the state it is now… all because of a mandatory update.

I know it’s so frustrating, an endless wait for things that break to be fixed.

Pre SU5, ok live clouds, no colourbanding.
Post SU5, ok live clouds, terrible colourbanding. Post SU7, terrible live clouds, terrible colourbanding.
Post SU7 beta, terrible live clouds, no colourbanding.

Post SU8? Please please be no colourbanding and a button to choose your preferred live weather: Legacy Meteoblue or New Metar/Meteoblue.

Towards the left, you can see the area covered under weather, in the particular METAR radius.

As soon as that radius is crossed(right side of the screenshot), clear weather.

Invariably, within METAR radius, the weather is always cloudy, overcast, and with low visibility.

Cross few SM, and weather is crystal clear.

Just check this out. You can clearly differentiate now.

This game/sim taught me to like to fly virtually, and little by little it took that away from me. I’ts painful. I’ve been grounded since the beginning of SU7.
I really miss looking at the sky after a long day at work, see how the weather is and think “today is a good day to fly on msfs”

I see some players here on the forum, totally dedicated to testing and pointing out the flaws, but unfortunately this forum seems useless, we are talking among ourselves and there is no official response from the developer. This is even more painful.

There are many accumulated problems and with each update everything only gets worse. It’s absurd. sorry for the rant, I’ve never seen this even with free to play games, and this one is not a cheap game.

Totally feel you buddy!

It seems this forum is created just so that people can take their frustrations out, and not much more than that.

I wonder when i can get the weather back into the sim that i enjoyed before su7. Because some wished to get METAR-weather into the sim doesn’t automatically mean that everyone wanted that. I wish i could get my money back because this system is not what i bought 1,5 years ago. This is not an improvement, this is a feature removed from the sim replaced with something else. I know i can’t get my money back but i would like to have my feature back into the sim.

True, we are only hoping this discussion gets noticed and appreciated by the developers.
Perhaps some of the youtubers like ObsidianAnt, Easyjetsimpilot, … would be interested in making a feature video about the MSFS weather drama.

Unfortunately this forum is useless as you say. Many of us have dedicated a lot of our time to try and track down and highlight bugs with the live weather and we’ve had zero acknowledgement of these issues.

They introduced this new tag system here on the forum to add tags such as ‘bug logged’, another complete waste of time as you can see how inconsistent that is. So many posts and threads filled with useful information that have no official acknowledgment or tag.

Zendesk is just as useless, I only get a automated or generic reply about issues I raise there or things I would like help with. Unfortunately the customer support for MSFS is almost non-existent and you have to be lucky enough to be able to fix something yourself or with help from another forum user. The issues we have with live weather we cannot do that though.

It’s become clear these past couple of sim updates that MSFS is simply not what it was sold to be. The developers are so out of touch with what the real issues are and continue to ignore them or even make issues worse or break things that worked before. I’ve come to absolutely dread sim updates because for the couple of new things they add or improve they break a dozen things in the process.

@Jummivana

Hi Jayne - do you know if the team is aware of the current frustration amongst the community with regards to the weather situation ?

All we want to know if is they are addressing the concerns we have. We want to fly and enjoy our hobby once again, not sit on a forum complaining every day.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated !

Thank you.

I wish they hadn’t listened to the users since the beginning. Then we would still have the dynamic weather.

Can we start a wishlist thread to remove METAR from the weather engine?
