MFG Crosswind V3 not recognised by the SIM

The easy way to find the right axis to bind is on the left hand side.

There are some input boxes. One should be marked “Search by input”. Click there, then press one of the rudder pedals, and it it should show the correct axis to bind.

Yes, I had the same trouble with my Crosswind Pedals and thought that I maybe should install the software (MFG_Software_package_V2.17) that I downloaded from them. However, I don’t want to add anymore background software than I need to.

I must say that the “Gaming control” panel in the Windows 10 Devices & Printers section, indicates that the Crosswind pedal’s Toe-brakes were not evenly applied around the target screen. It was as if the entire toe-brake travel pattern was shifted too far to the left.

So, I used the “Calibrate” to fix it, but if I did that, I could move the crosshair-curser as I stepped on the left or right toe-brake, but as I slowly stepped or released each toe brake, the curser would only go half way in its travel, before suddenly jumping to the end of its travel, rather than proceeding smoothly as it should have.

The USB port I have it plugged into are those in the back of my computer (in the I/O panel). I’ve tried different USB ports back there but there was no difference in that strange behavior. All the USB ports in the I/O panel are USB 3.1 (or 3.2) ports. It acted the same way when I tried my USB 2.0 ports and again, when I changed my USB Cable.

In addition to that strange behavior, I also have an anomaly occur when I press my left rudder pedal. The Windows target screen shows the rudder bar slide to the left in the ‘Minus’ direction, but just before I get to the full left travel, the left Toe-brake sudden turns on in the top-center part of the target square, and then moves to the left.

It was as if it thought I was applying the left toe-brake at the same time I was pressing the left rudder pedal! I’m suspecting one of two things; A] The Pedal’s PCB needs to be replaced, and/or B] I need to install the software.

Anyway, I didn’t install the Crosswinds software…yet. But last night I found that I could use the “Essentials” selection and maybe apply the Crosswind Pedals to the system. Hopefully, I’ll be able to apply the sensitivity curves to the pedals like you can to the other, “detected” controls.

As an “FSX’er” for 9+ years, I must agree that the FS 2020 UI is a bit too ‘manually’, or ‘hands-on’ orientated. They could have made a few of the functions a little ‘smarter’ so that you don’t need to literally tell the system what every single axis is and what it does.

I can understand why it’s so detailed in every category. There are Flight-sim controllers out there that cost well over $1200 for just one throttle quadrant, and don’t get me started on all the other controls and instrument components available.

A ‘home-PC flight Sim’ can easily run well over $20K, and that’s not including the hydraulic-controlled platforms or Cockpit enclosures!

Can anyone offer some insight about the strange toe-brake and left rudder/left toe-brake behavior I’m experiencing in the Windows Game Settings panel?
Rich

I really think that you ought to at least run Milans software here as that will give you absolute certainty of responses and sensitivities so that you know where you are starting from. It is easy to do and will at least confirm that any unusual interactions are known to be upwind of the simulator. I suspect a rebind might be coming up here myself.

PS Just seen the age of this thread!

I do that all the time. I really think all threads should be retired after a certain age.

Yes, but when I look in the mirror every morning, I sometimes wonder about the users too…
