That’s a name I would never have expected. Remember this:
From 1991! Blast from the past.
Also means I’m far too old. ![]()

Not me. I can’t fathom what the problem is. Ships can have guns but planes can’t? I like the Marketplace, but I’m forced to buy all my warbirds elsewhere. If it doesn’t look right, I’m not interested in flying it. I’ve been to a few airshows and I’ve never seen a warbird of any kind with broomsticks for guns (or none at all). If they’re fake, and they probably are, they still look real).
I have - on a B-17 at an air show. I don’t remember which one it was, though. But one (at that time) was flying with black painted wooden dowels.
For all practical purposes there’s really only the F and G, though. According to Wikipedia there were 119 aircraft total in the B-17B, C, and D variants as things were changing rapidly and improvements were incorporated in the production line. The most produced other variant was the B-17E at 512 aircraft.
Some looked pretty cool with blister windows, a very narrow waist just before the vertical stabilizer and no tail gun or ball turret, etc, but good documentation may be hard to get and they aren’t the “famous” G or F models.
The Y1B-17 is really a pretty one all polished up and doesn’t have visible guns that I see. That one could be a cool subject but who knows how many would pay to have one? (I would in a heartbeat if it was a good rendition)
Fair enough. I’ve only seen two of them in recent years and they both had real, or real looking guns. The one I toured sure looked real, but I didn’t ask if they were
Presumably in the US they’d be legal as long as they weren’t fully automatic. The most recent one I saw is not a G as there’s no chin turret I think. My pictures aren’t close enough to actually see if they look real or not.
That’s what puzzles me about AH. FI will undoubtedly be better AND cheaper. Where will AH’s market be?
Edit: I suppose if they made a different variant… that’d be the market.
Given AH’s lack of testing and bug fixing, I imagine their play would be to rush to market first and take advantage of being the only option for as long as possible. I’m sure they would get sales that way. Obviously, those of us who pay attention would hold back, but I’m sure there are plenty of folks who don’t know their track record in FS2020.
In less cynical terms, as far as other models go, the “F” would be a clear favorite as it bore the brunt of the war effort in Europe before the “G” was developed and it includes the Memphis Belle among its ranks.
That aircraft is still such a stunningly beautiful design it’s hard to believe it was developed as an instrument of war.
Microprose has been active for a few years now but it’s their first involvement in MSFS. It’s not the same company as it was 30 years ago, it’s just some guy from Australia who bought MicroProse brand and their IP.
AH haven’t announced work on a B-17. They’re working on a Lancaster.
Folks, just please be aware of the Code of Conduct around weapons and violence. After peer review, posts were restored. Discussion of the 3D artwork associated with this product are okay, but please don’t go beyond that.Thanks.
Don’t forget the caveats, though. Today’s “Microprose” shares only the name with the original, and the original company’s classic titles were decades ago. I know, because I still have my original disk for at least one of them, and it still boots on my vintage 8-bit computer hardware to this day.
We will have to wait and see just what level of quality and value this modern “Microprose” is capable of giving us.
Why are we discussing the 787 on a B-17 thread?

Someone asked, I answered!
But by all means, let’s discuss the B-17 ![]()
I’m keen to see how Microprose fits out the interior. Their preview didn’t give us a glimpse of it.
I’m hoping this will be a nice rendition. I’m also wondering how it will stack up against FI’s version.
I’d also really like to fly in formation with you all.
That would be awesome! Get a few people together. I’ll definitely get FI, but if this comes first, looks really good and is priced competitively I’d be open to it.
Folks, this is a reminder to keep your posts related to the B-17
haha. I remember them of the F1 racing games. Hope they can get the same level of quality as they did back then
And then there’s the very next message ![]()
