Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: a deep dive into PS VR2 mode artical

Just found this new artical from today, about PSVR2 with Jorg https://blog.playstation.com/2026/03/20/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-a-deep-dive-into-ps-vr2-mode/

So when is it actually launching? I don’t have a PS but am curious about people’s experience =)

looks great but please can we have the release date, we already have nearly april now, the blog interview sounds like its arround the corner, thx in advance

i buyed it for xbox and now for PS5 only due vr support, both as aviator, please give us the date or a realistic window when we can expect, it was stated early 2026, now we reach end of early 2026. the snips looks promising  but no word about the date, it drives us nuts xD

@jörg neumann, we beg you !!!

My gut tells me PSVR2 will be announced today at FSweekend with availability immediately or the next few days. :airplane:

It will be available with SU5.

This article says April with the Sim5. Let’s hope it’s true.

MSFS 2024 PlayStation VR2 support gets a release window: it’s coming with Sim Update 5 in April - MSFS Addons

From this official post in Official Microsoft Flight Simulator > News & Announcements

PSVR is available to demo for the first time at FlightSimWeekend, with support coming soon to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 in Sim Update 5.

SU5 is currently planned to be released in April.

Oh really? Is that just from the official Roadmap?

The beta was released on February 13th, so a final release in April is somewhat logical, about two months later.

Unfortunately, nothing is official yet; Asobo hasn’t communicated anything about PS5 for months.

They tweet about City Update and Local Legend, but not about MSF PSVR2 being demoed at FSWeekend.

Well, it’s official. Jorg said SU5 in April during FSWeekend, no precise date but it’s already exceptional to have a timeframe.

@BearsAreCool510

Yes, but not from a roadmap. Jorg mentioned the April timeframe in his presentation as the FSweekend event when he discussed the support for Playstation 5 VR2 in MSFS, which you can watch here:

“…We’re now ready to announce a launch time, and we will launch this along side Sim Update 5 in April…”

I’m already buying VR2 just for this game!

hope it runs well on base PS5 tho…

not gonna upgrade to Pro unless Base wont have 60FPS mode for GTA VI in November..

Is there even the slightest chance it will offer hand tracking, which PSVR2 supports? It would be amazing to control the plane using HOTAS and then use your hands to interact with the cockpit. I don’t want to be waving the controller around in the air.

Not sure thats even availiable for PCVR let alone PS5

Really curious what fps it’s pushing, how fluid it is in major PG areas, and whether it’s running the equivalent of DLSS Performance / Ultra Performance or not (I would assume so). Although I guess it would need to be FSR since this is AMD hardware.

Can the PSVR2 do 60hz without obvious strobing? Probably not, apparently normal OLED is much worse than mOLED when it comes to this, so I guess not. I assume they might be doing 60fps at 120hz? Everything else doesn’t make much sense to me. Maybe even reprojection aka motion smoothing by default? Then they could do 45fps@90hz I suppose.

They cannot run the sim at 45fps. PSVR2 must run at a minimum of 60fps native with reprojection to 120fps to get certification from Sony for PSVR. If it doesn’t meet these requirements it won’t be allowed onto the platform.

The PSVR2 port will feature interaction using the move controllers regardless of that being available or not on PC. The functionality is baked into the PSVR2 SDK, so its supported by default.

Ah OK, I thought something like this might be the case. So is their reprojection good or are there visible artifacts?

We won’t know until it’s out - which is when I will be buying it. I’m sure that Asobo won’t be releasing a bad implementation on VR because the PS5 market depends on it. Despite the bugs, graphically, the sim has delivered above expectations. There is some disappointment from Pro that their version isn’t somehow MUCH better - despite the fact that most games which are updated for pro only offer a modest improvement to some of the visuals at best. I expect if there is a sacrifice to be made it will be to object density etc - things which are processed locally rather than streamed. The resolution, I am not so concerned about, as although the image needs to be duplicated / stereoscopic, any extra demand is offset by each image being foveated.

I meant the PSVR2 reprojection in general - I assume it’s the same or similar for many of its games. No idea though.
