Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Coming to Sony PlayStation 5

It also seems to me that, despite different builds, cross-platform compatibility leads to visual limitations on the PC. I can’t think of any other explanation for why the TLOD and OLOD distance on the PC has been steadily reduced over the last two years, even though computer hardware is getting better and better. I really hope that the PS5 version doesn’t reduce the visual quality of the simulator even further.

Great, so now we can expand the bugs section by 33%. Maybe you should have got FS2024 into an acceptable state before announcing this?

Now that it’s official, I think it’s time to fix controller support in the simulator.

  • An AI pilot you can’t disable intervenes and ruins the flight as soon as you enter Cursor Mode.
  • Clicking the EFB is very hard with the virtual cursor.
  • Flight planning on the world map or EFB is very hard with the virtual cursor as most UI elements don’t support it.
  • Many menu screens don’t have a cursor while others do.
  • The virtual cursor clickspot is often offset and is not at the actual center of the cursor.

Also, the simulator runs terribly on Xbox. PlayStation players are not used to such low quality. And most of them won’t use a mouse because it’s simply not as common as in Xbox games. So it’s time to get the act together on consoles finally.

Wow, this sounds great! In my part of the world PS5 has a bigger market share than Xbox, some sources say it is as much as 70% vs 30% but not sure if that is correct. Microsoft must have the real numbers.

If I get MSFS for PS5, will all my previously purchased content be available? Will I use the same account as on PC when logging in?

I hope they explain to the PS crowd that they need a high speed IP to run 24.
Its still naff on xbox so i hope they do a significantly better job for the new folks.

There will be a huge uptake in Japan and that’s a very good thing

But they will be confined to the thrusmaster hotas

I just hope they nail the launch and the sim is in better shape by Dec, and I’m talking career mode fully fledged out including a large array of 3rd party aircraft and liveries

I wouldn’t hold my breathe on previous purchased content but I hope it will carry over mainly as I own a PS5 and no longer want to be locked into the xbox in a inferior sim

For me, this is good news. I’ve got friends who are interested in flight simming with PS5s but never wanted to buy a new console or build a mega bucks PC. This is great for them. Also, what with all the recent redundancies at Microsoft and reorganisation of the games division, it means FS is not going anywhere and here to stay for the long haul. I just hope that the Asobo team is scaled appropriately to support so many platforms and not “crunched” into oblivion. Let us also hope that the cloud architecture is also scaled appropriately.

I’ll continue to enjoy FS on my PC as I have for the last 25 years. We can no longer gatekeep the sim or it will be death of it.

Can’t even get it working properly on there own console and O/S, now they want to start on Sony users.

This announcement is a huge opportunity for XPlane. The numerous problems that will arise in the PC version of FS2024 (SU5 2020 vibes) and Asobo’s loss of interest in fixing the many existing bugs will drive players toward other products.
Also, I want to save the few PS5 players who are thinking of buying the Aviator version… Be aware that after a year some aircraft still can’t even take off. They don’t work, they have never been updated, and they probably never will be.

Good luck.

The schedule states there will be 2 surprises in Q4 2025.
Is PS5 version, one of them?
Or will we have to wait until next Dev Q&A to find out?

In theory, this sounds like a great idea. In practice though, that remains to be seen. I am one of the folks who have had great success with 2024, with the exception of some network issues at the very beginning. For me, there have been very few problems. I love the sim and spend way too much time in it. BUT, a lot of users are still experiencing issues, especially on console. Now we are going to try another console?

I dunno. I hope MS gives Asobo sufficient resources and breathing room to do this well right out of the gate. If not, rather than drawing more people into the hobby, it will push many folks away and be a colossal disaster for Microsoft’s foray into into other consoles.

Well, Laminar Research probably wouldn’t mind if it crashes and burns…

That said, I do want it to be successful and I have a PS5, so I’ve thrown my hat in the ring for the beta. Hopefully the beta testers can provide some good input and Asobo listens.

Nothing constitute the confidence that it will be smooth invitation :thinking::rofl: Anyway godspeed :crossed_fingers:

Hopefully this generates enough revenue to fix the default planes that are so completely broken (Saab for example)

Laminar have their own agenda and they concentrate on their stuff, improving the sim step by step

probably yes ! the other one is that release of SU4 is postponed to next year. :scream:

Yes, there are separate “builds” but they share the same codebase, which was confirmed by Sebastian in the April developer livestream. (The question was posed at the 35 minute mark.)

And that is the main concern. The fact that previous changes to the shared codebase to improve performance in the Xbox build (SU5) had an adverse impact on the PC build has us all worried that similar compromises have to be made now that the PS5 is being added as yet another platform.

And for some reason the PC build always seems to suffer the most as a result of these compromises.

Today, MS has announced that FS24 is coming to the PlayStation 5. Many of us are puzzled, shaking their heads and wondering, why MS is doing this. Because there are so many outstanding issues with FS24 for PC and Xbox. What is MS thinking?

Microsoft naturally thinks entrepreneurially and therefore logically profit-oriented. And if an opportunity to expand the business arises, they will seize it. To all those who complain here (including myself) that selling for a new platform would harm the further development of existing ones, I would like to point out, that this process is completely normal business practice.

We know this from the VW Group with its numerous subsidiaries. The group has various models that share the same platform. Competition within the company? Far from it. The marketing department loves competition between the platforms within the company. Because it both stimulates internal competition and shows which model is most successful in the market. The successful model will continue to be promoted, while the others will have to assert themselves more vigorously.

For the PC/Xbox/ situation this means, that MS wants to expand its share of the FS sim market through PS, even if it could come at the expense of PC and Xbox platforms. MS is thinking and calculating rigorously. The PS market is huge; participating here is more advantageous than investing the effort in the consistent and costly further development of PC and Xbox.

I like flying fire attack missions (CL415, AT 802), but the many nonsensical bugs in these missions haven’t been fixed yet. Why? Because fewer and fewer people are flying these missions. Why? Because the nonsensical bugs still exist. And so we keep spiraling.

And I think and fear that MS assumes, that there are fewer hardcore FS simmers among console users than among PC pilots. This means MS can sleep more soundly and doesn’t have to deal with constantly complaining PC pilots. And business is booming again, while PC pilots continue to face conditions that create frustration rather than immersion.

thats why hardcore simmers start looking on the other side of the fence and start enjoying xp12.
