After four days of frustration and wasted time, I realized that there is nothing in 2024 that is worth the effort, at least not for me. When I was finally able to fly, I didn’t see any improvement in the graphics, setting up controls and key bindings is a nightmare and I had a lot of CTDs. I went back to 2020 and everything works, controls, add-ons, PMDG, Fenix and Flybywire aircraft. Luckily, I made a back-up disk image before I installed 2024, so it was easy to go back. I will try again in a few months. But as of today, what is in 2024 that improves the sim experience? Am I missing something?
I really only need MSI when gaming however I did have it set to launch on Windows startup. I found that not having it running when MSFS 2024 loads up and then turning it on manually once it loads works fine. No crashes with it after the sim is already running.
Once I changed my pagefile size to “32000 to 61000” (my exact value) I have stopped getting game crashes all together. Especially since 2 years ago in MSFS 2020.
Please look up how to change your pagefile size and get back to me, let me know if it helped. It was a game changer for me, I had like 2 CTD’s in a whole year.
I always seem to have two files that do not validate as well. I validate the files every time I close the game…appears to be my new hobby as well.
Crazy, huh?
I just can’t finish configuring anything.
Got this just now:
Apologies for all that white real state there.
Congratulations @Lebeau6814
I’m on the MS Store version with nothing in my community folder. I honestly have no clue what to do at this point
I get the exact same error. Started immediately AFTER the 1.1.9.0 update installed.
I have this same issue after the hotfix update the game is crashing on launching…
Any help please
I had like 6 x crashes yesterday when I chose any different livery than basic one. This is very annoying. Also returning to the main menu often causes ctd. This sim is completely unstable
I am also experiencing CTD’s during loading of the sim. This seems to have started with the initial release of the sim 1.1.17, after I had been messing with the rubbish controller configuration. I had the 172 selected at the time and had been trying to work-out bespoke controls for it etc. After that I started getting CTD’s every I selected the 172 - other aircraft no problems.
I tried resetting the sim app and this initially seemed to fix the problem - I figured it had effectively removed corrupt controller profiles. Albeit I had to go through the initial sim set-up again.
Fast forward to the hotfix update 1.1.19 and setting up controllers. Noticed something straight away that when I created a new assignment. The dialogue pops up to prompt creation of a new profile, I do that but the new profile is not added and only “none” can be selected - which if you do wipes the assignments you just made. Doing nothing and accepting “none” as being ok and the assignments sort of stick - although I found I had to do this all again once in the sim environment.
However, after restarting the sim (may have been a PC shut down in between) the sim now grinds to a halt and CTD’s every launch when it reaches the point where you would hit the big yellow start button to get into the sim menu.
At this point I just feel there is something corrupt about by controller profiles that is causing the sim crash. An app reset only seems to be a temporary way of getting the sim to run again.
Flaky as hell and untested it seems.
Hey all. I need some help. I’m using a brand new computer. Specs below:
ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2024) Gaming Laptop, 16” 16:10 FHD 165Hz Display, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060, Intel Core i7-13650HX, 16GB DDR5, 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD, Wi-Fi 6E, Windows 11, G614JV-AS74
Flight sim keeps crashing. The farthest I’ve gotten is the server error, but often times I don’t even make it that far, it just crashes after the xbox logo!
Is my computer not powerful enough? I’m pretty sure it is. I’ve tried the “repair” solution, but the only options I get are “uninstall”. I’ve already deleted the game and downloaded it again, and I’ve restarted my computer multiple times.
Update: I get error code: 001-400 if I’m able to make it past the xbox logo
Thanks in advance for y’alls help!

I fixed it. Needed to do a complete uninstall using the app list, then reboot computer. Then reinstall from xbox app (MS Store version.) Took maybe 15 minutes to download and install. Sim started fine, and completed a short test flight.
Same here I’m having the CTDs a lot post update
Since day 1 (I pre-purchased the Aviator Edition on XBox portal a few weeks before the release to the public) with v1.1.7.0, I NEVER managed to even launch the Sim, or, at least, to actually ‘see’ an aircraft In the Sim! I always got CTDs as soon as I start to edit settings. Yesterday, I have updated to 1.1.9.0 and still cannot even get past the initial settings because as soon as I start to set them up, the programs crashes to desktop at warp speed! For now (and I deeply hope it is just ‘for now’!) it seems I have simply flushed some 220 euros down the drain! Lucky all those who managed to even create a pilot avatar and start to fly even if just for a few minutes! Lucky them, because I basically I never even get inside the simulated world, that is. Have (and shall gladly continue) to stick to MSFS 2020 which, indeed is working (and continues to work) super-fine!! Very very very disappointed this time. Will likely never pre-purchase a MS product in the future again, it doesn’t feel right to my wallet!
For those interested, here is my PC specs and configuration:
MoBo Asus ROG Strix Z790-F Gaming WiFi • Intel Core i7-13700KF (13th Gen) @ 3.4 GHz • Asus ROG Strix Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 24 Gb • 32 Gb RAM • Asus ROG STRIX XG32UQ 32" monitor @ 4K (3840x2160) & 160 Hz, all running under Windows 10 Pro at 64-bit (latest version always). BTW, my Nvidia drivers are always the latest, as per Nvidia GeForce Experience updates’ notifications. The Sim runs from disk C (an NVME fast SSD), and I also tried to install it on disk D (which is an even faster SSD): same result, unfortunately.
I tried every solution/fix I could find on the internet, I even changed my Virtual Memory settings (later on restored to its default values). I have rebooted the PC countless times, but to no avail. Seems really that MS did not even test their product… sadly. But in the end I am not really ‘complaining’: I just wanted to share my disappointment with other fellow ‘pilots’, and possibly, find some kind of explanation to all of this software behaviour (which, we have to admit, is weird)…
Thanks.
Cheers.
Lucky you, man! I lost count of how many times I removed it, repaired it and re-installed it from scratch (even to a different SSD) from XBox app. Really, cannot remember the number! I still haven’t ‘entered’ the simulator since day 1!
Removed items in FS2024 Community Folder and no CTDs.
Working well now.
I am experiencing a very odd, annoying crash. I installed the game today; played once and was able to fly around, mess around, closed the game. Now whenever I load the game, it will load into the main menu, but as soon as I click into the map, the entire computer just turns off. Then reboots itself. It’s as if the map kills the computer. Very odd, disconcerting problem. 12700k, 3090 build
