Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 General Feedback

I play all day with no issues. Been playing on and off throughout today. Numerous career cargo flights around eastern Australia in Cessna 172 on my 11 year old Dell. Did see a couple of floating static planes at one airport and a tree on a taxiway but everything else working as it should. Controls are smooth and responsive, Getting S rating each flight. Cpu running around 50% while GTX 1660 super Gpu rarely above 80%. I do delete the cache and turn off real time virus protection before loading the programme.

Can try what u say. But we are not supposed to play this way. Asked on discord and happens to many people

Something strange happend to me with MSFS2024.

I bought “dreamscenery-rotterdam-vfr” for MSFS2020 to enhance the scenery of the Port of Rotterdam. I installed it in MSFS2020 and it worked great.
All waterways where cleaned from underwater dams and the industrial complexes looks great, ships where in place and unnecessary trees, shrubs are removed.

I thought let me also try to install it in MSFS2024.
I did that, but it won’t work.

Shutdown MSFS2024 and deleted the folder.
Start MSFS2024 to be shure that all was clean and worked again.

What was my surprise!, the whole scenery was updated and almost everything looked the same as in MSFS2020, only a few things where not there.
How can it be, because the folder with the scenery update was deleted?

Shutdown MSFS2024 and searched for the scenery update folder everywhere.
I could not find it?

Not in the folder structure “MSFS2024”, “Community”, “Official/Onestore” or in folder structure “Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe”.
I deleted Rolling cache and build a new one.

After all that i started MSFS2024 and the update was for 95% still there.
Only a few items where missing.

Have someone seen this before, because i don’t understand it?
Is there a something like a server cache?

I have seen now, what is happend!

I only copied the folder from MSFS2020 to MSFS2024 and after i deleted this folder out of MSFS2024 the contend is picked up and is now streamed.
I can disable it if i want to, that’s nice.

FS2020 marketplace content won’t work in FS2024 by copying it over, it is encrypted and DRM’d to tie it to FS2020 only. The only way you can access it now is to either stream it or download a fresh new copy via FS2024 marketplace when they release it to us.

Thanks! :+1:
I am not to old to learn, although I am 73!

lol almost every mission I’ve flown in the Beachcraft has been that way pretty sure it’s exclusive to that aircraft lol

A “feature”.

After reading through this thread, looking at the reviews and YT videos, am just glad I never fell for the Asobo MSFS 2024 smooth talk, with their usual carefully crafted videos, and all their hyped up shill you tubers singing its praises.
It was deceitful advertising, done when they knew it was broken. Its not only dishonest, its disgraceful and shameful that they advertised it knowing it was an unfinished mess.
All I wanted was decent camera views in MSFS 2020, like a simple assignable one button Tower view and basic Flyby, instead of the ridiculous convoluted drone camera. But Asobo cant even manage that.

I Found this pertinent comment on YouTube today on a recent MSFS 2024 video, which kind of sums up the situation, especially for PC users who purchased it:

''Never pre-order, never buy day 1, always let someone else do that, and learn from them, we need to stop incentivizing big massive corporations to give us slop. if they stop thinking they can get money first, then make the game after, they’ll start making the game first.
*as it is now, they get the money, then take their sweet a.s.sed time maybe, if they feel like it, to finish making the game.‘’

This camera system has always been horrible, it was horrible in FS2020, even more so in FS2024. I have never been able to get it to work, switching between drone, outside, fixed views and cockpit, something always gets screwed up. I just ended up unassigning all of these key bindings for drone and fixed views and only use cockpit and external view. In FS2024 I can’t zoom in or out in external view, and it often also randomly stops working in cockpit view, only a restart works at that point. Even if they would add tower and flyby views at some point, I’m not hopeful this would be useful.

To be fair: I’m sure they could manage - but they have different priorities.

Well, there is the FS24 imbedded “Flight Control Replay” thing -
but to be honest, I have not found that to be very intuitive and still haven’t quite figured it out.
In FS20 I used a combination of Sky Dolly and Nvidia Experience to kind of wicker together some kludgy videos that were similar to the tower and fly-by views of FSX.
Sadly, I feel like they have done just about all they intend to do, where that is concerned. I am close to just going back to Sky Dolly and Nvidia Experience.

I have managed to solve my: dxgi_error_device_hung (0x887a0006)

If anyone still struggle with this issue, try this:

  1. Update Graphics Drivers, force install again if they are already up to date.
  2. Let “in my case” Geforce Experience control and optimize Graphics Cards settings.
  3. Run: cleanmgr.exe and make sure to add DirectX Shader Cache
  4. Settings in MSFS according to attached screenshot:
    Disable:
  • Frame Generation
  • V-Sync
  • Dynamic Settings

These steps solved my MSFS and works perfectly. “So far so good”
Hope this can help atleast some of you.

I have been within a whisker of buying 2024 on multiple days now. Every time that I get close, I change my mind based on the lessons learned by so many good folks on here who have taken the time to really detail what they are going through. They have saved me because I now know that specific issues that would bother me, are still present after almost three months post-release. The FOMO is real with this one. Sometimes I just want to see what it looks like and do some VFR free flight but the fact is, they don’t deserve to be rewarded with my purchase. Just like you said, they were not upfront and honest about the state of the sim before releasing. They could have been and they would have had enormous leeway from the majority of users in that’s regard. Anyway, I am not saying anything that has not been said thousands of times here already, but I am thankful to all of those who have taken the time to find out and communicate what is wrong.

Be patience!

Maybe on the same time next year Asobo have fixed enough that the sim will be playable. It will be a hell of a job, because of the many bugs and imperfections they have to fix. Hopefully Asobo concentrate on the sim itself and not on bringing extra cosmetic upgrades.

Do not spend money buying FS2024. Send the message with our wallets. There may be a time to buy it in the future, but not now, or probably any time soon..

Please don’t encourage them with your money.

I was suffering from this.

But what I came to realize is what, exactly, would I be missing out on?

I can’t use most of my 2020 aircraft without running into something that isn’t quite right, really not right or not even able to be used at all.

So, what, I’m missing out on the 2024-specific aircraft? The graphics that are somewhat better? The opportunity to have reasons to come here and kvetch?

There’s issues with most of the 2024 aircraft I’ve tried. The graphics, while better, aren’t mind-blowing better, to me. The ATC is worse. The UI is quirky and has a fair amount of issues/bugs. It loads pretty fast, which is nice, but 2020 loads pretty fast for me as it is. Unless career mode or the photography challenges are desperately your thing, then there isn’t really anything so revolutionary that you’re missing out on — It’s still MSFS; you fly aircraft just like you’re doing in 2020 only you have fewer choices with which to do that in and you run into more annoying issues trying to do that.

Read this post on my thread:

Look at the lengths people are going to to simply fly VFR by avoiding using so many aspects of 2024 that simply work in 2020.

Truly, I do not see what you’re missing here other than to be a part of this ongoing drama playing out here on this forum. Unless that is your thing, keep waiting for it to come good.

This isn’t and wasn’t that kind of crisis. I work for a certain large online retailer. If I’m going on vacation, I 100% forget all the customers and don’t give them a thought until I’m back.

You have to expect a few bugs when something as complex as this program comes out
granted the launch was a full on cluster but that’s over and I for one am quite happy in the new edition, it’s smoother and I can fly at higher settings than the 2020 version
relax, they will fix the flaws over time
enjoy what’s in front of us now

I can understand your FOMO predicament. I do think there is an overwhelming bias towards the negative (with confirmatory bias) going on in here but it’s been the same with just about every single SU that came out for FS2020 too. Much of the frustration is justified, but much isn’t. I’m 100 hrs in with FS2024, and am enjoying it. I mainly use free flight so can’t speak of the bugs people are encountering in career mode for example, although I got as far as heli training and found I needed a workaround to get by one stage so bugs do exist there.

Depending on what you do with the sim, the thing you do need is mitigations. Had there been none, I’d probably be a frustrated fs2024 owner by now. But as things stand the mitigations make it work for me. The two main things you will encounter that are broken or working worse than fs2020 are AI traffic and ATC. Not sure how they managed it, but yes they are definitely worse. I mitigate that with using BATC and turning in game AI traffic & ATC OFF.

FS2024 is actually very nice at ground level so if you do lots of low VFR stuff or fly helis then you may be missing out, but if you fly airliners, you won’t be seeing much of that new detailed ground so it might be better sticking with fs2020 for now. FS2024 is really nice visually though. I don’t get why people think there isn’t much of a visual upgrade, it’s much better everywhere. Sometimes eye poppingly good.

What FS2024 does have is lots of bugs. Some aircraft have more bugs than others, some are relatively bug free seems to vary from developer to developer. Maybe they will get fixed, maybe they won’t. (but that is much the same as fs2020 in that regard though).

Main missing part is the marketplace. Right now, we can’t download anything locally, it is all streamed (or cached), which can be frustrating if scenery isn’t loaded in properly when say I try to land at a blurry runway. But for the most part it’s working (you learn to wait for say an aircraft to stream in before using it). Server access is better than it was in late Nov/early Dec. Maybe everyone having a strop & leaving FS2024 has helped that situation!

Yes, there are also some UI issues too, but for the most part I can get around the new UI and do what I need to do.

The new EFB is actually a quite good addition, with lots of future potential there. I use it a lot, just wish it would remember my settings between sessions.

I mainly do a mix of airliners but with helis and some GA vfr thrown in too, why not, it’s a nice environment to go explore. The base sim is quite stable for me too (5950/3090/64GB) I realise mileage may vary on other people’s hardware though, but some people with old hardware are finding FS2024 works well (better than FS2020) on their system.

Two months and 100hrs in and I’ve not been back to FS2020 yet.
