Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 General Feedback

Well I think, and this is a huge guess, that MS wants to have a “second line” LOD adjustment. Have you seen that, even if you max up everything, you still get a bad LOD and textures over a lot of areas with a much higher frequency than expected?

I assume that streaming everything actually gives MS/Asobo a LOD override. So, if they see that performance is bad for X percentage of users or anything they consider, they can reduce LOD at their discretion. In 2020, if you had bad performance was either on their side for a badly optimized code, or on user side because of low specs.

Basically, having everything streamed, opposed to having everything downloaded, allows them to tailor their experience to whatever they think is correct.

It’s a huge guess… But what Jorg said in the interview with Ubai about the release of the A350 did sound like that.

It only takes a few seconds sometimes. Mostly not even noticeable. I was right where you are when they were discussing the idea of it, but now that I’ve used it, it’s kind of nice.

You’re right.
When it works well.
But that’s not always the case unfortunately. Too often you get an issue with blurry textures thst haven’t loaded in properly or a stutter or two or a bad loading time at launch. Sometimes they’re not immersion killers. Other times they are…

You think they have someone sitting there monitoring everyone’s performance and pulling on a big “LOD” lever if it’s bad? :joy:

I mean yeah, something like this could be in place algorithmically I guess. It’s all very intransparent…

Today is the importan day, the weekly update will publish today the screenshot of the week. (Don´t expect SU1 though).

There is such a thing as load balancing you know…

You don’t say

That’s a bit different to the image that sentence (“at their discretion”) evoked though, which sounded like some dude doing it manually. I just thought it was a funny image.

All I know is that we are 3 months into release and I still can’t fly my 3rd party Boeing aircraft. I really want to start using my copy of MSFS 2024 but the waiting continues. A shame I don’t like Airbus.

Is the multiplayer working properly yet? When multiplayer works properly I’ll subscribe to GamePass again. Flying solo is no fun for me.

I really like the Husky, and it makes me super sad that this one was left behind.

Missing Asobo aircraft still that I have not been able for transfer over to my fs2024 community folder because they don’t exist in the fs2024 my library folder are the Asobo Dark Star, Asobo Husky, the Asobo dune copter and the asobo halo pelican

You have to wait until the opening of the Marketplace and see if they all come back in the 2024 version.

Tokashiki Helipad is misplaced by about 800-1,000m. The actual pad is clearly visible on the side of a small mountain on the island, whereas the Microsoft flight simulator designated helipad is in the middle of a rice field.

I’m super frustrated after a week of playing this game. So many bugs… I get the performance issues and so I won’t address those at all. I think they’re expected and will be fixed in time.

I just crashed my plane and I had the most expensive insurance… I played for about a week in my free time to get that plane, it was 320K after repairs.

Well today I crashed it by mistake and insurnace (The most expensive one) gave me 155K to repair the cessna. The repair cost is about 450K!!! I was suppossed to be reimbursed 80%!!!

The only reason this makes me so angry is i’m basically back to below starting level even though i’m level 80. I don’t have a functioning airplane but a 450K repair bill (delagate maint.) and only 150K cash from insurance. This is a tragic waste of time! I’ve spent countless hours to get that ■■■■ plane and I insured it with the best before i flew so this would not happen but it did anyway.

also another big one which has gotten me several times on the longer 3hr flights - TREES on the runway… yeah, trees. One airport was literally in the woods.

I want to play this career mode, it looks fun! but it’s so messed up I just can’t anymore until it’s fixed otherwise I’ll burn myself out. Uninstalling this game and I’ll keep an eye on forums for bug fixes. Updating my game review.

Slowly reaching this stage myself. It’s an interesting mode, but with so many bugs, workarounds and issues that it’s detrimental to my enjoyment. I’m only finding it works as intended on 20% of my missions. The other 80% is spent banging my head against a wall. Where’s the fun in that?
This morning in the 737, and I’m cleared to FL250 cruise and within 1000ft of it and ATC descends me to 6000ft (which I reluctantly did). Then 60 miles before destination tells me to climb back to FL250! Which would have seriously messed with ability to land. Probably would get marked down too because of these ATC issues.
I quit and gave up at this point. I’ve done that a fair bit of that in career mode recently.
I may park it for a while and see if anything changes. It has potential, but is too full of bugs and issues that remove any enjoyment out of the equation.

Of course, developers are so busy tuning each individual setup accordingly that they’re lagging bug fixing

I’m referring to the new LOD system that Jorg mentioned in the interview: “That’s why we made architectural changes in 2024, such as moving to a thin client model and reworking the way data is streamed. The new LOD system was also essential because performance had become unpredictable (…) We needed a way to ensure the sim remains playable for a broad range of hardware, including older PCs.”

Read “current XBox models as well”. An XBox refresh couldn’t come sooner. But then the discussion would shift to “why are older XBox model users being left behind!?” At some point, older hardware become a limiting factor on progress.

On the SU1 beta, multiplayer nametag range is 110 miles which is what it was in 2020. So multiplayer is working fine but there aren’t as many people using the 2024 beta as there are on 2020 so the skies are quieter

Understandable, but of course the side effect is what we’ve seen, horrible LOD even if you max it out.
